I buy plenty of stuff through pricewatch, and with only one exception have I ever had a problem. If you're scared about the reputation of a company go here: http://www.resellerratings.com/ Check out what other people have said about a certain place you're about to buy something from. Also, pricewatch does have feedback where you can send a complaint about a reseller.
Humm, last I heard M$ was selling their operating system, now they're paying money for China to use it? So... the way I figure it, Microsoft should owe the school I go to at least $100,000 for making us use their software...
I've been thinking of getting a dvd writer drive as well, but decided to wait. Mainly because there's too many differences in the writers, there's dvd-r, dvd+rw, dvd-rw and so on... I donno, maybe some of those are the same format. I read a couple articles about how certain types are better than others and how one was supposed to have support for just read only (currently it's rw), then backed out of that, and so on. So I think it'd be better to wait till they got a format that was agreed upon by all. Otherwise it reminds me too much of the k56flex vs. X2. Besides, the longer you wait, the more favorable the price will be...
"He later found it had travelled down an access slope, through the front door of the centre and was eventually discovered at the main entrance to the car park when a visitor nearly flattened it with his car."
I don't think we need to worry about these robots till they figure out that an SUV would surly flatten them... although, those in GEOs might become easy robot prey....
Ok, who planed this for july 4th in San Diego? Yeah, sure it's a holiday and all... but you forgot one thing! Traffic! This is gonna be more like nerds meet... in traffic!
I learned from kindergarden (oh, and slashdot), like how you should share... oh wait... I guess they fine you for doing that now. Wow, if only they'd teach us what we 'should' do right in the first place...
I watched this video and found it quite interesting. One difference between this video and tom's video was the motherboard and chipset that was used, that could have something to do with the different outcomes. Tom used some motherboard I've never even seen before, I had to hunt the net to find info about it. The new amd video uses a motherboard with the amd 760 chipset.
My other issues against tom are the benchmarks that he uses now, compared to what he used to do. Last review I just remember seeing the bapco and quake3 tests. Which is interesting because of all the rumors that bapco and intel are the same company. Read here. Then the quake3 benchmarks... umm, wasn't that what the P4 was optimized for? I remember back when the K7's first came out and tom threw a barrage of tests at it... a good FPU one was the 3DStudio one (which I didn't see in the last test).
Lastly, I remember the massive intel ad banners on the site when Tom did the 2Ghz P4 review...
So in my eyes, Tom sold out and I don't trust his reviews anymore.
It didn't slow down the rendered FPS, my computer still thought it was getting the regular FPS. What it did slow down was the FPS that the monitor got. The game was so choppy it wasn't even worth playing.
One test that Tom didn't do is the Quake 3 test. I had purchased a KVM switch earlier this year and it worked ok. I decided to throw everything I could at it to try it out before I decided to keep it.
So I tried playing quake 3 on it, and the thing crawled. My usual 30-50fps from my geforce2 mx turned to about 3fps! So I packed the switch up and sent it back. Ever since that expierence I haven't been too willing to throw away more money on shipping costs to try out another KVM.
For the cost of a KVM switch, I think I'd rather just buy a $150 17" monitor, $10 keyboard, and $10 mouse. After all, that's all I'm using anyway.... no compatibility issues with that either.
Yeah, I went and got a IBM 75GXP, the 45gig one, model DTLA-307045, and it just failed last thursday. Very sad about that. I talked with the tech support guy who insisted that it was "just a coincidence" that the drive failed and that all sorts of other people I know have had theirs fail. My co-worker had a raid 5 running with 5 of the drives, and 2 of them have failed already. On that remark the IBM guy told me about the instabilities of a raid and how that was a coincidence. Then I told him about how I had seen some at work fail, and he told me that was just a coincidence. Oh, and somewhere along the line he blamed microsoft too.
The worst part is that when they replace the drive they replace it with the same model. So when I return this defective drive, I get the same bad model in return. I was thinking about just selling it on e-bay when I get it, but then felt sorry for whoever would buy it.
This was my very first IBM drive, all others are Maxtor. Of all the maxtor drives I've used, none have had any problems. I'm not gonna put any more of a plug on it than that, but yeah, the IBM 75GXP DTLA-307045 are crap. Supposedly it's that model that has all (or most) the problems.
Ok, let's see, now that congress is passing all these laws that make it ok for the government to read everyone's e-mail (carnivore) it really makes you think. Anthrax isn't that easy to come by from what I've heard (even though it does occur naturally), but government labs seem to have quite a bit of it. Considering all the rights people are giving up already we might as well just add this to the list. Seriously, this kinda stuff scares me more than the terrorists do.
So when you add everything up, we'll have armed military guards in the street to "keep the peace", we'll have flying video cameras to record our every move, our phone conversations can be tapped, and now they want to force everyone to use e-mail. So it seems that the government will be able to know your every move if they want to.
It wouldn't be hard to play off a terrorist thing in order to get political power over everyone. Hitler did the same thing. Those who don't learn from history are bound to repeat it they say, it's just too bad most people didn't learn.
I guess the media is too busy talking about what happened on tuesday to talk about what the government is doing to screw over it's own people. I guess getting coverage of congress singing and praying is better for ratings or something.
Seriously though, if I were a conspiracy person I might have the idea that the government had a hand in this in order to restrict on our freedoms (after all, isn't that what they like to do anyway??). It seems like the government is going to do much more harm to it's citizens than terrorists would. I guess it's time for the u.s. military to play terrorist next... although it'll be "good" according to the government. This whole thing just reminds me of a good old quote....

Please donate them to my community college (well, not mine, but the one I attend). Right now my group of 5 in the intermediate unix course is sharing a P100 with 16 megs of ram and a 1GB hard drive... it's horrible!
I asked if we were going to get new computers but the department head told me that there was a 2.1 billion dollar cut in funding to the community colleges. So basically we got the shaft because the governor had to pay the insane electric bills.
So please donate them to this college:

If not this college, then a community college near you would probably like it.
This one explains it all:
adobe \A*do"be\ ([.a]*d[=o]"b[asl]), n. [Sp.] An unburnt brick dried in the sun; also used as an adjective, as, an adobe house, in Texas or New Mexico.
So Texan and New Mexican brick makers should sue!
(Then we'd get a newsflash, Adobe joins forces with rambus to fight lawsuits)

It's like Terminator and the Matrix put together... just an early alpha version.

The ground doesn't feel cold... the air isn't very cold.... damn, would have thought there'd be more of a temperature change when hell froze over...
In the words of many anxious web surfers... also repeated often by kids...
Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
So now maybe the Rolling Stones zeppelin can watch for terrorists??
I'd be damn scared of those big ass lips too!
So what would they do, take a a picture of the card and watch all the 0's and 1's fly out?
Does the SE in the link stand for "Software error"? I think they have networks like that out now...
This isn't good, how's ET ever gonna phone home now???
