Having this information crawled and therefore easily available to a world-wide audience makes me nervous.

ummm. Pretty much all the carriers already make this information available from their own websites. Google is just consolidating it in one place. So if you know enough about the package to know the tracking number, you would also know which carrier and so could obtain the same information anyway (eg: by calling them on the phone) So just by consolidating it Google is not increasing the risk in any meaningful way.

Also, just because you did not know this information was not available does not mean it was not widely know.

but Mozilla is still the better browser

I agree with this. I like the way Moz will popup a dialog listing all my user/passwords for a page and I can select one. In firefox, much like IE, I have to go the password and then hit down arrow or something to make it appear. Also, the options in Mozilla are more consistent and it is easier to customize. I guess I don't completely agree that having most options only configurable from about:config makes the browser more user friendly.

The only two things of FireFox that tempt me are 1) being able to easily uninstall extensions
    2) Sage only works in firefox

And the same with Privoxy which is cross-platform and uses Perl compatible regexp rather than a custom language.
I do think that Proxomitron has a larger following though and might be a bit more flexible.
Also note that Proxomitron is no longer being actively developed since it was not open source and the developer tragically passed away. There is however a new open source project Proximodo which is trying to re-implement the functionality and claims to be cross-platform.

I use Privoxy along with a "hosts" file and I hardly see any ads (popup or embedded).

development on next version of WhiteBoxLinux continues. The link you posted is to a site run by one developer who decided to switch projects. I am not sure how many people are involved with Whitebox, but there sure seems to be enough activity there. Guess I should just ask on their mailing list about what's happending and difference between WhiteBox and CentOS.

I used this feature while signing up for a couple of mailing list. However, there is an issue with posting to mailing lists. If I subscribe as data64+listname@gmail.com, then when I do post to the list from gmail, the "from" address is just data64@gmail.com so the listserv thinks I am not a subscriber to the list and it gets shunted off to morderator land. I can only change the "reply-to" address in the settings not the "from" address. :(
