    Why did you click

    http://www.animeworld.com/
    http://www.animecritic.com/
    http://www.abcb.com/

None of these sites has a number of reviews that's even close to the number of anime series/movies/films/whatever that exists today ... and none of them has reviews of fansubs, as far as I remember.

I don't know much about what you can get on DVD these days. Most of what I watch is downloaded from hotline servers anyway ;)

    My List of Great Anime:
Neon Genesis Evangelion - Come on!! THis on is the best!! =)
Gundam Wing - one of the many gundam series... not bad.
Record of Lodoss War - The best from Anime and Dragonlance. Haven't seen it yet, but my brother tells me it's the best he's ever seen!!!
Oh! My Goddess - A real love story. Five episodes. I really liked it! ...but that's just me.
Gun Smith Cats - Nice cars, nice guns, great action, cute girls, unoriginal plot ... but who cares ;).

Oh, and btw. Akira and Ghost in the Shell are both classics everyone should see one day. I still haven't seen them, but I will soon.

Unfortunately, most of the napster stuff is copyrighted and only sold in Japan and from expensive import websites.

Here are a few good links to sites that sells game soundtracks:
    Game Music Online
    SoundtrackCentral
    synSONIQ

I haven't bought anything yet, but I consider buying a few ablums from Game Music Online.

Before I knew about these sites or napster, I downloaded MANY game midi files from the web. Believe me, they sound great with SBlive! if you have the right soundfonts installed.
Videogame Music Acrhive - more than 10.000 midifiles I think, PC, SNES, NES, Genesis, Commodore 64 - you name it!.

I'm glad to see people like Minibosses do some game music and make some of it free. Can't wait to here it (I'm a big fan of the Metroid soundtrack!).

I like printed manuals the most. They're easier to use than any search tools (I'm talking manuals, not encyclopedieas), they're easier on the eyes than today's monitors and can be read even though the computer is turned on. They're can even be read without a computer nearby.

Hotline not only supports filesharing (TIP: Search ALL online servers for files at http://www.hotlinehq.com/), but also chat, messaging and news boards (like ICQ Active Lists in fact). If you are into warez, hotline also has it advantages which I won't talk about here ;). I get most of my stuff from Hotline servers nowadays.

Many people may just go out and buy themself a 3Dfx, TNT or G-Force because everyone else does. That's the brands that first comes to people's minds. This review will hopefully make them think of Matrox as and option before deciding.

  16. This news isn't for Slashdot readers! on Borland C++ Now Free-as-in-Beer · · Score: 1

This news isn't interesting for normal slashdos readers. This download is for windows users only and it's only the command line compiler tools with very little documentation and a few examples.

Actually, I think this release is for people who already has an (earlier) version of Borland C++ Builder. With this update, they can get the newest version of the c++ compiler without upgrading their C Builder Suite. It's like and free update, faster compiling (or whatever is better with version 5.5) without spending money on a newer product.

People without the BDE can of course also use this to compile programs and such, but except for the speed of the compiler and the size of the download (only 5-7 megabytes), you won't get anything DJGPP or any of the other c/c++ compilers for windows/dos has.

  17. Multi User Dungeon Bots (has been done) on Artificial Intelligence IRC Bots? · · Score: 1
Taken from this URL. Scroll down to Bots, or The Triumph of Mass Neotek, and you'll find this text followed with a few links:

Bots are external programs that connect to a mud server as if they were characters. Bots can pass messages and give interactive help. Some of them were so slick as to fool the unwary into believing they were talking to a real person. Most of the bot documents are logs from the bot point of view, and are therefore difficult to read.

They have a few hosted logs from the famous MUD bot 'Julia' and the older 'Gloria'. I think they were quite clever when they're made, but then again... MUDs aren't that complicated. Those are MUDs not MUSHs (which are more RPG like). Basically, the bots was able to answer simple questions and greetings, fighting monster, mapping areas and remember everything that was said to them.

Now, something that would be cool: An ICQ bot =) Adding people at random at asking them silly questions, hehe

Of course he knows what is meant by free software - most ./ readers does. But still there are people who could misunderstand what is meant. That wouldn't happen with a word for it. It doesn't limit ones ability to think, but it limits our ability to express us clear. Sometimes, we need a whole sentences... sometimes a word will do (like the new English word 'slahdoted' :)

Of course our ability to think isn't restricted by our language... our language just makes something harder if we don't have the right word. The same with programming language.

  21. Re:Gameboy Advance? on Cygnus Announces Game Boy Devel Environment · · Score: 1
Any ideas why the Gameboy did so much better than the technically better Atari Lynx (which had color like 8 years ago) and all the other handheld machines? It doesn't seem like any handheld has done that well besides the Gameboy.

    For many reasons.

First of all, the game boy had the best games. The original Super Mario Land, the classic Tetris, and many other games was far better than any of the games for the other systems.
Especially Zelda: Links Awakening rocked when it was released in 1995 and is still one of my favourite games (not only on the GB).

Another reason could be the price. I remember the Atari Lynx as a very expensive system. And compared to todays Game Boy Color it only had 16 (ugly) colors. And then it lagged good games.

Sega also released a handheld color system as far as I remember, but it ate the batteries quite fast and was also expensive. Beside of that, I think it was/did better than the Lynx. Some of the original Master System games was converted to it, as the two systems was nearly identical.

In other words, the game boy has always been the cheapest handheld system with the best games. Only the last four years has been a bit dull in my opinion. I miss the old Final Fantasy RPGs. And Nintendo should really do a sequel to Zelda =)

  23. I know such a community! on Are BBS-Like Communities Dead? · · Score: 1

I read through some of the answer and saw, that many of them pointed to different muds and web-based BBS games.

I've been playing Utopia for more than a year now, and I have at least 200 utopia people on my ICQ contact list, 30 bookmarks with pages about utopia and an okay reputation. The game itself is similar to Earth, and remember playing something like that back in the later 80 on a BBS.

The online game can be found here, and has more than 40K players at the moment. We have an official forum (plus 10 non-official with many posts every day), we have Active ICQ lists with hundreds of members (doesn't work with licq I'm afraid), we have quite a few big alliances (complete with ministers and leaders).

In other words, we have an community. Many things seems strange for outsiders. Ever heard of an landgrab for example? I meet new people every through this game, and our common interest for this game makes it easy to find something to talk about - a bit too easy perhaps.

That said, there are periods where I have to stay away a bit from this game... It's time consuming if you're into many alliances and such. But overall, I think it's great.

Did I mention that the author (Mehul Patel) made the first BBS game where many BBSs was linked into one game? He tells a bit about in in this Interview.

  24. Not good enough... on MP3/MD Combo Player · · Score: 1

Minidiscs are just as good without mp3-support.

The sound quality on the minidisc isn't more cd-quality than the quality of mp3s. Why store mp3s on a minidisc, when you can store music on it the normal way?

Storing mp3s on a minidisc instead of regular music doesn't gain you anything. You can't have more music on a minidisc just because you choose to store it in mp3 - and the quality doesn't get better either.

The only thing that would make that part more atractive would be if they increased the amount of data that can be stored on the discs...

The voice-thing does sound cool though ;)
