I don't think you're a troll, and I do think the woman is a douchebag, however, I also think the world is a better place with out the girl who killed herself.

    Why?

Earth doesn't need more emos. If your psyche isn't strong enough to withstand a breakup with a guy/gal you NEVER met, maybe you should be asked to leave the gene/meme pool.

  2. BitTorrent and More on Decent Book Clubs for Sci-Fi Fans? · · Score: 1

    1. I recommend bittorrent downloads - yes, of copyrighted materials for a specific reason: you can browse the book at your leisure and decide if you want to buy it. Especially useful for Audiobooks when you don't have the 50 bucks to buy them. Also, I stumbled across Zelazney's Amber series read by the author himself - a recording you can't even get at the library.

    2. Books.google.com - granted it's difficult due to get the latest versions, but the sample size there is getting large enough to be useful, and frankly, their interface to finding books has something left to be desired.

Others mentioned Hugo and Nebula award winners - I always try to read the nominees each year, keeping the best authors in a "check out all their new books" list.

  3. Re:I don't like Richard Dawkins on Richard Dawkins to Appear on Doctor Who · · Score: 1

Your statement is inconsistent. While the last 2 chapters of God Delusion are boring and re-hashed, your statement "that it rejects without proof" is wrong. Dawkins speaks specifically to this in God Delusion: extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof; case in point, the big invisible sky deity requires extraordinary proof of existence.

Dawkins doesn't say God doesn't exist, it's just very, very unlikely.

In short, you do agree with Dawkins, you just don't want to be associated with him because he's the bad kind of athiest, where you are the self-appointed good kind. Like any other minority, we're busy pointing fingers at each other rather than working a solution.

When sales to invoice (order to cash) processes are days/hours long vs. weeks or months, publically traded companies will do whatever they can to gain more business during the end of a quarter.

Is it bad business? Not really. Is it good business? Definitely not. Is it a fact of behavior for publically traded business try to squeeze every dollar out before the quarter ends? Yes.

    I agree with above poster.

The writer basically played HL1 Source and got completely wistful about the past and then wrote a snotty article.

Content-wise, HL2 will not live up to the original because it is a sequel. To continue the plot of the first requires a suspension of disbelief and I commend Valve for trying to do this without just making another HL like Quake 2 + 3, or Duke Nukem 2 + 3, or Doom 2 + 3. And, keep in mind, in HL2, the human race is being shipped off into containers for genocide - it's hard for players to identify with people/characters whose lives are completely broken and destroyed.

The first time I played "Follow Freeman", I tried like HELL to keep all my guys alive. And yes, the human-NPC interaction could be improved in the sense that the followers need to be more "character" driven. However, in the Lost Coast demo, the old guy at the bottom delivered. So it can be done.

Honestly, at times I believed that HL2 was an advertisement of "Look at our ####ing cool engine", but mostly I had goosebumps and grins through it. I've played both HL1 and HL2 several times: I usually quit HL1 as soon as I get to the alien worlds (boring), but HL2 I go all the way. I wish there was much more and I plan to shell out $20 for the next installment.
