So many Americans are clueless authoritarians that will go along with any claims from those in power, so it takes incontrovertible evidence to hold them accountable for their crimes against the American people.

    It's not holographic, and it's not VR, it's AR. The latest reviews have been terrible, saying MS reduced the field of view of the AR display to a little box in the middle of your vision. There's still hope they'll fix it based on this feedback, but as-is Hololens is DOA.

    Correct. Most of these "skeptics" are right-wing cranks fed their beliefs from wingnut blogs, hate radio, and Fox News. They're not only not scientists, they don't believe in any science that runs counter to right-wing dogma. At some point the Republicans put out so much disinformation that the party became a cult, totally disconnected from reality.

    Of course the huge difference is that progressives are concerned about real problems, and the ignorant conservatives are concerned about imaginary enemies and preserving superstition.     One nice phone is a lot more useful to one person than 3 crappy ones. The experience of using an S6 is much better than a $200 phone. The cheap phone will be annoyingly slow. Maybe you're OK with a crappy phone, but many of us want something less frustrating.

    These will look much better than current displays when in a head mounted display. Even a Samsung S6 has very visible pixels when used for VR. A 4K display would look a lot better. Phone-based VR is surprisingly good, even without Gear VR. With Gear VR it's even better.

    That depends on if you have to give the devices Internet access, because someone can potentially take over your whole network via a non-secure IOT device. This stuff needs to stay inside your firewall with no outside connection until manufacturers take security seriously. I don't care if someone messes with my light bulbs, I do care if they wipe my servers via an IOT exploit.

    This seems obvious. If it's possible for the robot to have sensors that can see in the smoke, giving the fire-fighter the sensor instead of adding the extra complexity of a guide-robot is an obviously better solution.

    We don't really need to get into genders to illustrate the problem. If the pilot is a less capable fighter than the crew member that's sitting in, an insane crew member can take down the plane. If the pilot is the better fighter, they can overpower the flight crew member. There's no way to make this perfectly safe, but the current door system is pretty good.

    There doesn't appear to be space for a 3rd person in many cockpits.

    Even if we had software fly our planes, a hacker could bring them down. Total safety from crazy people isn't possible.

    The technology is pretty well thought out, but clearly can't currently defend against an insane pilot.

    All they need to do is issue different codes to each member of the flight crew, and allow an override of the lock toggle if a certain number of flight-crew codes are entered into the access pad.

    Why would they replace the computers? You just restore from backup, or worst-case reinstall the OS from scratch, block Flash so they don't get reinfected, and you're done.
