This is so beautiful. There is something esoteric about this kind of art. Like the ascimation it makes me want to toss a coin or two their way for making life seem just that more sureal.
I wish there was a way to tip him a few bucks. I'll send a card, but there should be a web service for this.
I would like to be able to subscribe to posters. The few folks that I always want to see what they have to say would have a 5 from my account. It would also be nice to kill file posters. If I could do this from my account it would make moderation work that much better for me.
If you displayed this information as some kind of aggregate, the number of people subscribed to an account and the subscribers total karma... it would make for an interesting stat.
Sure signal 11 is a karma whore, but how many cool people like is posts anyway?

Sheesh, there ya don't go. This is just the attitude I'd expect from one of those even numbered people.
Ha. There are more important things than money. That's not how the world has been made to work, I know that. It's why I have the respect for Linus and what he has done. He is still working on Linux and even managed to get a "real" job that doesn't conflict with what he wants to do. I don't think the IP of the three rich guys you name is worth squat.
The people of the USA are currently spending billions of dollars on research. Duh. Read more than the tabloids and webzines. Most of these greedy corps. are also being paid to do their research through tax deferments. Go buy a stamp and do some good.
Woz teaches kids in schools. My god man! Think of the millions of dollars he's losing by not being an asshole.
The reason you can't understand me is because your not thinking beyond a very simple model you've constructed about how the world works. Take a look at reality and sees what kind of shit you have a grip on.
This is why I have nothing but respect and admiration for Linus Torvald and people like him.
Your attitude it contemptible and fills me with disgust.
I honestly believe that people would spend billions of dollars to help other people. Companies would not. I believe that companies would kill billions of people, if they could make a return on their investment. Don't you think creating diseases would be more profitable? You could inoculate the select few.
Your IP is worth nothing to me. Maybe you could copywrong it and pull in a few pennies. I would rather reward the generous.
Your right but the advantage of the web is persistance, which is often over looked. This address will always be availible to anyone coming across it. Unlike any other time base medium, I can get to it when ever I feel it might be important.
My favorite part of the movie is when the whiny cook character got blown away. It shocked me at first but then I realized that it's exactly what everyone wished for in the 5th Element.
I don't really mind what the company calls itself. I'm mostly concerned with what they are going to do with my money to support Linux. I've been getting mailings from weasel companies trying to sell me Linux stuff. I can't tell what these companies are doing for the code. And won't buy from them.
The important thing is companies keep working to make Linux better as well as profit from it. If they are not supporting GNU software then they are just making money off other peoples work rather than contributing to it.
My money is going to the companies that further free software. That's the service I want and will continue to pay for regardless of mergers.
Whoa now, I'd be happy with a few humans doing a show first. No need to start with the animal acts right away. Zero gee whoopi would have to be one of the funniest or one of the most erotic things to see. Uh, I mean study. Don't forget while the puritans may balk at the price, the wise know space can be paid for with vice.
All you've done is sorted a hierarchy from information. This does not make it a hierarchy your just limiting yourself to think of it as one. Think of all the maps of the world which put the northern hemisphere on the top. It's not on the top. You are deciding that the English speaking US centric world will be the internet and your definition of it's continents reflects that. What are you really trying to find out?
I think there are two vectors to define the internet right now -- BuyMyShitNet and FreeShitNet. MyNet encompasses all the Nets you describe. YourNet, is that ContNet or KatzNet, maybe limited. The important thing to realize about the Net is contributed nets where people are actually trying to make something for each other are more important, the BMSNet where the goal is only commerce is secondary. Of your nine selections, seven are BuyMyShitNets. My greatest concern is that BMSNet will convince every one that the net is a MALL and not exchange communities. The Corps want us to make all the maps with them on top. Which is what your doing. The UnderNet for instance, isn't under anything.
The largest part of the internet is the mass of home pages. Not because millions see them but because they represent millions of people participating and being a part of the internet.
I think the news today has changed from what company is offering support to how said companies are providing support. For a time it was important we could show Linux was viable comercially but now that the bandwagon has started we don't need push it as much as steer the wagon in directions we want.
I want to read about companies that have support, not just anounce it. And new OS projects that are starting or are significantly changing. Is IBM doing anything for Linux? Does Creative have linux software? I want to hear about companies offering software not just drivers. Does Iomega have Gnome Zip utilities? Who is GPLing anything?
I may be the only one but I bought the Linux Version of Quake because ID is supporting Linux not just announcing support. I could give feed back with my $$
I'd like to see Linux news follow my perspective and start tracking companies involvment in Linux not just read about catch up by every company under the sun.
In one word -- Scientology. Their recent 2000 celebration was full of digital people. Look up Operation clambake for the news on it. One : Amazon.com has no size and makes no money. It relies on mindshare which is a volitile thing. We have more than enough people to effect a change in ideas
Two : The media is a whore and will follow any story. It has it's darlings, but destroys them will equal verasity. GNU makes code, the media can't manipulate code. If it's good code no one cares about how you _feel_ about it.
Three : I missed the line in the contract when I signed up to be a geek. Was there something there saying I'm not supposed to be politcal? Any one who reads slashdot and thinks geeks are not political has problems with their processes.
Yeah, and I can get a lot more worked up about what RMS says than what Amazon sells. If RMS doesn't want me to shop there, well I've got the rest of the net to shop. Count me in. It's the least I can do to humor the crazy old guy. After Amazon's customer profiling and then this suit, RMS's word is just the third strike against them. I'm kind of surprised but I care more about him than any.com.
Plus in the back of my mind is a weird thing from "Dune." The power to destroy the spice is the power over the spice. If we can destroy only one.com, we will have manifested some kind of power. My motives are petty and so naive, but it would be so cool to frag amazon.com.

What is to keep PhotoShop from reading the initial water mark and then re-imprinting it back on the new image? It could even do this without your knowledge.
I don't think we have made enough difference, I'd like to see them crash and burn. Another company will come up and provide the service but it will be paranoid about my data as well. Amazon hasn't made any amends for doing such a stupid thing. I'm never going to order from them and I will advise others not to. There are a number of other companys out there. I say live by the net, die by the net. If we kill one company, that will make a difference and no one will forget.
