The accident was because of an uncool UI! The uncool UI showed 5 where there should be 5000. How uncool is that! With a cool UI that would never have happened.
How did that happen?
We pass our old computers down. The guys in engineering need a new PC, so they get one and we pass theirs on to somebody doing clerical work. Well,
if you don't wipe the hard drive on that PC, that's a violation. Even if they can tell a piece of software isn't being used, it's still a violation if it's on that hard drive. What I really thought is that you ought to treat people the way you want to be treated. I couldn't treat a customer the way Microsoft dealt with me...I went from being a pro-Microsoft guy to instantly being an anti-Microsoft guy.
US officials report that their weapon inspectors have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. It's an Apache server. "This is VERY strong evidence", says the cheif Inspector. "They could use this server to calculate ballistic paths of shells like we did with ENICAC in WW2. And these shells can be LOADED with chemical and biological agents".
In other news: A group in Sweden has filed a request to their government to initiate "Operation American freedom". "Yes it's true, and we are considering this", says a high swedish official. They have a very weak democratic system. The last election was a joke. They still have the death penalty, that we banned two centuries ago. They have nukes and chemical weapons and they do not follow the UN recommedations, but invade other contries at their own discretion. "I know we are a small peace loving country with limited military resources, but we have to do this. This nation is a threat. And with determination and creative behind enemy lines warfare we will see this through. The American people deserve their freedom. I know many Americans say they dont want to be set free this way because many innocent Americans will die, but they have been blinded by their enslavement. This evil Bush regime must come to an end and their weapons of mass destruction (Like Apache servers) must be eliminated.
The Vikings will set the American people free. We feel obliged by future generations and god(Thor with the hammer).
A COBOL programmer found herself in high demand towards the end of 1999 because very few people knew enough COBOL to make the changes necessary for the year to quietly change from 1999 to 2000. She found she could charge top dollar, but was really looking forward to a long quiet rest after the "Y2K Design Flaw" was laid to rest. In fact, after New Year's Day, she had arranged to have herself frozen for a couple of months and to be awakened in the middle of the Spring of 2000.
All went well, and there were no catastophes. She slipped off to "sleep" with no problems. She knew nothing until she started to awake. There were several people in white coats around her looking worried and they were all asking the same question. "Are you OK? Are you all right?"
"Yes, yes, I think I am fine," she answered. "What is going on?"
"Well," they said haltingly, "There was a bit of a problem with your 'rest.' You have been asleep for a lot longer than you had planned. The bad news is that it is the year 9999. The good news is that we understand that you know COBOL."
I'm not sure why these people reach architect level positions. Just the other day, one of these architects was advocating Adobe Distiller as a cost saving solution, when GNU/Ghostscript solves the same problem (converting.ps to.pdf) for much much less
Aha! Now I see... This must be connected to the famous BillGatosaurus finding - A giant dinosaur that lured and devoured other dinosaurs if they had some uniqe evoloutionary feature. It is beleived that this creature damaged the dinosaurs possibilities to evolve and survive, and most likley contributed to their extinction.
Dr. Xu said the new fossil represented a distinct species of the small predatory dinosaurs known as dromaeosaurs. It has been given the name Microraptor gui, honoring the Chinese paleontologist Gu Zhiwei.
Wrong! This is clearly a prehistoric ancestor to Microsoft Windows! It's amazing that GUI's existed so long ago.
MS is doing what they always do - Embrace and extend. The difference here is that they don't do it on a technologial level, but on a idea/conceptual level - they try to embrace the "idea" of OSS.

No its not in a controlled stall, or something even remotely comparable to that. Its called inherently unstable aircraft first used in aircraft design by no less than Orville and Wilbur Wright! Stall is something very different.
And NO these planes does not plummet to earth vaporised by their own instability if the on board computers fails, which seems to be the common belief. The normal solution as seen in the Swedish JAS or the Eurofighter is to have forward stabilisers that if in "serious shit" can be set to flow freely automatically or by the pilot. This gives the plane enough stable aircraft behaviour so that a good pilot can fly it without computer assistance.
But you need of course to have some juice in the fly-by-wire system otherwise you have to steer by thrust (which is perfectly doable if you have two engines but difficult).
Do some homework dude. And who the... are modding these days!?;-)
It's soo easy to become and keep fit. Here is what I've done. It sums up to a total of 15 minutes change in your daily routine (plus the 2 minutes it takes to read this text). No dangerous exercise equipment like the Flab Blaster(tm) are needed. All you need is a comfortable pair of sneakers. Think you can manage that? Read on then.
I was a bit (well maybe more than a bit) overweight. My morning routine was to get up at seven, go down to my car and move it from the schoolyard (where I park over night because it's free) to the regular parking lot. Pop in a coin, go up to my flat and have breakfast, shower, brush teeth and then drive to work.
The only thing I've changed today is that before I go move my car, I put on trainer clothes, and when the car is moved I walk fast and/or run for 15 minutes (depending on my mood). You only need to walk or run in a pace that makes you breath a little heavier and sweat some. No heavy running in the morning! Thats bad for you.
Be sure to do this every workday. Do not eat breakfast before you walk/run. But you should always drink some water before exercising of course. What happens is that your body burns fat, because you havent inserted any other energy. And it also gives you a higher metabolism through the whole day. It starts up the engine so to speak.
Yep that was it! Hard isnt it? I've lost both my big lovehandles from this, and I dont miss them a bit! Neither do the chicks...
And yes, you can start doing this tomorrow morning.;-)
More tips (if you can spare more than two minutes):
Drink water. I'm a drinker and I drink all day. It helps keeping "the engine" up and running, and I get no headaches. But I do have to go to the bathroom more often. But I think that is a good thing, because it keeps me from sitting in front of the computer for too long periods of time.
Eat less fat. I dont eat much fat simply because I dont like fatty food very much, and even less nowdays when I'm fit.
Another advice in form of a wordsay: In the morning eat like a king. At lunch eat like a prince. In the evening eat like a beggar. Don't eat big meals after 6pm.
If you are hungry at night, eat a little and drink some water, then go back to bed and wait ten minutes. If you are still very hungry and cannot sleep, eat/drink some more and wait ten minutes. If you eat alot at once the body will not "note" the added energy in time, and you will eat too much.
Finally, an a bit off topic Darwinistic reflection: The desire too eat to much (IMHO of course) is something that traces back to the days when we lived in caves, and it was good Darwinism to kill weaker people in the flock and eat as much as possible when there was an oppurtunity to do so. Those who had these agressive and appetite genes survived and breed, and hence we have them in our geene pool. Nowdays our environment have changed, and killing "weaklings" and eat too much is certainly not something that adds to our chances of survival. If you want to be a good Darwinist and pass on your wonderful genes today you need to be able to do the opposite! Eat less, be friendly, and also of course have the desire and skill to nail lots of girls. But mankind have finally fooled Darwin in a way - me for example is very happy with making love using a condom, and therefore my genes will perish. Well, one day I will have a family because that is something I want in life. But the true "darwinistical surivivors" today is men that have unprotected sex with lots of whomen that have the capability to raise babies on their own, not caring about AIDS and venerial desease. Their genes will be the geene pool of tomorrow wheter we like it or not.
But life isn't all about genes. Or is it? I sure like mine, and I also think mankind would have use of them when I'm done with them...so lets start shagging and leave the girl with a newborn on her hands for anotherone!...no wait...thats immoral and selfish...doh! Guess mankind have to do without my dna. You'll probably make it anyway;-)

WORLD TRADE CENTER BOMBING SUSPECT APPREHENDED IN PAKISTAN
Attorney General Janet Reno said today that Ramzi Ahmed
Yousef, a fugitive indicted for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing
in New York City, has been arrested abroad and returned to the
United States by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to be tried on
the bombing charges.
Reno said "Yousef was apprehended in Pakistan and turned over
to American authorities to face charges of taking part in a bombing
that killed six persons and injured more than 1,000 others."
Reno said Yousef was taken into custody Tuesday in Pakistan,
turned over to FBI agents there, and then flown aboard a U.S.
aircraft to New York last night.
FBI Director Louis J. Freeh said "The FBI has conducted a
world-wide search for Yousef since he was charged shortly after the
bombing on February 26, 1993." Yousef was first indicted on March
11, 1993, and named in a fifth superseding indictment on September
1.
Freeh said "Other parts of the federal government that made
invaluable contributions to the investigation were the Department
of State, including its Diplomatic Security Service, and the Drug
Enforcement Administration."
United States Attorney Mary Jo White of the Southern District
of New York said "Yousef is expected to be arraigned in Manhattan
Federal Court on Thursday."
White said "The message that this sends is that we will pursue
accused terrorists wherever they seek to hide and bring them to
justice."
Four of Yousef's co-defendants were convicted of federal
charges on March 4, 1994, in the World Trade Center bombing:
Mohammad Salameh, Nidal Ayyad, Mahmud Abouhalima, and Ahmad
Mohammad Ajaj. They have each been sentenced to 240 years of
imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
The indictment charged Yousef, 27, who was born in the Middle
East, with 11 counts relating to the World Trade Center bombing.
The most serious charges carry a maximum penalty upon conviction of
life in prison without parole.
The indictment said Yousef, using a false name, flew to New
York from Pakistan in September 1992, and later purchased
chemicals. In January and February 1993, the indictment said,
Yousef and other co-conspirators mixed chemicals in a Jersey City,
New Jersey, apartment to produce explosive materials.
The co-conspirators caused an explosive device to detonate in
a van in a garage area beneath the World Trade Center complex on
February 26, 1993, the indictment said. On the same day, Yousef
again used a false name when he boarded a flight in New York City
for Pakistan, the indictment said.

Funny, the article says that Patrik Falstrom came up with this idea. Falstrom is a swedish name. He's getting credit for inventing something that's more than 50 yrs old! Cool;-)
About privacy: Yes there is a definite problem. Personally I don't like our person-numbers very much. It's easy to get someones number, and then do different frauds.
It's called person-number. It's easy to remember since it's your birth date plus four digits YYMMDD-NNNN like 700516-4953. The first three last digits is a birth number between 001 - 999 that is odd for boys and even for girls. The last digit is a modulo 10 checksum - add the first nine digits and subtract the last digit of the result from 10 to get it. Like 7+0+0+5+1+6+4+9+5 = 37. And 10 -7 = 3.
We've had this system since 1947. The checksum digit was added 1967. When you are born or immigrate to Sweden you receive a person-number and it never canges (except if you get 100+)
This is of course convinient to use in databases, and every public record uses them, it is also very, very easy to combine different databases since this number is a uniqe primary key. This of course is a privacy issue. For eg the police can take their database and combine it with the immigrant office records, and the hospitals records and the...you get it.
You might think there would be problems with the ammount of numbers. There have been cases when people have received an existing person-number, but it's because of human error, since the numbers are plenty. At least for this country (8 million). All that is required is that babies born on the same day get different birth numbers. When you, or if rather, you pass one hundered years the minus sign is changed to a plus sign like 700516+4953 to avoid that new born babies are confused with you.
But yes, old and dead people have received samples of babie dipers etc in the mail. Not all systems are perfect;-) It's the same as the millennium bug problem.
