  1. What keeps graspee on Windows ? on What's Keeping You On Windows? · · Score: 1

I was managing to cut the list of reasons to keep Windows down, and had got it down to:

    a) the occasional game
    b) my digital camera
    c) the occasional app which needs Windows (some obscure subtitle converter or something like that).
    d) Many Faces of Go (which is a lot better than GnuGo - yeah I know it's expensive but I like it).

Then unfortunately I bought a DVD burner and it's not supported by FreeBSD, so that's pushed me up to 5 reasons.

In fact I have one computer running Linux because my printer is supported by Linux but not FreeBSD. I suppose I could nix (ha ha) the Linux and put the printer on the Windows machine, but that seems so wrong.

You may have guessed that I'm a rabid FreeBSD fanboy. Oh well, at least I don't try to ram it down anyone's throat.

USE FREEBSD NOW! IT'S SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN LINUX!

    Oops.

I for example, with my vast collection of semi-ancient machines have a PC dedicated to p2p, another for playing games, another for recording CDs etc.

The Tom Baker version of Shada, i.e. the original and proper version of Shada was never completed due to a strike at the BBC. Way back whenever the BBC did the post-production on the unfinished scenes and got Tom Baker to do some new segments where he stands in a Dr. Who museum and narrates what happens in some scene that is missing.

They then released this version of Shada as a boxed set with the script.

I admire any new Who stuff they do, or rather I admire the effort, but nothing will ever be able to match the on-screen chemistry between Tom Baker and the sexy sexy super-sexy Ms. Ward.

In particular there is a scene at Prof. Chronotis' where the Prof., Romana and the Doctor are talking about Galifreyan stuff, and it just rocks. I think some of it is ad-libbed.

In the universe I've been living in, Dragon's Lair was an expensive to play, hardly any interactivity game where it was too easy to die.

And I didn't say that cel-shaded games were better- I said they were more interesting to me.

Dragon's Lair sucked. It was at the forefront of the "Let's turn videogames into total eye-candy with extremely limited interactivity" movement, which thankfully didn't take off.

I like Don Bluth's work on the big screen, but the way to get cinematic graphics in a game is not by just pre-rendering/drawing them like all those laserdisc games did, then allowing a branching path through the story, but by improving 3d computer graphics to the point where they look as good as real-life/traditional animation.

More interesting to me is the (fairly) recent innovation where traditional 3d graphics are used, but they are shaded and textured to look like cartoons/anime, e.g. Fear Effect, various Simpsons and Disney games.

Dude, like I said, they're "slightly more obscure".

The pattern of obscurity would probably go something like:

    a) shown on cartoon network or similar- tie-in products available in the west.
    b) available on dvd in the west, but only in dubbed form
    c) available to buy on ebay etc because there are HK (Hong Kong) DVDs of it- but with bad subs.
    d) only available on video or dvd in japan- has a small following, very obscure material, no fansubber likes it so it has never been subbed for the English-speaking market.

If you like Ed in Cowboy Bebop then you will like the title character in NieA Under 7.

If you like Tenshi, you will probably like Love Hina and Happy Lesson TV.

If you like Oh My Goddess, you will probably like Chobits.

If you like anime with lots of fighting action then take a look at Beserk, Noir, Scryed, Hellsing.

Other good romantic comedy animes are: Onegai Teacher, I my me Strawberry Eggs, Ai Yori Aoshi, Hanaukyo Maids.
