I would have to say that the lethargically reacting Music industry will in fact win in the end through the use of copy protection technologies and the age old tactic of suing everyone in sight until their grandchildren bleed.
This seems like a neat way to generate electricity from the human body. An outfit made with panels of this stuff might produce enough current to do something useful? Neon blinking tattoos? Wearable computers with never ending or very augmented power supplies?
I would bet there is a direct correlation between companies that follow these kinds of practices and companies that tend towards failure. This seems like pure cowardice to me. Companies and employees owe each other both at least that kind of respect. Is two weeks or equivelant really too much to ask? I guess I'm just upset about people leaving without giving notice and being thrown into their projects on top of my own. Although, admitedly being fired without being told would be much worse.

In ten years will there really be a greatly distinguishable difference between TV and the web?
In ten years broadband will be taken for granted in millions of homes, and web access and television channels will be very interwoven, even the teleco's will be all mixed up. Dollar says this gets over turned.
If I run my microwave will my home LAN be disrupted? For that matter, can I use these thingers to make popcorn? Has anyone done a cost evaluation on making popcorn using my NIC instead of getting up to use the microwave? I'm just curious because running the microwave always interfered with my 2.4 GHz wavcoms.

If you are really serious about your coffee, I think you should get one of those industrial strength two gallon percolating coffee makers, like they have at some Churches. I was thinking about getting one for my developers, because I can just imagine the endless supply of caffine and code that would allow us to generate. On the other hand, I can't seem to get these guys to stay up for more than two or three days at a time, they start to drool and babble incoherently, worst of all they stop producing. I find that the threat of shock treatment will keep them going for about 8 hours after that. Actual shock treatment will keep them going for another 10 hours after that!
Once I installed the iron loops to the floor, and issued every employee shackles, my turnover rate dramatically decreased. Really though, if you're going to make someone sit in a chair for 60-80 hours a week, please get them something with a soft seat!

Good for them! Although, you know it would have been impressive to watch them burn up in atmosphere on the way back down. Of course this still leaves the question of what do you do with a satallite phone that is too big and too expensive for mere mortals to use.......well at least I'll know my tax dollars are being spent on something that's cool. ehhh.....no.
Ok, let's see here if there fine for copyright violation is $150,000 per offense. Using DVD-RAM and Divx, I can fit around 7 movies per disc if they are all aroun 650 megs, providing that they aren't too long. 7 * $150,000 = 1,050,000. That has to be some kind of record for fine efficiency when pirating! Plus I don't know if the fine for pirating movies is more than $150K or not. See!
$20 isn't really all that much to pay. Oh! My astute collegue points out that there is also some prison time included with such a sentence.
Not for inspiration. My LUG has always found it very enjoyable to have a guest speaker come and discuss high-tech products, software, or anything computer-related and everything linux, from PHP to Debian, to OS X. I think that it greatly enhances our meetings, and we always learn something new.

We have found that the number of CRT's and boxen
in our home will infact cause the breakers to flip
under any additional strain, such as using the vacum. Note: people using the ext2 filesystem
know why this causes such a ruckus. So, airconditioners, and things with large current drawing motors should be put on different circuits from the rest of the hardware!
Should we have some sort of standard or IEEE roadmap for planning new processor technology for the next 3 years or something? Course maybe I am just silly. But, it would be nice if I knew that my processor was going to last more than a year. Just a stray thought.

Of distributed file sharing. I never thought that things like gnutella would be torn apart by the internet community, instead of being legally hassled to death by the government(e.g. sued). Hmmm....to bad we can't excommunicate them.
I think that this may have occured because AW was already porting it to OS X at the request of Apple( and some grease money). It seems like once you had it ready to go with something of that nature, it wouldn't nearly be as much work to port it to linux also. So, in the future we should take notes to piggy back on OS X ports since a lot of the work that would have to be done would be similar.
How far away are we from making voice-recognition software that will allow us to have a computer mentor that teaches foreign language?....a teacher that has endless patience and insists on correct pronounciation and grammar. If we incorperated it into an OpenGL environment of somesort we could have language roll playing tutorials that allow someone to purchase a loaf of bread, milk, eggs and cigarettes in japanese. Total emmersion into the new language. Plus it would allow students to progress at their own pace.
Induction based smart chips will make it so the government can track you at all times and places, you walk through an electric field and the card sends back your serial number.This should make carding people unneccessary.
What if we used smart cards and readers. You can get a smart card reader for pretty cheap wholesale. You get the reader when you register, and the card is sent via snail mail to your house. Use the card for authentication, hence no dead voters that didn't register, and its cheaper than biometrics. I think that in bulk you can probably get cards for 0.50 or less and I bet readers for less than ten bucks. If you want to vote from home, just pay a small fee for that convienence. Or, the parties could pay for the readers and distribute them for free. Plus, then you could install readers in libraries, schools, and the home.
