You're absolutely right about having to be logged on for people to think you're there, especially if you're buried deep within the cubicle system.
However I think having IM actually prevents people from bothering you with a phone call, or coming to your cube in the event of a problem. Plus if your job revolves around your computer, then you can just minimize that window and make them wait 30 seconds for your response while you're doing your job.
That use Lotus for E-Mail get Sametime (and AIM-clone sans AIM features plus intranet features) bundled with it. We use it at my computer for instant messenging, which is just more convenient than e-mail for simple discussions.
As well, according to some people on VersionTracker, this Office update doesn't truly support Exchange:
"like IMAP, SMTP, WebDAV and LDAP - so no real Exchange support! I think it clearly shows how they think about their own standards! And if our Exchange Server 5.5 would [have] them all enabled, then I wouldn't really need Entourage at all!"
Couldn't this have been done _before_ so many people lost their money/got expelled. Do we really need to make so much noise before they make things happen?

This doesn't have to do with a PowerBook (though I own one now), I still think it applies.
First off, your PB will come with one year of AppleCare. That extra charge is for 2 more years. That rule applies to all Apple hardware.
I bought my PowerMac and didn't purchase the extended AppleCare. One month before the warranty expired, my CPU's got fried. So I took it to the store, replaced them for free, and gave me a receipt.
Apprarently, with parts and labor this came out to an over $800 repair. I immediately purchased two more years of AppleCare.
BTW you can purchase it anytime during that first year. You dont have to buy it with the computer.
But anyways, I figured if Apple is going to charge that much to do repairs, you're better off paying a couple of hundred dollars than eight, especially considering repairs to portables are probably more expensive.
I don't recall Apple ever advertising on-the-fly playlists as a feature for the old iPod. They didn't even talk about it until the new iPod came out.
The on-the-fly playlists and new games are features that are part of the new iPod only, and I'm pretty sure they'll never be added to the old iPod. That's just how it is.
Actually, OS X runs on my old 233 MHz G3 tower, which came out around a year before the iMac, which was Apple's first USB equipped Mac.
However, this computer does have a USB card in it.
Kazaa Lite now claims to block IP address from the RIAA and other known anti-p2p companies. And the feature is left on by default, so maybe the Kazaa-Lite users aren't in as much hot water as the Kazaa users.

The OS X installer isn't particularly smart about checking system requirements other than saying "You need n version of OS X".
This person very well could have used the install CDs that came with a G5.
The MacOS 10.2.6 update is a lot older than 2 weeks.
However, you're right in the sense that these updates don't actually require a restart. They are just doing it "to be sure".
Don't the Japanese buy way more video games than Americans?

Not true. As long as a computer isn't set to automatically sync and iPod (where you manually add files), you can play the songs on any computer.
When I bought my PowerBook, I plugged the iPod in and all the songs were playable.

In the US you have the option of either shipping your Mac to Apple, taking it to an Apple store, or an authorized Apple reseller.
