  1. Vocational Rehabilitation on Note Taking Devices for Students? · · Score: 5, Informative

Assuming you're in the US, each state has a Voc Rehab department which provides funding for the disabled going to college. They pay for the entire tuition for me, and my books as well. Sounds like she has a fully qualifying disablity, so VR should be able to buy her a laptop. They did buy me one too, and it was $1800. Just find a VR office in your area and arrange a meeting with the counselor. Also bring proof (doctor's note, records, etc.) of the disability.

Well, to make a correction... For the sidekick data only plan (unlimited megabytes, SMSes, email, etc.) is $30 a month. Although, you will have to pay 20 cents a minute for voice calls. However if you want to have a voice plan, then yes, it's only $20 a month extra on top of your voice plan. Just clarifying it for you. ^_^

I own a Sidekick from T-Mobile, the color version. I bought it a couple of weeks ago because I wanted a way to contact/be contacted since I can't hear. It's such a great device but man, the antenna sucks. I get NO signal within my house, only in the outer parts. I really hope they improved that defect. But I gotta say, that device looks fugly compared to mine: Picture here.

  6. 2000 Altima on EPA Fuel Economy Myth: Too High, Too Low? · · Score: 1

This is why I'm excited about the upcoming 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid. Nice, big beautiful car that's more efficient. :) Mmm...

  12. Scientific Atlanta 8000 from Brighthouse CFL on Clones Are Overwhelming TiVo · · Score: 3, Interesting

I currently subscribe to the DVR service from Brighthouse here in Central Florida; which uses the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000. I have been blessed with the Passport software as opposed to the rather buggy SARA, and even though it may not have the advanced features TiVo has like being able to intuitively record programs (I don't really see the point anyway, I record what I want to watch) and searching for a show name by inputting the first few letters (currently I have to go through a whole list of shows in alphabetical orders and with 500 channels, it can get mighty long!) I love the box dearly and it's totally worth the extra $7 a month. However, it can be unstable at times, due to it's sensitivity with signal quality. If the cable company started offering TiVo itself for something like $15, I would definitely get it.

I can't help but wonder if that's the path TiVo themselves will have to take in order to survive. We'll see.

Every so often, one will hear the phrase "I am a pen." especially when dealing with younger Japanese. From what I understand, it's the first thing the English teachers teach the students. Even though the sentence itself is nonsencial and silly, it has a very clear structure and helps students to understand the very basic grammar.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Personally, I view it as a bit of hypocrisy in that they generally don't shun people with good old hearing aids (They are merely sound amplifiers that go in your ear canal, no surgery needed) and in some cases, it helps almost as much as a cochlear implant (Not always so for some people, it varies with their type of deafness.) But our world is full of hypocrisy to begin with. It's sad but that's my reality and I have to live with it.
