That doesn't happen only in the the Korean ones.
WOW, for instance, has player position (x,y,z) in memory, and trusts the client about it. Some time ago, when teleport hacks started to surface, Blizzard started doing what koreans/chinese have done for years: monitor the player computer for software that could alter memory, and some other hacks. I believe they also started looking server traces to see people teleporting into non-standard destinations (people can teleport to their home in once an hour).
The problem with not trusting the client, is the resource usage in the server to monitor that much. I dont think wow realms support more than 2k users as it is, if everything was to be controlled on the client, they woudn't be able to support 200.
The point is, consumers have no choise. You cannot uninstall MSIE. Several OS functions use MSIE exclusively and are designed not to work with standards. So, consumers can install other browsers, but they are not able to completely replace MSIE because MS worked in order to avoid it.
I'm not sure how it ended, but in the desktop search space it was quite similar. They flatly refused to uninstall, only allowing other products to run IN ADDITION to theirs, so, if you didn't want the dead weight, you would just use their product instead of, for instance, Google search.
Actually, bundling isn't fine (i.e is ilegal) when you have a monopoly on one product, and use the monopolist position as leverage to get a monopoly in other market/product.
Still, they added hooks everywhere (i.e. windows update, and lots of other shit) in order to say they REALLY REALLY need MSIE. I think they already lost that one (bundling) is US courts, but the DOJ dedided to sit on their thumbs and give them a couple slaps in the wrists(hide icons? wtf is that?).
So, for EU courts it should be like fishing in a barrel. Opera should have done this a couple years back.
Bingo. The escalation of bandwith was used to give bandwidth to p2p. If it wasn't for P2P, most prople would probably be just as happy with a 256k connection or even less.
Really?
Any info/link? I wonder how many strings are they going to attach in order to give the worse support they can get off with, make it impossible to install or support, or some other of the things MS tends to do when they give out a "gift".
Erm...
Fact #2, MS already has a large following of providers preparing and starting stream and video based web video content sites based on Silverlight. Since it can do things like flip channels as fast a TV, etc companies looking to provide multi-stream content are going with Silverlight as it is the only viable solution - let alone the only multi-platform solution.
Are they going to support multiplatform (as in Linux?). What I saw was that they were going to "give a hand" to people developing it, using Mono (which is not totally in the clear now, as it has patents issues), but that's not quite the same as supporting anything else besides windows (and perhaps Mac).
Fact #3, a majority of Video pushed over the web is already in VC1/WMV format, yes this sounds strange with all the flash/Tube sites, but Windows Media is still either at the very top or close. Silverlight natively uses the same content, so for any site using WMV content already, they will flip to silverlight, as it will increase their user base.
So, wmv is now multiplatform? Are they going to release and support the codecs needed to give full access to the funcionality available on windows-silverlight?
At work, Vista PC , no admin access.
Every time I open a PDF it tries to run an update.
It can't. I have to cancel de elevation MODAL dialog. The only way to disable updates is to complete an update, only then it shows the option to disable it. The other way is to patch something in the registry in H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, which, of course, is not possible as a nonadmin user.
Fucking braindead.
Yes, because of all the things that my country does wrong in the World, banning online gambling ranks at the top of the list of the things we should be "reined in" on.
What the US should be "reined in" on, is to respect the treaties signed, or start loosing the privileges you got from them, and respect the resolutions, even if they are not favourable to them, when they use the resolutions of the same organizations to force others countries to act.
Newsflash: webmail is quite practical for most people, that's why everyone and their brother have a couple of accounts on some provider or another (and many people on more than one). Don't you? Not even a hotmail account for MSN or Spam?
Gmail had the best UI and gave 500-1000x the storage of the competition when it first started, that's why they got so big so soon.
The US signed treaties, and usually got something in exchange (like access to markets). US is allowed to sell to other markets in conditions it woudn't have otherwise, that's why you MUST. Enforcement is as easy as removing you access to markets, giving you higher tariffs in your exports, etc.
Actually, you are wrong. The problem is that the US allows some local online gambling, while not allowing the same to outside countries.
If the US was to actually ban all forms of online gambling,it would be ok. What they cannot do, is to discriminate against other countries like they do with Antigua.
It doesn't uninstall IE, but it makes the other programs the default. Except when using other MS software (like messenger) that opens MSIE and not the default browser. And windows update. And several other things.
If Microsoft wants to win customers from Apple, they should just drop DRM all together. If Amazon and Apple (iTunes+) can do it, why not Microsoft? Probably because that would show everyone that the delays in Vista, the crappy performance due to inserting DRM everywhere and all the customer alienation they have been working on the last years, was a complete and total waste of time that adds no value to the people that are supposed to buy their OS, and probably a waste of shareholder $$$.
You're required to vote, else you could be fined or sent to jail. I also live in Argentina, and I haven't voted in like 15 years. No fine, no jail. I think there's some kind of amnesty after every election.
The fine for not voting can only be changed by law, and it hasn't been updated by congress in like 30 years, and with the inflation in argentina, I think the fine is currently like 0.001 pesos, but nonetheless, its not enforced at all.
I agree. I even end up flaming MS so that fanboys expend their mod points on me instead! Shoo! Shoo! M$ go home!.

Lol same here, its basically part of the script on most if not all of my dreams :)
Try this for size:

There is a Futurama PS2 game : http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/futurama?q=futurama I believe there's a Xbox version of that too.
For some reason I read dismemberment instead of disbarment in the article summary and I was all like "whoa".
If they use they mod points to silence us, they cant use them to shill.
Go to MSNBC.COM and leave us alone!
This thread has been officially invaded by Microsoft fan boys with moderation points.
Hah you had to go back to spanish :P. What's english for pijotero?
I think the fine is still $50, but 50 "Pesos Argentinos", which might be 1/100 of a present peso (say, 1/300 of a dolar for you yanks).
I'm not sure they still control it, I went in and out of the country several times with the ID these years, and I never got any problem.
The fine for not voting can only be changed by law, and it hasn't been updated by congress in like 30 years, and with the inflation in argentina, I think the fine is currently like 0.001 pesos, but nonetheless, its not enforced at all.
mmmm... I thought that all google (youtube) had to do was to take down the content if they receive a takedown notice...
