The Japanese economy is quite sad. A (w)hole nation of Enrons. They only hope that the can let the hot air out slowly, and that it doesn't burst.
The trend of the 80's for American companies to bring in Japanese consultants has been reversed. Japanese corporations are now bringing in American consultants to show them how to emulate American prosperity.
Nobody cares. Most programmers don't care if it runs on your RISC box. They have written code that is usefull to them. If you can use it, fantastic. If not than keep your mouth shut.
Compaq Proliants were the best x86 servers out there. Advanced diagnostics, excellent 64bit pci support, fantastic RAID, terrific redundancy, pain free hot swap capabilities, and a pretty decent SAN sollution.
I have installed countless proliant servers and they are very high quality boxes.
Some of us were smart/lucky two or three years ago and decided to go back to get our masters and phds.
If you are a consultant or in house IT staff, than in all actuality you are just another laborer. The premium that a geek could recieve from the market has been going down down down. For example look at the article Cisco qualifications ain't what they used to be . The average CCIE salary went down 21% last year. Geeks are now just the loser guy that fixes the damn computer.
Face it, the issue is that all of the hype was hype, not that there were mergers. Fancy fones, wireless apps, and high bandwith conectivity are a luxury that most people and companies do not need, especialy when times are tough.
Hopefully this will lead to EVEN MORE CONSOLIDATION, which is exactly what this industry needs.
The ISP's still have to pay for their bandwith. There just aren't enough people who want high speed connections to justify the capital expenditures necessary to drive the cost of bandwith down.
Not in any city I've ever lived in. Cable cos are regulated at the local level. Go to your local public utility commission hearing and complain. Have you ever been to one of these hearings, or do you just like to whine on a message board?
I just wish the Earth would have a Born On Date like fine beers do.
If they aren't earning their keep than they should be let go. Laying off workers allows them to bee freed up for more productive work.
Just continual refinement, ie. miniturization?

Remember the original query concerned low cost options, something most small colleges have no understanding of.
Most large public universities have pitifull undergrad math programs because the classes are taught by foreign grad students.

Both believed it was an impediment to innovation.
Fabulous troll.

It really is time for the community to put more pressure on Linus to adopt this.
IE will be losing a significant amount of market share very soon
Bookmarked.
Care to bet on this?

Inferior products did. How could supporting a third API doom the company? How could the parent be modded up as insightful?
And not differentiation?
Remembering formulas is pointless. Being able to apply the formulas is the goal.
Real men use HP.
My 48SX is 10 years old and still kicks ass.

You don't have a right to live in the boonies and expect everyone else to foot the bill for all of your modern conveniences.
Can't anything be done to fix it?
It's a tried and true methodology.
I got one right here baby!
