VRML is a good idea but it lacks a good rendering engine (because no ones done it) if you could take the quake 3 and rid it of the violence and killing use the physics and graphics engines to create an environment that users can walk around and interact with one another where you can somewhat easily create a custom avatar, hell you could integrate it w/ quake, have a room you enter and suddenly your in a battle and can go around killing one another, I dunno if one could make a q3 mod that would be able to 'link' to other sites using portals and display text in some sort of floating paper.
I'm just throwing out my incoherent thoughts been up too long and just want throw out some ideas as I am a big advocate of VRML and have done quite a lot of modeling id love to see some kinda of 3D cyberspace, any one read snow crash? Yea that type of stuff is out their on the web but its not immerseive nor can it handle 'doing something' to a regular HTML file if you are surfing along and hit one you cant expect everyone to rewrite every web page to support a new way.
I remember something for Mac's a few years back apple was developing called hot sauce or something similar to it that would allow one to browse the web in 3D I was working on a similar project at the time to allow 3D exploration of ones file system on Mac's using that system I'll see if I can any other info on it and post it later
I mean this as an real question not as a smart ass or anything else how do you find a pager? w/ pagers the tower send and the pager gets no sending just getting???
With SCSI depending on a few thing but for the most part you can use more devices per connector 4 vs. 2 and the devices still can communicate with each other faster cause they can do it directly rather than wait for the CPU... and yes DMA does the same thing but i have had problems with it in NT (non-existent) and under win2k
We had filtering software for anything accessed... the filtering software wouldn't let me go to site on a topic I was researching for English class it happened to be cyber terrorism and someone else was reporting on the Wiccian (sp?) values and beliefs which was also filtered out and in all the times we were allowed to go to the library during the school hrs to work on it we had to sit around and do nothing because every thing was blocked, pages on the DOJ web site were being blocked because of what it mentioned... and we could still hit whitehouse.com and many other porn site, when myself and friend tried using a proxy and web forwarding pages we both were taken to the main office for trying to bypass the web filtering software
This isn't meant as a troll but does it greatly increases mem and processor usage so everything runs slowly i had that problem w/ gnome and anti aliasing fonts on a 500mHz w/ 128 ram so what use is it for average users not everyone has a 1.2 athlon w/ 512 ram... yea its good to offer but is it fast???

It is getting there actually in Russia their are tying this with a infrared sensors that will detect movement and make an ATM that you don't need to actually touch if I find the link I'll post it or if any one knows anything else about it I'm going on memory
you can pay me to put cool stuff together for you i will set up linux or do all that 'hard' stuff to get cool stuff to work so you dont have to actually know or care how the technology works
I work in the Network Operations Center at one type of mission critical facility and most of our servers are Linux and Unix variants while these were fine we were still hit w/ code red (all the win2k desktops) bogged down everything our DNS servers were getting around 10,000 hits/hr (a lot for our internal servers) and all the extra traffic (probing for other IIS boxes) brought stuff down cause nothing could communicate over the network for about 12 min we pulled the plug on router that connects everything to the servers so that the servers could still communicate that started patching machines we lost about 12 min of productivity and another day of patching desktops. Luckily it happened around 8:00PM right as I was getting ready to leave so I was right they to pull the plug to separate the networks and than we called people in and started patching the win2k boxes
Ok as of right now the price is $360 and the reserve is not yet met... i seem to recall going to a charity auction before and usually what ever it sells for is what goes to charity... also WTF is the reserve on a 50lb chunk of butter (even if its a wonderful sculpture of a palm) this is not something that you can pass on to your grandchildren.
This vulnerability decreases the time for a dictionary search by about a factor of fifty. Congrats to the researchers for exposing this weakness.
but how long does it take to run the attack if it is 4x what it would have to do the dic attack but after 2 days of watching the typist we can not take a day off a dict attack.... that would have taken 2 days total.... now we have spent 3 days... for something to cut our 2 days in half....wow!
hey maybe they do get attacked alot... but a dos attack from a couple of cable modem users is tought to take down a web site being hosted on a fairly fast line... i think a few ds3 lines, may be an oc3 line lines im not sure so dont quote me and i hate to say it but you can create a secure envrioment even with a NT4.0 or win2k if you have people that know what their doing. as we have seen even a 'secure' os like linux can be hacked if it is set up and something is left open
but back to the point M$ gets attacked but they just happen to be fairly good at setting up a firewall

could it possibally be that your ips may just be bogged down or that other people may be accessing the same sites as you (gasp!!) the internet may not resolve around you the answer to every thing is not that its being hacked or dos'ed or even cracked
its just a medium just casue its fiber dosent mean that it is piped in to the backbone of the internet. The fiber is just a high capacity line used to transfer the data (your voice)
Dialing up defeats the purpose of this in the first place....
