i ordered a Dell 600M (cousin to your D600) and the build quality is very good. I don't know what the complaining by other posters is about. Might be older Dell's, but i can ensure you their line has improved. And they aren't all heavy and clunky.. the 600m/D600 only weighs about 5lbs.
I work with Compaq's (80%) and IBM's (20%) at work and the IBM's are nothing special, i don't like the feel of them (T20, T21, T22, T23, X20) they just don't do it for me. Plus they are outrageously expensive. Compaqs are nice, i was looking at the EVO N620c but it was just too expensive. Apple's are too expensive. Toshiba's are too expensive. Dell is the best value, i got a fully loaded laptop (P-M 1.3ghz, 768mb DDR Ram, 40gig hd, Radeon-M 9000 64mb, a/b/g wireless) for a really good price.
Wow, sounds like a lot of slashdotters haven't heard of the new Centrino platform.
I just ordered a Dell 600m:
Comes with a Pentium-M 1.3ghz which in quite a few benchmarks runs faster than a desktop Pentium 4 2.4ghz. Has 64KB of L1 Cache, 1mb of L2 Cache and is very optimized for mobile use. Also runs very cool. The laptop only weighs about 5lbs and is very much a desktop replacement if you want it to be.
here is what i don't understand.. assuming Ep. 3 is going to be the movie standard 2 hours in length.. and these 20 short clips add up to almost an hour.. why not just lengthen Episode 3 to three hours ? you kill two birds with one stone.
with all the recent 3 hour movies, you won't hear too many complaints about the length (unless the movie will suck)
I wonder if Microsoft considers this good PR. Why? because when they start heavily pushing.NET and their Palladium plan, they will use examples such as these worms as to why everyone must go on a platform where Microsoft must authorize every piece of software and every piece of hardware to work with it.
((1) They switched Darrens Look closely and you'll notice the human member of their party is played by two different actors at different points of the movie (it takes a sharp eye to notice, but one of them has red hair, one black).))
first off, there are 2 human members, be specific who you are talking about. What the heck is a "Darren"? What scene are you referring to?
((2) Violence Give me one reason that story couldn't have been told without all the fighting.))
You can say the exact same thing about Star Wars. The book was written a long time ago (50's).. how is anyone suppose to answer you.. why was their violence? why is thir violence in any book or movie?
((3) I'll have to rent that one The rushed-through story the screenwriter threw in as the first ten minutes of Fellowship of the Ring looked a lot more interesting than the movie we were forced to watch. Why didn't somebody make a movie off that instead?))
You weren't forced to watch anything..
((4) Magic Mechanics Experts on the occult say in order for a wizard to floorspin a fully-grown man like Gandalf, he'd need three magical staffs, not two.))
Ill agree that this was a stupid scene and it doesn't happen in the book.. Peter Jackson decided to invent a new way Wizards fight eachother.
((5) Racism Percentage of protagonists in Fellowship who are white: 100. Meanwhile the black antagonists and their black crow spies and their black glass seeing ball inhabit their black towers and perform black magic. Gosh, I wonder if there's some symbolism there?))
You can blame Peter Jackson for that thought.. Although reading the book might give you that idea.. its up to your own interpretation.. Tolkien never says all Elves are white, and all humans are white.. its just assumed.
a Samsung 40 gig.. Samsung is far from a reputable HD company, not to mention they didn't mention RPM's.. which ill assume is 5400rpm. Only 128mb of RAM? and its shared with onboard video ? hahahaha. a MicroATX motherboard? wow, forget upgrading. Microstar, another not too reputable manufacturer.. integrated crap.
ok, so we don't have to pay for the microsoft tax... thats all well and good. How much do we save?
i see $799 for a P4 based system, no monitor (that could be $150-300), possibly a no name motherboard, possibly generic ram (and only 256mb), probably a slow 5400rpm hd.
am i saving anything? i could build a computer with much better specs with the same money. Maybe if they cut the MS tax AND didn't try to ream the customers with the amount of profit they want to make, then it'd be a good deal.
if someone can learn how to use/install linux on a pc, they can also learn how to build their own PC. I applaud the effort by walmart, but after that snazzy processor they mention i have no doubt there is a no name motherboard, crappy generic ram, a slow 5400rpm hd, etc.
Build your own, you will feel better in the morning:)
but ATI has two cards coming out soon.. an 8500XT (not sure if they will call it that) that will have 128mb of ram and run at 300 core and 300 memory.
and the Radeon 8800 which is based on the R250 core which is a die shrunk R200 (8500) and will having 128mb of memory and run at 350 core and 350 memory..
the first card i mentioned should be out very soon.. and the second card i mentioned should be out early summer.
Nvidia will probably have a Geforce 5 out by the fall.. and ATI will match it with their new R300 core.
See i was thinking if GL ever wanted to make Episode 7,8,9 he'd have to CG Luke, Han, and Leia as they are way too old to play the roles now, and you *cannot* trying making 7,8,9 with other actors:)
you don't have much effect over how secured a Cable/DSL router is.. i have a Netgear RT314 and the most i can do is a bit of configuration and some firmware updates..
or is this spefically bigger routers used by companies?

1. XBox was originally designed to use an Athlon. Politics dictated that the PIII would be used in the end.
or maybe they didn't want to have stability problems with the chip (athlon) overheating ?
2. The PIII is at the end of its life, the Athlon has at least another 18 months ahead of it.
wrong.. the new PIII Tualatin is due to come out shortly...13 microns, 256kb, 512kb+ cache. New enhancments. Starting at 1.13, and 1.26, PIII's are far from dead.. maybe the Coppermine core will stop at 1.13 (they are reintroducing these with the latest stepping btw).. But like AMD and its Palamino.. Intel is extending the life of the PIII with the Tualatin
3. The PIII cannot take advantage of this chipset at all.
Single PIII's have shown no significant improvment with DDR.. but Dual PIII's have.. this
using an Iwill DVD-266R and Dual PIII 1ghz CPU's showed 15-20% improvement over similar setup SDR boards
4a. Intel might have given P4 licenses to the slow chipset makers (ALi, SiS) which won't compete with Intel, but look at what is happening within Intel with regard to VIAs high-performance P4X chipset!
ugh.. i just wish VIA would go away.. The day they make a good overall chipset.. is the day Microsoft will make all their software open source
im sure AMD will counter the price drop, with a drop of their own.
I don't understand why people are hating on the P4.. If intel wasn't around AMD wouldn't have had the need to make such a great processor. The P4 is no slouch either.. ive seen a site where a Japanese dude o/ced his 1.7 to 2.5 with liquid nitro =D.. T-birds are close to hitting a wall.. probably around 1.5/1.6... and no im not an Intel only fan.. i like the best out there.. i don't go for a certain brand.
yah exactly.. i mean look at the Olympics they only have 19 million people (i just checked CIA world fact book =p) and they had so many medals i think top 5 or so in the world.
err sorry for all the grammer mistakes, should have looked more like:
you are limited to the amount of RAM you can have.. if you have a Raid setup of SSD's you can have like 32 gigs or something like that. While you can't have 32 gigs of RAM. So whoever can afford $50,000+ USD for a 3.2 gig Quantum Rushmore can also afford 10 of them =)

Does this mean they'll include music in those damn CD's they keep sending me?
if i had mod points, id have modded your post up.

forget this bug.. how about Adobe fixes the bug when you shut it down it stays in memory.
ive got the latest version, and it happens on all my computers at home and work.
bah!

X-Bit was down all morning... I had assumed it was being slashdotted... only to find out the link was just posted.
If non-Slashdotted traffic can bring down their site.. god help them now.

ok.. lame joke.. sorry
and thats why having a nice firewall that blocks programs from outbound transmission is crucial.

ATi has a new card coming with the R250 (summer), and R300 (fall) that will compete (and possibly surpass the GF4)...
..
saying a GF4 beats an 8500 isn't news.. it *should* beat it.. 8500 was brought in to take on the GF3 TI500 and does

Yah the Quantum Rushmore.. the 3.2gig unit is like $54,000 USD ... thats insane! =p but still awesome drives
You do realize Australia has only 10 million people right? and what does english speaking have to do with anything?
