Incorrect. If a copyright holder says, "You may use my copyrighted works under these conditions..." that means that unless you use that work under those conditions than you do not have the right to use the work at all. This does not mean that one can simply ignore the wishes of the copyright holder so long as they pay up. If the copyright holder does not allow you to use a work, then you can not use it, regardless of how much money you're willing to pay.
heh, mark the parent as flamebait all you want but it's probably true given the fact that mplayer relies on reverse engineering to play codecs they haven't licensed (which is all of them as far as I know). So some of the devs are checking out the KISS rom maybe looking to add updates to mplayer's DVD code or whatnot and in the process realize that it's already using mplayer code. Seems like a very likely scenerio.
Good lord people. This book is complete fiction. Any "history" revealed in this book is engineered to either support the plot of this fiction novel or to just be something that the reader will hopefully find interesting. Is fiction really that difficult of a concept to understand? To clearify, it is a fiction novel, which means he is going to make up the whole damn thing. If he happened to base any part of this book on some sort of actual research then he is already going above and beyond his call of duty as a fiction writer -- that does not turn this fiction novel into a history book.
Ripping on the historical inaccuracies of this fiction novel makes about as much sense as a physicist ripping on the scientific inaccuracies of The Lord of The Rings novels. When you open up a fiction novel you should start reading with the expectation that every word of it, cover to cover, is completely made up with the intent of entertaining you. Regardless of whether or not any part of the book happens to be inspired by any sort of research.
I'm so tired of hearing people bitch about this book. I can't wait for this guy's next article "Dismantling The Cat in The Hat".
Well if you were to take into account the claim by a certain number of conservatives that all the media is liberal. And another claim by a certain amount of conservatives that FOX is either "fair and balanced" or conservative, then it would only make sense that they have the highest ratings. You see, assuming this is all true, then all of the liberals would be split between 5-6 other networks. So if there are 1,000 people, and 500 of them are liberal, and 500 of them are conservative, those 500 liberals are going to be split between the 5 "liberal" news networks. Leaving about 100 viewers per network. While the conservative viewers are going to choose the "fair and balanced" news network, which, according to some conservatives, is only FOX News. Which means 500 viewers for FOX news.:)
While there is certainly some truth to that, if it were truely the case than all of the things you have mentioned with indeed be legal for the purposes of taxing them.
Wouldn't this be a little like shooting themselves in the foot considering how they make their money? You'd think they'd want as many script kiddies and viruses out there as possible as that would increase demand for their products and services.
AOL blocks e-mail from servers that come from the mail servers of customers that use comcast, AT&T BroadBand, RoadRunner, and other broadband companies. I guess spammers were just setting up broadband accounts and spamming from them. Which is probably better than just exploiting insecure mail servers of unsuspecting victoms. But never the less, it has nothing to do with any sort of "email attack" or the like.
I thought the same way until I was making my own Linux distro with the Linux From Scratch project and noticed that almost every other file apart from the Linux kernel itself is GNU.

Why not just capture the video signal as it is going to the monitor, the way a VCR is able to intercept a video signal going to the TV. And from there have the recording device record the video.
Well, I looked at the link and according to it Al Gore would have one if the recount process was allowed to continue (according to your source). http://www.nytimes.com/images/2001/11/12/politics/ recount/results/A2B1C1.html
"they can't block the TV and still provide the broadband"
Actually they come and put a filter on your line that blocks the video signal.

Quebec isn't the only place in North America where English is not the language ;)

Sounds like the name of an STD.
Ah, I see. So it's a good thing as long as you agree with the cause.
So heroin is legal in Illinios? Interesting.

Just as 640KB used to be enough for everyone.
He actually denies ever saying that.
The adaptive spam filtering works great for me. :)

Why do they insist on making that page look like something out of the communist revolution?

Well it was more than likely sold in smaller quanities to many people.

What does that have to do with Novell?

(Talk about one of your all time backfires, eh?)
"Bush would have won using Gore's rules for a recount. Bush would have won using anyones rules for a recount."
I guess we'll never know huh?
That may be so, but TightVNC's compression adds a lot more overhead, which causes it to be slower and choppier.
