The only real problem here is that users had to buy the $150 device to start. Those users bought the device based upon the promise of unlimited data, and now, 2 months later, the device is useless to those users. That is dangerously close to fraud, and those users who only bought the device and signed up for the monthly plan for the unlimited data absolutely have standing to sue. If the company were smart they would offer $150 refunds all around to avoid legal fees.

Do the math. 2 days.

The key is still not in software. The key is stored in hardware, and half of it is stored in the country so any other phone would not work. The only way to copy it would be to create exact copies of both chips, and there is no way to do that, unless you can read the keys from the Silicon with an electronic microscope -- and most reports indicate that wouldn't work because the chips are tamper proof and opening them up would cause damage to the Silicon - think exposing film to light.

The FBI has acknowledged they are not asking for it to be decrypted. They are asking for Apple to remove the auto wipe after 10 function, and provide an input for the FBI to enter pass codes electronically to brute force it. Being the 5c, last model before the secure enclave hardware was implemented, there is only an 80ms hardware delay between tries. 6 digits gets cracked in under 2 days.

Wrong. Or, to clarify - I dare say anyone remotely capable of following the instructions and/or having any inclination to do so would most likely already have an amateur radio license from the FCC, which is an exemption to the "no-scanner-while-driving" laws in every state. I'm in Minnesota and I've been questioned about it once, while I was being testy and intentionally letting the cop hear that I had my radio tuned to his frequency as he called in my DL. He didn't know the law either but I handed him a printout of the MN statute with the exemption along with my FCC license, and he just scoffed and said get out of here. Before he left I let him know "FYI this radio is monitored for transmit out of band as well, which is also not illegal to possess, and I can use it to talk to on your frequency In an absolute emergency just as I could use your radio if something happened to you. I have that case law as well if you would like to see it." Second part didn't go over so well but only cost me another half hour of so.

No, you can't shoot people for simple trespassing. TX is the one state which allows you to use deadly force to protect YOUR property on your land. But you must have a reasonable belief that they are trespassing to damage or steal your property, or of course to harm you. The reason so many are misinformed on this, such as you, is that there is case precedent which basically says you can assume they are there to harm you or your property IF THEY TRESPASS UNDER COVER OF DARKNESS so you do not know their intentions. That only applies at night, and in no way would justify shooting someone who simply walked onto your property during the day, without fabricating more of a story. Go read up before you spread misinformation that can be deadly.

What if the cost WAS incurred solely by the government? For example, we have many senators and congressmen that can, as part of their official duties, submit FOIA requests and pay for them with the public money allotted to them for such routine fees as part of doing their normal research into situations in their representative districts. I suggest every senator and rep do this for any cases deemed important in their districts. Wallah, it's all paid for by the government. Yes I know that means we all foot the bill indirectly, but it would eliminate the competition factor between news agencies. After all, there really aren't that many cases that we are all really interested in. I'd guess less than one per house district (435) on average.

I don't see how it implies that they have cancelled once already. It implies they want to not get the same driver, so they dont have to cancel FOR THE FIRST TIME. It is pretty clear they just want to book a ride, try to recruit them, then get a different driver so they don't have to cancel FOR THE FIRST TIME on that driver, and they are told to take reasonable steps (the only steps they can take, really) to avoid ever having to cancel a ride. The alternative would be that after their ride they could just rate their driver 2 stars - with lyft if you rate a driver 3 stars or lower you will never be paired with them again - however THAT could be considered actual sabotage, so they aren't doing that.

  20. Re:Illegal on Uber Has a Playbook For Sabotaging Lyft, Says Report · · Score: -1

To all of you claiming this is blatant harm via fraud, it's not, and Uber has protected itself from this. They made it clear in their instructions that their goal is NOT to order and then cancel rides, and instruct the consultants to take steps to avoid this, because it actually hurts them as well because they are more likely to get caught by cancelling rides. So the cancelled rides are just an unfortunate byproduct that they are trying to AVOID. Thus they have absolved themselves of any potential litigation. From their instructions to their drivers (http://www.theverge.com/2014/8/26/6067663/this-is-ubers-playbook-for-sabotaging-lyft): "b. Wait a period of time before you request so you do not have to cancel on the same driver if you get them again i. Big Markets you can wait 5 minutes or less ii. Newer or small markets 5-10 minutes - Watch the app iii. Use your "Street Smarts" c. Go to another area to request your next trip"
