Used to rip music on this Amiga by loading the game (or demo or whatever) warm boot the machine to a shell and dump the contents of memory to disk and look for the appropriate headers.
You could do the same thing on a pc really - just warm boot the pc and don't initialize the ram.
How do you know? I mean - what if a malware vendor wanted to start publishing cracks under the name "reloaded"? Also none of these cracks are documented anywhere (ie - here's what we did to disable the cd check). For all you know when you install one of these its installing spyware, key loggers, viruses whatever - under any name they like.
Commercial software vendors owe it to their customers to do due diligence in every bit of code they ship. Shipping a crack from a 3rd party violates every release rule out there.
My biggest concern is did Ubi QA the "patch" how do they know there's no secret code in there to log keys, install virus or cause the game to crash in odd places.
Like the video shows - what stops him (or her) from just cutting the bracelet off?
Also - when the airline crew stand up to subdue the passenger - how do they selectively do this and not shock anyone around him or her? I've seen pilot's carry plane tickets as well - are they wearing these?
Your typing that message on a lot of closed hardware in that regard. You're CPU (if its AMD/Intel/IBM) is under the same circumstances, same with your video card, and memory. In fact there's no open specs for any of that stuff...
Not only are slashdotters not reading the article, but apparently they aren't even reading the summary:
Today Adobe systems made an announcement that it has provided technology and information to Google and Yahoo! to help the two search engine rivals index Shockwave Flash (SWF) file formats.
You probably talked to someone in some outsourcing company. Back when I did this (worked at Stream) when people asked for our "employee number" we just gave them our extension or made something up.
Emails like this from executives, product managers, engineering managers are not all that uncommon - it doesn't mean they are going to quit using product x - its probably more a plea for whatever group owns the product being complained about to wake up and fix whats wrong.
Honestly if people don't write emails like this (whether customers or internal people) things sometimes go un-noticed.
If its their software project why not? If sourceforge doesn't like it they could always tell Notepad++ to take a hike as well. Unlike China is a free country:).
Its probably an unforeseen side effect of moving all manufacturing to China and Taiwan.
Seems like when I was a kid there was more interest in programming these kinds of machines because for a long time thats what you had to do to make them do anything.
I'm sure if you're married you have the opportunity to pick up your partners phone pretty easily to install stuff on it. I leave my phone in the key cup by my front door - sure its not out of sight, but I don't carry my phone to the bathroom at home:).
Well what I mean is that its easy to write software and drivers to interact with the ipod. For instance you can manage one with Linux. This is a very well documented interface - even though it wasn't documented by apple.
Plus there's the difference that the ipod is supposed to play music/movies and thats it - where as the iphone is really a pda with a phone attached. Its easy to argue thats there's far more interest in developing apps for the iphone over the ipod.
I would honestly say they do - have you called tech support lately?
This case is a sad commentary on the industry as a whole more than anything because I can think of several companies that engage in the practices complained about by the NY DA - especially concerning support.
Vista uses heuristics to determine if the exe is an installer for non vista aware installers to *prompt* for elevation. If your too dumb to ignore Windows warning that you shouldn't allow elevation unless you trust this application how is this microsoft's fault?
Also its not all that different than doing sudo or the Mac elevation prompt.

As a rider - safety is a primary concern. You should be doing everything you can to avoid accidents - including avoiding or watching out for drivers committing moving violations.
Safety includes wearing safe clothes (helmet, jacket and riding pants - also riding boots and gloves), and making sure all the safety features on my bike work before heading out.
I know its not the safest way to travel, but there's a lot you can do to mitigate that risk.
Well one cost (which I'm sure they aren't even thinking about) is the customers who will actually call Apple for support. I know you think most people have enough shame not to, but trust me they don't.
When I did software support the number of people calling about overly discounted copies of our apps from those "cd backup" sites was insane - all demanding support for a 1000 dollar app they paid 40$ for - and yes even turning them away cost us money and time and it probably dirtied the companies image at the same time.
Yeah and in the US they were made by Pratt and Whitney not Boeing.

I know its fun to be a fanboy etc - if its not linux its not open right?
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/swf/
Also all the api's for flash are publicly documented on the same site.

Flash is an open standard - whats not documented about it?

Seriously - the vhs home movies my dad made in the early 80's (back when this bleeding edge stuff) still works.
Or what about digital vhs?
Its probably an unforeseen side effect of moving all manufacturing to China and Taiwan.

The thing about WoW is its probably the most polished mmo I've ever played - even ones that have had a long time to mature (like EQ or Lineage).

One big difference though is the ipod is an open platform - the iphone isn't.
Maybe - I don't think 45 million is enough to build a maglev from Anahiem to Las Vegas.
One of the reasons the Seattle monorail project was shut down was because before construction it was revealed to cost 1 billion per mile...
I don't think monorails are all that cheap.

I thought it was funny, mellow out.

Lol - thats actually a major problem with WoW - the one true spec for your class for that particular dungeon. It blows hard :(.
