    I don't know why I get so worked up everytime these
    Katz flamefests erupt. I guess I take offense
    when people try to tell me what I shouldn't read.
    Which is exactly what all of you "dump Katz" people
    are doing. No one is holding a gun to you head,
    making you click on his articles (i hope.) I have
    had to come to grips with the fact that sengen will
    never be canned, so I just skip over his articles.

    I am a Gnome fan. I admit KDE currently rules as superior desktop environment for Linux. Where do you think we'll be in 2 years? I'm sorry, but Gnome's GTK+, Corba, and scripting support will simply blow KDE out of the water. Sorry.

    Flame me if I'm wrong, but I thought the GPL states that the source MUST be included with any binaries you distribute. They say they are only supplying "important" sources, all others you must either pay extra for or download them off of FTP. As far as I'm concerned, this is a violation of the GPL. Losers...

    a "Channel Bar".
    Think of all the new technologies we could incor-
    porate into the OS kernel! I envision:
    ActiveConsole
    ActiveSockets
    ActiveTTY s
    Active/dev/null
    ActiveKernelPanic
    DirectCoreD ump, etc.

    Just one I came up with off the top of my head...
    White text on blue background during login. Would
    use FAT, FAT32, NTFS fs modules. Extra kernel
    would kill all processes and demand a system
    reboot after 30 mins.; for simulated Microsoft NT
    "look and feel".
    Costs $250, each new version is a complete rewrite
    of the previous, and forces you to upgrade all
    other software on your system, too. Two words- browser integration
    What do you think, sirs? (Back to work...)

    I don't think it's enought to force me to migrate
    to Be quite yet, though. Not that it should stop
    anyone else... :)
    Be OS really needs a killer app to attract people
    (like myself) entrenched in other platforms.

    Please elaborate! I don't have much experience
    with BeOS, so I can't make any assumptions re:
    your comment.
    I'm not a huge fan of X, so I'm interested to
    hear how BeOS could be considered an improvement.
    Maybe you're just refering to the BeOS GUI, in
    which case X is not the problem, but instead
    whatever GUI running on top of it!

    They may be Fugly, but they are the best case I've
    ever seen for adding/removing/repairing hardware
    components. The whole side of the thing opens up
    like a drawbridge, even when its running! Very slick.
    (I set one up at work last week). I even sorta
    like the weird handles.
    Everyone here who sees it wants one, because it looks
    "cool". I'm not sure how "cool" they look, but
    they're very functional.

    regarding the article, I find the idea of a class-action suit against MS (mentioned at the end of the article) very interesting. That would definitely be one way to punish MS, if the Judge doesn't want to break them up into baby Bills.
