Yeah, everyone on/. says Apple is so great. But they just rip stuff off from the open source community. When is Apple going to give something back?
Well, there's Darwin, their (improved, IMnsHO) version of BSD.
Rendezvous is their (improved) version of ZeroConf.
Safari runs on the KHTML engine. Apple made some improvements and gave them back to the KHTML people, who thanked and praised Apple.
They've worked to improve gcc on PPC-based compilers.
They also provide the standard tools like apache, perl, python, etc etc etc, with OS X. I don't know if they have worked on these specifically, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Why do you believe music is a global art when poetry, literature, and even cinema isn't?
Movies (at least a lot of American animation and action-type movies) are largely global. Television certainly is; wasn't "Mannix" shown in over 150 countries at one point? Anyway, poetry and literature don't always translate, even within their own language, but a John Lee Hooker boogie beat can be understood by anybody. Well, not Ivy Leaguers, of course, but anybody with a pulse.
I am pretty sure most employees would be ok with ZERO pay raises if cost of living increases (i.e. inflation) is somehow accounted for...
As someone who grew up in a union house in a union town, I can say that you are WRONG, sir! What everyone wants is more more more for less less less. Understand this and human behavior suddenly becomes lucid.
Ah, but more carbon dioxide encourages the growth of forests and plankton. Keep in mind that the US east of the Mississippi was twice as forested in 1990 as it was in 1900. That's the most heavily populated area of the country, during a time of tremendous population growth and blow-out urban sprawl.
Also, more plankton leads to more krill leads to more whales. Greenpeace is against this? Besides, all our energy comes from either the sun or radioactive decay. Ultimately, it's all nuclear.
You can't fit into Japanese midsize cars but you fit in a German compact?
Yep, it's strange, I admit. I was trying some Japanese mid-sized cars and they were tight fits, not very comfortable. A coworker, who is my height, suggested a VW Beetle; a friend of his has one and it has a bunch of room. I had an old Beetle way back in high school, so mostly out of nostalgia I drove one. While at the dealership, I also tried the Golf, Passat, etc. The Golf has a lot of room, more than the Passat.
Here (Indianapolis) it's about $1.70, the same as unleaded. And I am getting about 43-45 MPG in actual driving, so even if diesel is more expensive per gallon, it's cheaper overall. Admittedly, a lot of my driving is on the interstate to and from work, but still...
Sorry, I should have been more clear. The Golf is a compact, the '04 Prius is considered a mid-size. I can get in and out of the Golf no problem, and it has plenty of room. It's damn near as wide as my GMC Sonoma pickup.
The Prius, though, was not built for a Midwesterner descended from northern Europeans. (I'm 6'3" and descended from peasant stock, FWIW.)
Last summer I was looking for a new car with really good mileage and went with a VW Golf TDI over the hybrids. There were several reasons for this (among them, I can't fit into Japanese mid-size cars, but those built for Germans are fine... go figure).
The diesel in the VW is proven technology, but I was also worried about how the hybrids would be in an accident. Plus, the Golf TDI runs like an NBA player from his kids' wives. I know it will go 125MPH, but I was still accelerating when I decided to back off.
The one thing I heard, and I can neither confirm nor deny this, was that 10.2 was named Jaguar because a jaguar can kill a longhorn with one bite. After that, they've kept up the cat names, and if they aren't careful, it might lead to dancing.

Uh, use the thing?

Do you realize what you just said?
Well, I am offended at your offense. In fact, I am offended by my being offended at your offense.
"I've got to quit sniffing this Ajax."
that's gotta be one of the worst ways to die.
Oh, there are quite a few that are far worse, but the FCC would fine me $495,000 for mentioning them.
Also, more plankton leads to more krill leads to more whales. Greenpeace is against this? Besides, all our energy comes from either the sun or radioactive decay. Ultimately, it's all nuclear.
Insert standard government, SCO, Hollywood, and pop music jokes here.
You had forgotten? Oh, sorry; here, have some lithium.
(Most of my driving is highway, but I drive like Rosie O'Donnell chasing a Twinkie truck.)
Why? That would be like back-engineering a horse-drawn cart.
"I could never get my socks off."

God only knows what would have happened to me in jail. I mean, Micheal Jackson's from Gary, fer cryin' out loud!

I suppose we won't see Tony being the mascot, will we?
Not while there's a breath in my body, you won't.
Yours sincerely,
