I know no other way to put it in English (the free as in beer nonsense clarifies nothing frankly).
In Spanish it is very simple: "Linux no es gratuito, es libre".
My point is, when I buy Linux services I have full control over my data and support companies that roughly agree with my view of the world.
When somebody buys Microsoft, they are making business with a company that is unethical to say the least (cue for cascade of Slashdot histories about this) and that can (and has) screwed users over access to their own data.
The choice is clear, I made it 10 years ago. If Dell or others provide me with that choice, how they use their hard earned cash is frankly none of my business (well, not entirely, but in general that would be it).
Often people reply to this that one should use the best tool for the job, failing to notice that ethical aspects are also important when deciding which tool is best.
Most people will not allow a bad plumber, with a string of complaints anywhere near their shower or toilette, nevertheless give Microsoft carte blanche when it comes to the most important technology they may be using at home (and work).
Schwarzenegger and Ford would look out of place for a reason: because they are making sequels of a role they have enacted themselves before.
There is no reason whatsoever why older people could not do action roles. It is the simplistic view of some moviemakers that you have to conform to whatever age you are and follow the tired stereotypes.
In all honestly lots of the "action" movies nowadays lack lots of substance, because you simply cant believe that somebody in his 20s will have the responsibility to save the world, the free world or even his town.
When designing a device you offer usability, speed is a nice thing to provide, but frankly one prefers to provide something familiar.
Keyboards, specially in such small devices, are not user friendly (they come in all kind of presentations, from T9 arrangements with predictive test, to QWERTY that is not quite the same, to worst arrangements (like all the letters in alphabetic order).
The Palm solution used what any newcomers would know how to do: writing. There should be no wonder the the Nintendo DS draws from that same conclusion in some of their most popular games.
I would fire somebody telling me that is their reason not to accept some piece of code.
Why? Because that is a subjective judgement, and in big programming projects one should be as objective as possible. Oh yes, and because it says nothing about any perceived issues, so the person being judged has no way to "correct" the "problem".
If drastic changes needed to be be made you should go as far as creating a new product, so people stick to the old one that works while devs polish the new product.
When I saw how incomplete and different v. 2 is from v. 1.4 I could simply not believe it.
No podcasts? No support for music players? (if there is any it isn't working) and a complete redesign of the user interface (a complete no,no when it comes to user interface design).
Sorry, I am very grateful for what has been provided before, but it would be a disservice to say that the new version is anything but something to be ashamed about in the planning of the transition and the execution.
A text book case of how *not* to transition to a new version of a product.
Seriously, all this glorification of jobs that are shitty by nature (plumbing! For bunnies sakes. Fucking plumbing) is really laughable.
Well boys, those of you that can't stand the heat can go and unblock toilets, the rest of us will continue to power the economy (or whatever is left of it by the bankers).
What is next? Advocating to become hunter gatherers?
In the EU the humble Polish plumber has become an institution.
They do a better job, they are cheaper, they don't come to your place stinking or drunk. And they quit plumbing as soon as they can because it is an unpleasant, hard, difficult job.
If plumbing is the plan B of people that work in IT then frankly they deserve to do plumbing.
A single binary in Windows ahs a chance in hell to run is transplanted to a different machine, specially if it is a 3rd party application (you have a better chance with binaries that come as part of Windows, but I would be surprised if they don't start DRR signing them in the future).
Japanese and Korean women have dominated many marathon races.
Paula Radcliffe, an European woman, has broken all marathon records.
For many years, Europeans dominated long distance races, even after some celebrated victories by the likes of Abebe Bikila and there was an Italian Olympic champion recently.
Why Kenyans and Ethiopians are dominating now? Because they have set up a well organized training (with very few resources) and train harder than anybody else (some Kenyans that ply they trade in Mexico were surprised at how unwilling local Mexican runners were to do more training, this history is repeated in many other places. Say what you may about excessive training, these Kenyan chaps were more willing to put the effort, the fact that they were winning all races in the Mexican running calendar seems to probe them right).
And even then you get some Moroccans that beat the heck out of them...
Something else you forget is that genetic variability amongst people from Africa is far greater between them than in relation to Europeans and Africans.
When it comes to sprinting, dominated by Caribbean nations and the US, funnily enough the black people in those countries are more likely to have European blood due to the systematic rape of black women by men of European descent during slavery.
Recently countries like Nigeria and, surprisingly, Saudi Arabia, are generating better sprinters. The reason is not genetic, the interest in the sport has grown and more people train harder to achieve better results.
There are plenty of trades for which you need a licence, previous relevant experience or recognition from some body or association, in order to ensure you comply with health and safety issues.
An unemployed person would not immediately meet the criteria to become a sex worker if sex work was legalized and properly regulated.
People doing searches are the most important costumers Google has, even if the don't play a single penny.
Clearly many people out there, in spite of being sitting in front of a bloody computer, perhaps for many years, can't grasp how some business models , based on the availability of cheap computers and fast network connections, work.
Building and installing a computer are grunt tasks, that require lesser expertise.
My time is expensive, I want a machine ready to go where I can do the real interesting bits.

Why do you insist about speed?
When designing a device you offer usability, speed is a nice thing to provide, but frankly one prefers to provide something familiar.

You type faster than you write because you are a nerd (no offence intended, clearly it is a matter of fact).
Palm correctly discovered that such input method was the most user friendly around.
Most people understand hand writing, even if you have to tweak it slightly to accommodate the device.
Unfortunately they followed the lesser players in the field ( up to the iPhone, whose text inputting is completely atrocious).
Incompetence enforcing closed licenses is not openness.

There is no other way, to think there is is self delusional.

What the heck is it doing in Ubuntu?
It is unforgivable.

They pay less.

They don't earn that much, there is not s single shred of evidence of this.

Like in the neighbours complaining about noise and being told there was classified work going on there?
That is good enough for me.
But who is going to do the necessary work of governing?
People outside politics it seems that they think that all politicians are a bunch of liars, when the fact is they are just people like us.
Simply put the people are demanding that politicians are not like them, which is frankly ridiculous.
