    Properly-designed transmission line does not radiate (much). This is primarily done by either running a balanced signal down two twisted conductors (twisted pair) or running an unbalanced signal inside a grounded shield (coax).

    So all we need is properly designed twisted-pair lamp cords and barbed wires.

    Perhaps in this case the marker is the space character they put in the word "outside":

    Wouldn't it be possible to record first and combine the signals later? For synchronization, instead of having a perfect clock you would look for known periodic signals from stars etc. Would that make sense?

    they are'nt designed to even look at the frequancies we want.

    Does this just lower the quality of the signal or is it impossible to receive a useful signal in the desired frequencies?

    If instead we tried on the frequencies that they are built for, would that be meaningless? Could such frequencies reach us?

    Would it be possible to use ordinary parabolic satellite TV antennas for radio telescopy? Could they be combined to create a huge radio telescope?

    If that's possible, maybe when people are not using their satellite antennas for TV they could be combined to create a world-wide radio telescope.

    I'm thinking of something along the ideas of SETI@home. There, the unused computer time of many people is combined for the SETI program. Maybe unused satellite TV antenna time could be combined in a similar way.

    To create a large and powerful telescope you combine several smaller telescopes. There is an enormous amount of unused TV antenna time. If ordinary satellite dishes are suitable for this purpose, you'd get an extremely powerful telescope.

    All Qwest is doing is telling you that they will be sharing meaningless information like wether or not you have Caller ID or (gasp) Touch-Tone Service installed WITH OTHER BRANCHES OF QWEST.

    From the original document (assuming it's correctly quoted on that page):

    Account information includes details about your service, such as [...] as well as calling and billing records. For toll calls that you are billed for, the information includes the number the call comes from, the number it goes to and how many minutes the call takes.

    So the information does include numbers their subscribers have called.

    I don't think anyone can fathom the Universe as it really is, but the attempt can be a wonderful experience.

    Most apartments come with your typical set of slat blinds. These are great until you try to watch a movie on your big screen at 5 pm and find the glare obscuring your view. The ideal apartment would have blinds capable of completely shutting out outside light sources.


    Buy roll-down curtains at IKEA. I think they have one that is completely black. Properly mounted it probably won't let in any light. Perfect for a home movie theater.

    Maybe they should make cell-phone cameras mandatory in cars, mounted so that the person at the other end can see out the front window and shut up when traffic situations arise.

    I once saw a driver, engrossed in a phone conversation, making amazingly stupid turns and moves back and forth in the middle of a large street crossing. If the other person had seen his manoeuvers I'm sure he or she would either shut up or say "What the hell are you doing?" Healthy.
