    I'm one of the working poor - I make over 30k (so I don't qualify for government assistance) but under 35k.

    I do have a PS3 and an Xbox, but I bought them back when things were a bit better. My TV set however is a 20" that hasn't been updated in 10 years :/ and won't be anytime soon.

    It isn't very much fun lifestyle - seeing the last harry potter movie actually put me in debt.

    No, but giving away what other companies must charge for could be described that way.

    Apple doesn't charge anyone for iOS - they ship it for free to the consumer. Likewise Microsoft doesn't charge consumers either - the only company paying licensing fees are the handset manufacturers - and I have a feeling that Microsoft is desperate enough that there is probably some profit sharing agreement in place so the handset people pay nothing or close to nothing.

    What would you do if you were Google?

    Really? I work for a state and my direct report isn't some rabid flag toting "tax payer" shouting "cut get your gubmit hands off my medi-care" it's just some guy.

    How is a publicly funded corporation any different than a publicly traded company?

    Further, China buys US treasuries to keep their currency valuation down so that they can continue to be the low-cost contract manufacturer to the world. Without keeping their currency low, the strength of their economy would push their currency higher, making them uncompetitive as exporters and pretty much derailing the vast majority of their economy.

    They also buy bonds to stabilize our economy so we'll keep buying.

    The first versions of OS/2 didn't have a UI - that came out in 1.1.

    OS/2 to me was very much dos like - especially from the command line. Same commands, same config files, a lot of the same syntax.

    Seriously? I had a Mac Plus - someone who purchased opted not to have a hdd or more than 512 megabytes of ram and the machine was a serious PITA to use. My Dell Core i5 is a dream :).

    Swapping floppies reminds me of those videos of a swichboard operator trying to connect a call.

    I wonder if the engineers who work on atomic weapons think the same thing?

    I like blowing stuff up as much as the next guy, but deep down inside I know that those kinds of weapons are ultimately used for mutually assured destruction and potentially killing millions of people in a few minutes.

    Yes I know I just compared financial meltdown to nuclear war, but don't kid yourself - financial distress does kill people (I have a direct example in my very own family) - and the fact that these criminals have the money to construct custom super computers really irritates me for some reason.

    Yes enterprises are time wasters - support probably spends 10x more time on them than anyone else, but often what people like at home they want at work and visa versa.

    You did something wrong, then. I bought the $6 Mini DisplayPort to VGA adaptor off of monoprice. It drives VGA monitors, projectors, and scan converters just fine on my MacBook Pro. I've had no problems with the $30 official apple adaptors I've used, either.

    He bought the adapter from Apple - what do you expect to happen?

    I live in the USA and I'm a union employee. On my paycheck stub if you throw taxes and what I pay to Providence for healthcare (which is really a corporate tax at this point) it's a full 30% of my monthly pay. Most months I make about 2000 dollars.

    I don't think taxes are that high in the UK.

    Sounds like Google without the cloud computing. My Android phone just works and is real time and syncs with all my devices no matter what the OS they are running is.

    I was working technical support for a small software company in Oregon and I had a knack for selling some of the more complex (and expensive) features in our apps. One day I asked for part of that commission and the sales guy got really pissed. Well that was the last call I ever helped their entire dept with.

    I too remember when removing malware on the PC was as simple as going into Add/Remove Programs and clicking uninstall...
