This has to be the greatest proof that Canada is culturally quite a different place from the US of A.
Look how differently it deals with similar issues:
When a problem arises in the US someon tries to drag to court everyone regardless of whether they are directly responsible or not.
Canucks? Well, they just tax the bejeesus out of everyone until nobody can afford to file a lawsuit in the first place:). That's one way of dealing with frivolous lawsuits.
Why can't Thunderbird deal with multipart attachments? Forte can, Outlook Express can and Thunderbird/Mozilla News seem to be the only mainstream newsreaders that cannot. I think this should be high on their agenda. Remember, pr0n friendliness always helps higher download rates.
I get the hunch that the cure for cancer will always be "just around the corner". We claim to understand so much about genetic engineering yet most of our knowledge is very fragmented and based on "fiddling" by modifiing individual genes and seeing what happens.
Without a full and thorough understanding of the human genome we will probably not develop a reliable cure for cancer and it is going to take a long while before we've learned everything there is to know about genetics.
40% adoption for the paid version? Any marketing drone would tell you that that's huuge! If they were hoping for an even higher adoption rate they were deluding themselves.
Yeah. Personally I'd like to see Anne Robinson (yup, the Weakest Link girl) give an interview to this scumbag.
A few years ago Anne had a BBC programme called "Watchdog" where they picked on scummy companies, usually trying to get those companies to honour warranties, refund crappy holidays etc. She's extremely sharp and quick witted. I think she'd wipe the floor with Mr. McBride.
You're ridiculous. Most companies keep their employees for no more than a couple of years and shed them as soon as it's necessary to adjust quarterly figures. You just prevented someone valuable from entering the employment market.
It's better to be underemployed than unemployed. It's because of employers like you that people nowadays, fear obtaining higher education and are reduced to doing mediocre jobs and become disposable .
Well, perhaps Sinclair's products weren't the sturdiest things around but they hit the right price point to allow for large consumer adoption. How many folk in say, West Midlands would have been able to buy a 2 grand Apple Mac for a personal computer? Speccy cost a tiny fraction of that and that's why it was such a hit. It wasn't perfect but for me it was a lot better than having no 'puter at all.
Cars, computers, TVs, and pretty much everything else except for housing and food will cost around the same as it does in the USA. It's NOT a good deal no matter how you slice it.
I spent 8 years in the UK and this is my third year in North America. Some things are cheaper over here but generally you get what you pay for. It's just that UK stores tend not to sell total crap so they appear more expensive.
I'll take Marks&Spencer over Wally's mart any day thankyouverymuch.
In what way is JBuilder or IDEA better than eclipse? Please give me a few examples instead of laundry lists of features. I always find myself more productive with eclipse than JBuilder. My shop used to be all JBuilder and now it is almost exclusively eclipse because that's what the developers wanted to use. As far as IDEA goes, it crashed right after I installed it on my office windows box. I tried it at home and ended up with the same result: crash on launch. It's pathetic. There is nothing out of the ordinary about my boxes except that they all use JDK 1.4.2
American companies are more and more frequently ran by foreigners. When Daimler bought Chrysler (pardon, I meant merged with) all the American middle management monkeys were let go and got replaced with the German crew. Smart move on Daimler's side. In two years time they might start making decent cars.
Since when was Estonia 'nearly bankrupt' or had hot water as a 'luxury'. Estonia has always been doing relatively well even during the years of Soviet occupation.
Just to clarify Estonia is not an 'ex-Soviet' republic. It is an independent country that was forcibly occupied by Soviets in 1940 and regained their independence in 1990. Even their language has nothing to do with Russian. It shares its roots with Swedish and Norwegian.
The perception seems to be that people won't put up with higher native resolutions on desktops. So the dot pitch of an average desktop lcd is quite high. Dell has a 20" 1600x1200 screen which is as good as it gets for mainstream desktop lcd's.
Nonsense. My office is full of tecras and every time one of those gets dropped on the (carpeted) floor the lcd screen dies. They are anything but sturdy.
Czech Republic's per capita GDP is about the same as some of the EU countries (Spain and Greece come to mind). Czech employees ask for wages close to the EU average. While that is still cheaper than US workers it's still bound to be an order of magnitude higher than in India.
I suspect that those companies that are retracting from India had no idea how much of a culture shock they were in for by doing business in a third world country with very loose structure to federal laws and no technical infrastructure to speak of.

This is all great but how is this project going to work with languages other than English?

My favourite is actually JProfiler. Very slick and speedy swing based UI (screenshot) oh, and a really darn good profiler!
EU is the largest free trade area in the world. Both in terms of population and overall GDP.

Your points are only valid if you're talking eclipse-1.0 series. All your concerns have been addressed in the 2.x branch.

The only company that I worked for that survived various "economic downturns" was run by an engineering PhD. Take that.
Not from them you idiot. You'll get spammed by the "marketing research organizations" that NYT sells your email address to.
Oops. Got it the other way round. I knew it had roots in one of the scandinavian language families. Just picked the wrong one. Yikes.

While your equation is true remember that:
Communism = (~innovation)&&(~democracy)&&(~freedom )
Heh, it should probably be called UBIK. Fans of Philip K Dick certainly know what I mean :-).
The parent comment is funny as hell and it's refering to this.
