    Frankly, the idea that it wasn't accidental is ludicrous, I would doubt very highly that MS has humans categorising sites, instead it's probably all automated based on roughly the same tech as email spam filters.

    I've known some Blackberry fanboys semi-recently, but when was the last time you've ever seen someone with a Nokia phone? I feel like it's been a decade since I have. Does anybody really want one?

    I dunno, maybe they're popular with the "free with new activation" crowd? Or maybe old people who only want to use it as a phone?

    Besides... barrel rifling already makes a fingerprint-like marking on the shell/slug/bullet, and that's going to be a hell of a lot more useful in identifying the gun it was shot from than any other method thought up so far...

    Well, that's useful for proving whether a bullet was fired from a particular gun. What if you don't have the gun? Look at the serial number on the bullet, find out who purchased it, and follow the trail...

    I'm not saying I agree with these laws (I don't, because I think that government tracking such things has a history of abuse and miscarriage of justice), but surely you see a perceived benefit to law enforcement over just having some lands and grooves?

    Nearly all people don't give a rip about Slashdot pundits. They buy a PC at Best Buy or Dell.com's "For Home" section and it comes with Windows. Done deal.

    I'm a Linux advocate, but come on! To suggest that Uncle Larry will switch to Linux because she doesn't like the tile interface is absurd!

    They are not dumb. They are victims of an virulently infectious and devastating mental illness (faith). They can't really help it and they should not be insulted for it any more than a kid with polio should be insulted about being in a wheel chair.

    I don't know about that. I was raised Catholic, attended Sunday school, etc. I made up my own mind a long time ago that it was all rubbish. The fact that they attempted to brainwash me didn't stop me from asking questions.

Well, they could still use the physical media to delivery the bulky parts of the game, but still require an internet connection to authenticate your product key, which could be non-transferrable. Make it so once you register the game under your online account, that key can only be played by that account. You could sell your account with each game, but that could be very problematic and annoying.

    Facebook games like to do this now. Once you register your character under a specific Facebook account, you can't sell the account because it is bound to your Facebook ID. Of course, people create lots of face Facebook IDs, but it's hard to say how convenient this would be on an online gaming environment (which may be linked to your console serial, and may also be annoying to have multiple accounts to log into for the various games you play).

    It's all evil.

    What's been causing the fall of Bittorrent as a share of internet bandwidth in the US is the rise of legal streaming sites (Netflix, Hulu, etc), alternatives which don't exist in most of the rest of the world.

    Furthermore, I'm sick and tired of subscribing to things. Sure, maybe it's only $2 a month for your favorite local news. And it's $5 a month for your favorite game. Netflix is $8 per month. Flikr is $2 per month. Hulu Plus is $8 per month, but soon they want to require that you have a cable TV subscription, so that will be another $50 per month or whatever.

    This shit really adds up! If I'm paying all this money, I sure as SHIT better not see one god damn commercial or product interruption. Oh wait, they already do that for television too.
