I'm guessing you're not from the U.S. (or France, apparently), but people are pretty ruthless here if you're "different." Homosexuals are regularly committing suicide for being tormented. We also have 4chan.
My mother works at a nursing home where some of the "adult" staff make fun of and harass the mentally challenge volunteers. My mother tells them to basically fuck off and grow up, and they just laugh at her because they think it's funny.
I'm not sure why we're so insecure. We pretty much do whatever the fuck we want.
Pre-ordered on 11th July for expected shipping on 19th July, however I received a couple of emails earlier advising 'payment processed' @ 16:20 followed by 'order shipped' so it should arrive in the morning - almost a week before due.
Hmmm, they never gave me an expected shipping date, nor any information about the current status. It has just said "order received" since July 28th. wtf is this, is it because Isle of Man is closer to China?
Apparently, to Google, "pre-order" means you're the last person to get one. They're supposed to hit retail stores today and they're already on eBay. Meanwhile, I check my "Google Wallet" account and it just says that Google "received my order" since June 28th. No updates, no shipping information, no reply to my e-mail, nothing.
The very least they could do is provide some damn communication on why they're shitting on their pre-order customers.
If the Nexus 10 ever becomes a reality, don't "pre-order" it! You'll get it sooner from Gamestop apparently. Fuckers!
Wow. My July 2008 was ID'd correctly - and runs Lion well, too. (4GB RAM)
I have 4 GB RAM also, and it's a 2.5 GHz model. It was annoyingly sluggish when I tried Lion, but perhaps my expectations are high - I'm running Snow Leopard on this thing right now, and I think that it could definitely be faster. And yes, reloading helps but I would still like to see it more responsive. I have zero patience.
Not a big deal. Lion runs like shit on my silver-keyboard MBP, so I'm guessing Mountain Lion would be even worse, but I was curious since I bought mine used.
You'd think it would at least assume that it was built in China because, well, they all are.:P
That's a good point. It seems to me RIM would have been a much better fit for Windows Pwn than Nokia is.
Buy RIM, fire everyone, sell RIM-style keyboard phones with WP on it to existing customer base branded as Microsoft BlackBerry, which will be pleasing because it integrates nicely with all the other Windows bullshit they already have (says the salesman).
With Nokia, Microsoft just made a shitty company shittier*. With RIM, the scam might actually be believable.
*Note to Nokia fanboys: Nokia phones suck. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you can heal.
Now, my computer at home is faster and more pleasing to use than my POS at work.
In every job I've worked, my work computer was always much slower than my machine at home (except when I worked for the government, they would always buy me the caviar shit since it wasn't their money anyway).
There was one exception. I worked for a very progressive company that bought me an overpriced office chair of the gods because I was having back pain (way better than my chairs at home). I wish I could have taken that chair with me when I left. I'm sure they paid more for it than the PC on my desk. I felt like the villain from Inspector Gadget (minus the cat) sitting in that thing coding all day.
Their use of SEO not-withstanding, judging articles by the number of comments generated is kind of like judging the performance of a car engine based on how load the stereo gets.
Controversial topics will get many more comments than topics about boring stuff. Hell, comments with horrible grammer andd skeling mystakes will get more comments than the actual story.
And yes, I realize the irony of posting this in the comments section of Slashdot.;-)
...and the irony of the skelling mistakes in a rant on bad grammar and spelling.
I don't think that he is oblivious to the irony given the specific placement of said errors.
Also, with all the Macs and iPhones, Safari should be higher.
I'd imagine that people are far less likely to visit a web site about web dev on their phone than they are on a desktop/laptop where they would more likely be trying to use such information.
I thought Windows NT was great. It was the first (relatively) stable version of Windows. It was reasonably light weight (for what it was), wasn't terribly bloated, and got the job done. Take me back 15 years and I'd gladly run NT 4 over Windows 95/98!
Device support was shit (omg, who needs *sound* anyway?!), but once you got that worked out, she was a champ.
Good for you - you're obviously in that 5 or 6% who have phones that receive updates (or are able to be trivially updated). The vast majority of Android users are not like you, as shown by the stats.
It seems like a good reason to buy Google-branded devices. More likely to get updates, since they're more likely to want you to run the latest version?? (ie, more potential Play sales)
I can see kids liking it because they like stupid things, but I can't imagine many adults wanting their television viewing experience to be as awful as Facebook. Perhaps I'm just not with the times, and that's fine with me.

God americans are stupid if they still go for this marketing trick.
Flamebait is +5 Insightful.
Fuck America!
with many places starting to not accept credit cards.
Really? That seems like a good way for the business to lose a lot of sales.

Hmm, I ran the program but it wasn't terribly helpful...

Who wants to come work for my IT managed services company?
Me.

Hell, even if you give it away for free they'll still pirate it (if that makes sense).
Free as in beer, or free as in speech? Big difference, which is why I think a lot of folks pirate.

I hear SCO makes a solid UNIX product as well.
I pre-ordered a Nexus 7 for my wife as well. I am impatiently holding out for the Nexus 10 for myself. I really hope this doesn't delay it!
Yeah, I owned a few Nokia phones in the 90s. Good stuff. :P
Don't forget "I'd Hit It" and "It's A Trap!"...

Raise your hand if you want "social media" mixed with your TV watching experience. *crickets*
Facebook wall activity: "Charles is watching Gilmore Girls on CWTV."
so it is really competing with the $99 Apple TV not the $399 iPad.
Or a $49-$99 Roku.
they could not be guaranteed to be safe from tampering [...] and they could not produce a printout so that votes/results could be double-checked.
Well, whose dumbass idea was it to leave that out of the spec? This is voting we're talking about. It's ALWAYS scrutinized.
So you're saying that I should care? What do you suggest I do? Vote with my dollars? I've already done that.
Maybe write a strongly worded letter to Redmond? Maybe rage on forums about it until Microsoft folds?
I'm open to ideas.
That's neat, wtf does that have to do with Microsoft telling me where I'm allowed to visit? fsf.org works just fine on my MBP.
