Except, of course, they don't stand up for the Second Amendment at all.

  4. Re:Perl is a trainwreck - retire it on Larry Wall on Perl 6 · · Score: 2, Informative

I hope everyone reads this post entirely. It is obvious satire. It would be a troll if you don't read it all.

  5. Music Cataloging by another name on Dissecting Songs Down to Their 'Musical Genome' · · Score: 2, Interesting

Only more sphisticated. Several things going on here. It would be wonderful to have the scoring of these songs as played. They you could indeed feed them into Markov models and analyze them. One of the DB admins here did that sort of thing with classical music for his MA years ago with Mozart, Bach, etc. The resultant composer recognizers could correctly identify pieces that were not part of the training sets.

This sort of analysis might be used in copyright infringment cases as well as looking for new artists.

  6. Re:We stand up to Chavez on How Chinese Evade Government's Web Controls · · Score: 1

Chavez was democratically elected ?? Balderdash, he rigged the election, and Jimmy "I never saw an anti-US election i didn't like" Carter gave his imprimatur to it. Chavez will destroy his country just as Castro and Mugabe have done.

  7. Re:Dr. Who sucks on New Dr. Who Episode Leaked · · Score: 1

Yeah, you must be the only one.

  8. How about the dreaded Pacfic Tsunami ?? on The Coming Atlantic Mega-Tsunami · · Score: 1

It is possible that the east coast of Hawaii (the big island) couls also catastrophically slide off and generate a wave the wipes the entire West coast as well.

  9. Re:Telepath War or Crusade? on Babylon 5 Movie Starts Filming in April · · Score: 1

From other things I have read (I can't recall), but Pat Tallman is in the movie, It was essential to have her, So I suspect that it is about the Teep war.

  10. Re:It is about time to change the name from on Perl 6 Grammars and Regular Expressions · · Score: 1

I'm not really advocating a change of name from regex, only to recognize how much more powerful the matching has become.

  11. Re:It is about time to change the name from on Perl 6 Grammars and Regular Expressions · · Score: 1

I'll have to dig out my copy of Aho and Ullman and brush up. I've not taken a good look at the "strength" of the new matcher.

  12. It is about time to change the name from on Perl 6 Grammars and Regular Expressions · · Score: 2, Interesting

Regular Expressions to Context Sensitive (at least) Parsing. I'm not a big Perl Geek, but I use it on a daily basis.

  13. Bleah on Tim Berners-Lee and the Semantic Web · · Score: 1

The Sematic Web is nothing more or less than the "Big Plan" as Daniel Burnham Lambert (an architect) "Make no small plans, they have not the power to stir men's blood" (maybe not quite exact quote). The Semantic Web is where all of those unemployed AI weenies from the 80's have migrated, and have foisted off scheme/lisp and rule-based systems as well as all of the baggage from symbolic AI onto the unsuspecting new generation of programmers. It is sort of like nuclear fusion, "We'll have it in 20 years" --said 40 years ago and still repeated.

  15. OK let's have some fun here on An ID Number for Everything · · Score: 2, Insightful

barcodes for every thing, even cash. It could be well nigh impossible to have an anonymous transaction, unless you resort to barter, but make sure that you have removed the RFID (if it is legal to do so). So you microwave you dollars to fry the RFID, this could be illegal and no business would accept your cash. The possibilities are endless, and very scary.

But if you are not doing anything illegal you have nothing to worry about
Tell that to the Cubans who simply want to loan books to their friends---oops Animal Farm, 1984, the Bible are illegal in Cuba.

  16. Brent Spiner & Other thoughts on Will Smith as I, Robot · · Score: 2, Interesting

They should have considered Brent Spinner (sp?) for this, as he as thought through the nuances (I really hate that word but it fits her) of playing a non-human.

Is it really I, Robot, or is it Caves of Steel, etc that they are doing.

If you want semi-pornographic Science Fiction, why not more Robert Heinlein ??

I will not watch movie with Robin Williams in the if I can help it.
