American's definitely get the better deal with free nights and weekends, but at the same time, the caller-pays system makes a lot more sense, considering how every other phone call works.

I think the key to a weblog is that it can take any form that you can imagine. You can have sites that are straight news and others that aren't. I've seen blogs where people post literary works and other "academic" endeavors.

My weblog, which I don't feel I need to mention (because its right under my username...), isn't about the high level thinking that this guy is on about. My blog is about hating guys like this, actually.

I mean, guys like this are blind academics. They just don't get that there's life outside of books and research. He sees something that isn't intellectual and immediately turns his nose up at it.

Don't get me wrong, I mean, smart people rock and all, but not everything has to be an intellectual pursuit. Sometimes Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll can really just be about Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll, you know?

Ahh... Oh well, the academic world hates me, and I hate the academic world.

The lock-out only happens on those cards, because they don't want people to buy an unlimited card, and then sell subway rides to people for 50 cents a pop (they'd just stand there and swipe you in). People were doing that. To stop them, they initiated the lock-out.

Regular set-dollar-amount cards won't behave in that way. Hell, I know I've made the mistake of entering the wrong platform. Its a pain in the ass, but if you just get a 10 dollar card or something, you can go right through a turnstile on the other side without waiting (or even swipe your friend in ahead of you).

As long as the signature can be verified to be yours in some manner (in the case of X, it usually requires a witness), then you legally signed it.

So, even if your documents all carry the name Joseph, you can go ahead and sign as Joe, and its still all good. Someone might not like it, but what the hell, I mean, its your signature, so they'll like it well enough.

Or... and maybe I'm just crazy or something... this one is a bit out there... You could go by Timothy on all of your official documents, you know, using your real name, and then use "Tim" as it was originally intended, a NICKNAME.

Tim, Bob, Matt, Bert, etc. are not real names, they are nicknames. When you tell someone you are Tim Jones, they are going to assume your name is Timothy. Bert is a little hairier, but the principal still stands, people assume it is short for something.

The best course of action is to not use your nickname on official documents. I mean, who's going to look at your bank statement other than you? Your financial advisor maybe, and they'll know to call you Tim if they want your business. How about your drivers license? The cops (who want your REAL name anyway), and maybe a bouncer at a bar. I mean, its trivial to use your real name on important stuff.

If you really want a credit card that says "Tim," then get an American Express (or ask Visa real nicelike), they'll put your REAL name in their records, and put your NICK name on your card.

Anyway. Maybe I'm the last sane person.
