I suppose I would qualify as a Cyborg; I am hearing-impaired and have a Cochlear Implant. Social-wise, it's kind of a mixed bag. On one side of the coin, people in general are fascinated by the prospect of restoring hearing that was lost and the very idea of having a biological implant in my head. On the other side, however, the Deaf community generally shuns them as their equivalent of "tools of Satan." I feel that in the decades, even centuries, to come, such divisions will stil exist on this topic. It's unavoidable today and will be unavoidable tomorrow.
Yamauchi Kazunori is the poster's name. My vocab is nonexistent but I know "Yama" means mountain. And Yamauchi is the family name, Kazunori the personal name. I assume his friends shorten it to Kazu-kun (or san, or whatever honorific applies.
And in incompatible browsers, it'll just show the individual parts of the Unicode character (usually some accented vowels and stuff like that.) IE's pretty good about it.
I had a cochlear implant put in 4 years ago and I kind of wish we had that technology for it then... It kind of sucks not being able to use some diagnostic tools. When I first got my implant, I was given a card that specifically excludes me from getting a MRI with a strength of one tesla or more and that if I needed one, I would have to have the magnetic portion taken out surgically.
This posting's been here for quite a while but nobody has mentioned the classic Scary Movie scene where they have a pissing contest in the bathroom in the movie theater, reminescent (sp?) of that old carnival game with the water gun and the thingy that raises whenever you hit it.
I agree wholeheartedly. A DLP with S-Video, Composite, VGA and BNC input will cost just a couple of thousand dollars (USD). Like this fellow said, though, you'd need a computer or a tuner connected to it to be able to switch channels. If you have Digital Cable service in your area along with HDTV support, you could theoretically plug that into the projector just fine. A ceiling-mount projector would be excellent too.

LCD Price Fixing?

That's invalid. SCSI requires strenuous testing because of its complexity and the fact that SCSI drives have a speed of 10,000RPM. There's a reason why SCSI is rated at 1,000,000 hours & 5 year reliability while IDE is designed for 300,000 hours and 3 years reliability. There's also a million other reasons which I won't go into.
I do think that there's some funny business going on with the LCDs though.
...damn. That's some hot chick wearing that Sisley bikini. I've heard of bikinis being smaller than their price tags, but that might just be smaller than their RFID tags!
To be honest, I think the whole "Playstation 3" thing being released in 2003 is bull. I mean, think about it... The Playstation 2 was released with a LOT of fanfare. It was announced 2 years before, pictures of the unit a year before... If this is indeed true, I would be deeply surprised. Sony's famous for it's marketing and hype machine.
I would know, I fell victim to the hype. I wanted one so bad that I wanted to trade my left nut for it.;)
(Thankfully that didn't happen as I was cheated out of a PS2 at Walmart, although I was able to pick a used one up a few months later for $125. Don't ask.)
Oh I forgot to mention, my best friend told me a story that last year, the guy was taking bribes to allow porn sites through the filter. He was caught. According to him, he was arrested and charged with felony and got a pretty stiff sentence. So don't do it, folks!
My best friend's university down in West Palm Beach, Florida (which happens to be a Christian school) has a filter that works like that. An upperclassman is hired to review sites and update the "allow" list. There's a 2-day waiting period for each site to review, and it's pretty much an effective system. It does frustrate me though, since most of the sites I visit are blocked (And no, they're not porn sites or anything like that.:P)
who cares. almost any company would rather pay you for one days work, then to hire a lawyer for at least a week. you, on the other hand, can simply defend yourself. it costs nothing, and you have the free time, since you are unemployed.
You know what they say... A person who defends himself in court has a fool for a client.
Hmm... Well, I guess it's just crappy setup. I found out last Sunday that more than half of the computers in the building where I used the SGI machines are either: Overloaded with viruses, have KaZaA on them, or filled up with so much porn. (It's an engineering building on the campus of a college I won't name.) So yup, the machines were probably poorly set up.
Not to mention that IRIX is one of the worst OSes I've had the displeasure of using. It may be UNIX-based, but it's crashed so much on a SGI O2 workstation and it's pretty easy to screw something over so bad that you'd need to reinstall the OS. I say go for the Dual G4 macs with dual Apple Studio Cinema Displays. You won't be sorry.
That happened to my laptop. You're right, it's no fun. It was really expensive to replace, since Dell refused to cover it under the warranty. One of my main concerns about LCD displays is the fragility of the glass panes inside the LCD...
That happend to me around Midnight on Monday. I shut off the "Messenger" service in WinXP (although 2k has the same service) and I still had NetBIOS running without getting network popups (who uses them anyways?)
Hope this helps.
P.S. The "Messenger" service in the Services list has nothing to do with Windows/MSN Messenger, so please don't confuse the two. ^_^
I've been visiting Slashdot religiously for three years, ever since I saw a co-worker of mine reading it. I thought the news headlines seemed interesting so I got into it too, and now I'm addicted to Slashdot. Thank you, Mr. Malda and the other folks behind the scenes, for setting up one of the best news sites out there.
Okay, this is funny.:) That's actually Windows XP, ladies and gentlemen. I downloaded the fragment of the ISO and opened it with Winimage. I got the directory tree with WinXP files in it. Nice job. >:P
Also... I suspect that it is actually Rhapsody Developer's Release 2. Some of you may remember that Rhapsody was an x86 port of MacOSX Server but was canned after Developer's Release 2.
I've got a news flash for you. Linux has as many security holes as Windows. I mean, 100% perfectly secure code is impossible. At least Microsoft makes an effort to get the holes repaired and got the patches out to consumers right away. I'm pretty sick of the linux elitists who think Microsoft "sucks" just because they release patches more often than the Linux development group.
Well, I know of 4 anime-related things in Brevard County (Space coast) Florida.
1) Anime Pavilion and Comics - Located in Melbourne, at the shopping center on the intersection of NASA Blvd. and Babcock St. (The shopping center where Makoto's is). They offer anime viewings every Tuesdays at 8:00pm to whenever everybody leaves. 2) Islander Comics and Cards - Located in Merritt Island on Route 3 (Courtenay Parkway) just north of Merritt Island High School. Offers anime viewing every Friday night beginning at 8:00pm. 3) Oukyuu Anime Club - Meets at random locations every Saturday evening and shows basically any kind of anime (even hentai!). To sign up, go to http://www10.brinkster.com/oukyuuanime. It's mainly headquartered in Melbourne, but we sometimes meet in Palm Bay. 4) Florida Institute of Technology Anime Club - During the semester, we meet every Thursday night at 8:00pm in Room 137 of the Olin Engineering Complex. First half-hour or so is about club-related events, then after that we watch anime. You do not have to be a Florida Tech student to show up.
There are probably a few more frequent anime events, but I'm not too sure. Also, it wouldn't hurt to attend conventions. For example, Jacon, Megacon, FITCON, Anime Express, Anime Festival Orlando, etc. They usually have extended anime showings and last until the con closes for the night. Oh and, if you're a big time cosplayer, you should consider attending the Cosplay Summer Camp (Read more).
Very good points that s20451 made.

I can just imagine Chicken Little running around with a little yo-yo going "THE SKY IS RISING! THE SKY IS RISING!" :P
Just imagine a beowulf cluster of christmas lights! ...Oh wait, we do that all the time.

Hmm, Linux on a Microsoft console? Now THAT'S irony at it's finest. I say let's do it. :)
What's next, the Freestyle thingy they've always talked about?
