So what are you going to do? Do you honestly think people are going to just stop driving cars? Stop using the things that industry produces and has to pollute in order to produce?

I would love to live in this wonder place that you people seem to live in. Where everything just magically happens and there is no by product.

Hold on, wait just a second... I can see.. the future.. people walking and riding bicycles everywhere they go. Wait, no wait just a second, look there is a piece of paper that wasn't created from a tree.. it was created from a piece of matter that was formed from nothing.

Give me a break.. you can talk all of this as much as you would like. But in the end you will drive your gas guzzling car home, check the tree killing mail, and go inside turn your heater on and watch television..

And that being said, I try to find the most energy efficient ways of doing things with the least amount of by product, but I don't worry about every little thing that is told me is going to kill me in the next couple of years.

And quite frankly, when that time comes .. big deal.. death is the completion of life in whatever form it may take.

the real problem, when it boils down to it, is that if it is completely done away with then you have a problem with people that have put into it all of their lives expecting it to be there when they need it only to find out now the program is done away with. So what do you do then? Just throw them to the curve? Issue them a refund? Unlikely on the refund.. but what then? People that are paying now are supporting those that paid it way back when. It's dying because there are tons of people drawing it that never put in on it. I say that if you are going to do away with it (which I"m all for because I'm still very young) then you should do it in such a way that the first thing you do is cut out people that have never put in on it or put in very little. Then, hey why don't we take away some government corporate welfare that pays for big businesses to do misc things (millions of tax dollars were spent for McDonalds to advertise their BigMac in England for example). Why not cut that out to pay for individuals.. why? Because big business runs this country.. not the people.

My father had subscriptions to Atari magazines that used to come with programs in them and he would sit me down with a magazine and I would type the games straight out of the magazine to play them. It was an Atari 400 with a tape drive on it for storage (remember that loud screaming noise that sounds like it would be on an industrial song track). I was 5 or 6 at the time. Later he would teach me how to change different things and teach me what they meant.

Unfortunately this seems to be a stigma in the film industry today, possibly not that they have ran out of ideas, but it's that when you throw up a name of a classic movie and say that you are going to "re-invision it" then it draws a crowd. Everyone that seen the original wants to see the new one.

It's all about the dollars essentially, and what better way to rack in the crowds but with a film story that has proven itself already. Even if the remake sucks, what do they care, they made money off of it.

I will say this much about purchasing the game itself. It costs lots of money to develop these games. Imagine if you only financed a game for a year and had to pay all the developers salary alone.. imagine what that costs that's not counting all the building, machinary, and misc costs not to mention graphics designers, midi and wav composers, etc. Reallly, game development is expensive, it would take a lot longer to comp just the loss of revenue put in (in advance I might add) on $10 a month per player. You also have to consider that that money also goes to pay for the fees that it costs to run the server itself (manpower, maintenance, T1s (or whatever they use), etc).

Really.. this kinda stuff costs money to perform and no one is going to do all of this without pulling down some kinda profit.

  17. Re:no death penalty != disposable !!! on Jack Emmert Responds to Your Questions · · Score: 1

What would be good is if they did it on a time based system. For instance if the player died then he would return as a ghost and have to find someone (npc or pc) to resurrect him (much like the old days of ultima online, I haven't played it recently in the past many years so I don't know if it still holds true). Then there would be a time limit to get back to the body, if the user didn't make it back to the body in time he would suffer xp debt and also his body would be lootable. Remember the old days of UO when if you died everything you had on your person was able to be taken? It sucked, but it made the game more interesting.

Also, if there is to be a time limit, it would need to be realistic, not a simple 15 minute timer, maybe an hour or two of real time.

Here's another idea, if there is going to be XP debt, don't make it so horrible! What's the point of spending 2 or 3 hours gaining xp to lose half of it in a second.. that's real discouraging..
