Hang on, the basic design was the problem, not politics. Read the article, they could never get the multiple engines under adequate control. Now think of the size and cost of those things, it had to be a major commitment to even get the first one built. To get a project that big, cancelled, is a disaster in any ideology.

Lets not forget the US disasters, which also seem to be engineering based. The idea of having a pure oxygen atmosphere, had to be dropped in the end, despite the fact that it meant going back to the drawing board.

Why does so much of discussion about subjects like this have to come down to politics? They are people too, who make good and bad design desicions and try to live their lives the best they can in the given constraints.

Lets not forget, the ISS is a long way behind schedule, over budget, and experiencing plenty of its own teething problems. The so-called CMM level 5 NASA hadn't even tested the robotic arm on the space shuttle to see if it could turn a full circle. The USSR was first to put a man in space and a satellite in space.

Consider this, (and it especially pertinent to this article). We put ice in a glass of water to keep the water cool. As the ice melts, the temperature in the glass stays relatively stable. Once the ice has finished melting, it shoots up very quickly. Apart from that, why do I have to put up with a heap of stinking smoke being put out by gas guzzling cars that are capable of going faster than the speed limit and weigh far more than is neccessary to do their actual job, of just transporting someone from point a to point b. Smoking bans that have been coming in make me wonder why we ever put up with smoking in public facilities anyway.

I don't know about you, but just because people can live in the Gobi desert, is now reason for me to. I have a friend who is doing active, responsible research into the greenhouse effect, and he has no time for b***t from either side. The reactionaries don't want anything to challenge their wealth, and the doomsday greenies who need to look at being more reasonable. Either way, greenhouse is real, it is just a matter of working out what the effects will be. At present, the sea levels are rising at a rate of 3mm per year, and may inundate low level islands etc when there are storms. This rate may or may not increase. Since a by product of greenhouse is the increase of storm activity, this is a real concern for many people.

Despite the desire for much of capitalism to ignore greenhouse, one part of it cannot, and that is the insurance industry. Many parts of the world are now finding themselves uninsurable. This would include parts of Florida, except that the (conservative) Government is compelling them to provide insurance in these areas.

There are any number of b***t web sites out there, such as OISM, that accuse the greenies of pushing an agenda, but appear to be totally unaware of the agenda they are pushing.

Without ever bluntly stating it, but openly implying it, much of the opposition to greenhouse action and research is being pushed by conservative Christians who believe the bible literally insructs us to do whatever we think gives us pleasure to this earth. There may be some crackpot greenies out there, but at least they care about the earth, as opposed to crackpot Christians who think it is our plaything to use as we want till we die and go to heaven. (I think the second coming should be here just about any day now).

The final point I would like to make is the so called cost of greenhouse. Whatever price it will be, it will be a fraction of what the world spends on arms, for the ultimate aim just allowing us to kill each other.

For god knows what reason, it has not been applied, but your puny little brain fails to appreciate what is readily apparent and obvious to 99.99% of /. readers.

Given that most readers ignore the ability to exploit such a simple and fixable bug, one can only conclude that you have nothing better to do than produce the equivalent of a new born infant playing in his own shit. If that is amuses you, it is also obvious it only amuses you and and slowly growing band of like minded individuals. A guaranteed way to stuff up a system. If I could afford to get rid of it I would. I even bought a cheap Intel motherboard that seemed to be perfect, until I found out about this little chip called the MTH. Back to the abit and pulling out the power cord every time I turn it off.

This show is still just a show, using all the contrived plot devices I have seen in the past 40 years. Lets go through the weaknesses one by one.
    1. The old, I've just got one of these new gadgets, and it just happens to be the gadget that solves this weeks case routine.
    2. The old 'Just the facts maam' routine, and then ignore the facts.
    3. The old, we can only afford a few extras per show, so it can only be one of these three characters, usually the most improbable one routine.
    4. The old 'this is called csi' so everything is solved by us show routine.
    5. The old 'we don't actually follow police procedure at all show', routine, so we get to see lab scientists interviewing suspects routine.
    6. The old 'Hey, I found a hair/button/piece of crap on the floor here' routine, which just happens to be the clue that solves the crime. I don't know about you, but last time I looked at my floor, there was more than just ONE hair on it.
    7. The old 'I'll just do a test for blood', and whoa, there it is routine.
    8. And finally, the 'I just killed someone, so I'll admit to it cause its a fair cop', routine. Haven't any of these people ever heard of a lawyer?

What ever happenned to cop shows that aren't so straight forward. I can't understand a word they say on nypd blue, except for 'anyways', but at least things aren't that straight forward, and people are pretty mixed up too. Or 'The Sweeney', may he rest in peace. Or 'Twin Peaks', now they were my kind of people, and didn't that take a bit of detective work to solve.

Yes, the series called 'Royal Family', is still on and going strong. Prince Charles, after the death of his Princess Bride, has married the woman he stole and had a secret affair with. Prince Harry is rumoured to be gay, and has been caught smoking pot. The Queen won't step down because she thinks Charles is a total dill. Fergie, after blowing $2000 a day on fresh cut flowers, has to ask mummy for cash in between sucking millionaire bankers toes. It just goes on and on, with no hint of ending.

Also, check out the 'Royle Family'. TV that only the Brits could think up. It is a situation comedy in which the characters seem to spend most of their time watching TV, unlike all other TV series where no one partakes of the Western World's most popular pastime.
