So why again does Bush and Cheney want the price of oil to rise? Last time I checked they no longer own any oil assets and would not personally profit for a rise or fall in oil... If they did, no doubt Congress would scream this fact for all to hear.....
Also, the Oil futures market is much larger than anything going on in Iraq. Oil is rising not because of anything Bush or Cheney or the US is doing, but rather because you have over 2 billion people slowing rising in the middle class in Asia. Not to mention that "easy" oil is getting increasing more difficult to find. The good side is that alternate energy sources are finally getting a chance to prosper and we should be in the next decade finally be able to break our dependence on middle eastern oil sources..
Finally, just for the record I am certainly no fan of Bush, but I also dislike thoughtless propoganda statements with no logical backing...
Exactly. This is our generations version of innovation. You come up with an idea and get a patent, but never really have any intention of ever producing anything.... I mean talk about sad..
Heck, why does he care how it works right yet?? If this guy is short on cash, why doesnt he start building motors and start selling them? Better yet, start making kits and sell them to slashdot people. Heck, I certainly would buy one just to play with it...
Good for Linus!! I didnt realize Linus had gotten a law degree now... This is kind of away from his core of expertise, but additional education is always good!!! I mean I would dont think it would not be wise for him to advise any company or person on such legal matters without significantly investigating the situation before hand...:)
How is this the next big thing when MS buying Yahoo shows how frustrated they are with their MSN Live initiative? Yes, I definitely think that buying Yahoo was a smart move at a great longterm price, but other than them building it directly into Vista 2.0, I dont see how much more good it will do them. The move was simply them "buying" marketshare in an attempt to trump Google. Considering that Yahoo has already shown that they cannot compete with Google, I suspect it will turn out just like the early days of the Compaq / HP deal in relation to Dell. This is just my opinion, however...
I could see all kinds of uses.... I would think one of the best would be a high resolution printer for metals. I wonder if HP is listening??? Right now, screen printing is the method of choice, but with this approach I would assume the resolution could be more substantially higher than screen printing in addition to longer lasting. Yes, it would require them to determine all of the color ranges, but that does not seem like such a difficult thing to do.
Also, thin metal aluminum paper for printing on could be interesting as well as it would be a great replacement for what Mylar is currently used for now.....
Better idea... IPCop... You could put a bunch of low cost servers and do a VPN Gateway to each remote office with IPCop. It is very doable and the most cost effective way there is...
OK, but why has the ability to power on been built into the bios? Meaning, on a Mac you can simply say to power down at 8pm and power back on at 5am? Having this ability on normal computers would be invaluable to powering machines up and down for the night.... Once again, like in many instances, Apple got the functionality side right where the rest of the computer industry half assed it...
If it is one thing we have learned from global warming is that sometimes it can lead to brief periods of global cooling - A Quote from a Global Warming Documentary
Lets just be honest shall we in saying that even after all the huge amount of data we have collected we know very little about what is going to happen as we move forward... Our arrogance in actually thinking we have control over what is going on I find quite interesting. Meaning, to me it is kind of like the 21st century version of the pope trying to explain why the black plague was occuring and what to do about it...
I also agree that making a sound argument for "balancing the population size" by murder is a bad concept. For one, it is not true because except for a slim few countries, which are in the African regions, no country has murder as a leading cause of death. Secondly, countless data backs up that murder has little to no effect in or modern world on population size.
Piracy, on the other hand, is without a doubt the leading reason why Apple is able to sell music at $0.99 and sell individually songs rather than just selling in album format. Meaning, the threat of piracy is what made the music studios agree to this agreement which they would not have agreed to in the "pre-napster" days. The music studios agreed to this because they realized that if they set their price higher, all they would do is force more people to downloading instead, and that this behavior would remain longterm no matter what cost they set. Their hope was that over time as they "phased" people off illegal music downloading that they could eventually start to raise their prices for music with little or no effect on piracy. They were very short sighted in this approacch, however, because what they did not realize at the time was that Apple, which became the largest music retailer, would have very little incentive to agree to a price increase because their money is primarily made by selling hardware. This is basically where we are today and is also why the movie industry is desperately trying to stop the same thing from happening to them as well...
It will be a huge turn for the federal government in US history. Meaning, this is a blantant example of politicians wanting to use the federal government resources to help primarily large businesses maximize and enforce their revenues. Piracy, like it or not, provides a market balance where in many industries it did not exist before, and most of the politicians know this.
I love macs, but I am having a really hard time dissagreeing with what he said. Actually, I find it quite interesting because I can understand his frustration. If my MacBookPro gave me the grey screen 6 times, or even 1 for that matter, I would be royally pissed as well...
I would also agree with him that Leopard was not what I had hoped it would be as far as new features. Spaces and stacks are nice, but most of the other new "features" really do not do anything for me. Cover flow, transparent menus, and even Time Machine come to mind here... I am sure someone out there wants these kinds of features, but they sure arent people like me...
M$ a true innovator??... Yes, M$ LIVE is a true innovation breakthru!!! I hope you dont honestly believe this coolaid talk... You are right, though. All M$'s products are loaded to the gills with features... Damn buttons and menu's all over the place... Also, most of M$'s business groups only exist simply because they are allowed to "rape" the industry with their forced monoploy of windows and Office. The funny thing about this is that M$ still honestly because people are "exited" to buy VIsta. Talk about out of touch...
Also, on their recent IPhone... Please name who was doing multi-touch on a phone or any device for that matter? Without the ability to have the display sense multiple fingers at one time, the interface would not be very useful... (And they knew this, which is why they didnt release a device before it was developed) They even did a damn good job with the scratch free surface implementation as well... And M$'s knee jerk reaction to Apple's multi-touch technology? Surface!! Talk about funny!!!:)
Everyone has their own opinion... I am certainly not an Apple freek, but I can say that they have done wonders for the technology industry... Right now they are the one who are pushing the innovation in the technology industry... IPod.. IPhone.. Also, Apple certainly has a history here...
As far as looking for your iPod firmware, why would you need to look for it? It would have been automatically pushed thru iTunes? Also, Apple traditionally is one who does not release a product most of th featues are function, unlike that company that makes that Zune...:)
Listen, everyone is different with what they want. For me, I wouldnt use a Zune even if you paid me to take it off your hands, but I am also one who does not care to pay $2K for a 17" MacBook Pro. Meaning, if I feel there is added value in any product, I will pay whatever I feel is reasonable.. And I can tell you without any doubt that I am hugely more productive with my Mac than I ever was with any high end Windows Laptop... I would agree that OSX probably is 90% of this benefit which is why Michael Dell wanted it on their laptops, but I think Apples hardware is quite solid....
I am certainly not saying that all software should be OSS, but at what point do companies decide to get out from under the hell that that we call Microsoft? I mean I dont remember Apple pushing out BSA nastygrams? Oh wait, Apple actually upgrade their products routinely with features that people are willing to actually pay for....
Which is to push a lobbist of some sort to get this thru... This is so obvious that I suspect someone got a promise for something to allow it thru... I mean, It is the American way after all!!
It would appear that this guy is fishing for an article... Meaning, I strongly suspect somewhere, someone is trying to sell somebody something... For example: "(Sales person to business person) Sir, did you realize how many database servers were found to lack a firewall. Here, buy my product!!"....
It kills me the number of decisions that are made at the business level by simply watching commercials or reading articles. If I have another business person ask me if they should have "SAP", I think I am going to be sick....
No one wants to suggest the obvious, which is systems like this should never require antivirus and spyware support. For mission critical systems, the only thing they should use is embedded devices where the only way to install additional software is by flashing the firmware on the device. Also, use of a hardened kernel would be nice...
Until this current administration is gone forever... Only one more year hearing words non stop about "The war on terror.. war on terror.. war on terror" which ironically seems to be remarkably similar to "The war on drugs" campaign in that it is very expensive and can never truly be won... That doesnt stop elected officials using it as an argument to take away every personal freedom we have...
M$ has always been know to be a one trick pony, so considering their current push is in advertising I would guess that this was not an "error" as they would lead you to believe. I wonder if what they are trying to do is to do what Google Desktop was/is tryin to do, which is to do some data mining work for targeted advertising...
Normally I do not respond to such crap, but you definitely have stepped on some toes..
First, I am an EE so not only do I do real software development work, but I also do real hardware development as well on several platforms. Second, I never said I made $75K, as I do own my own company. I was making a generic statement of how wages are being pushed down.
Also, it is pretty obvious you have never had a "pure" development job, because virtually no system is free of legacy and interfacing systems, and that is where you normally have support issues. Redundancy gives you nothing if you are interfacing to dozens of legacy systems that have been around for 20 years that you have very little control over. The banking system is the worst about these types of things, and it is pretty obvious you cannot fathom the complexity of these types of systems.
Finally, dont give me this "hacker in the corner" crap, as it is pretty obvious you are some "know it all" network admin . Why dont you just go out and ask for "(at least $160k-$200k/yr)" and see how many tech jobs you get. Heck I wouldnt hire you and I dont even know you because you are an arrogant punk who thinks you have the answer for everything. That is the trait of a young person, however.... Why dont you talk to me in a number of years when you grow up and get some real world experience kid...
I know this might sound bad, but why should they? I mean with the H1B setup we have now in addition to pressure on congress to get more, wages for doing real development work continue to be pushed down to an average layman wage. Meaning, doing systems development, which is not easy, for $75K a year is just not worth it from my perspective. There are many other easier jobs to get this type of income that do not require spending huge amounts of time keeping up with all of the different technolgies, and keeping a Black Berry on me 24/7.

OK.. Let me get this straight. After over 40 years in space this is the first guy to bring this up?? Hm... Smells fishy if you ask me..
Heck, why does he care how it works right yet?? If this guy is short on cash, why doesnt he start building motors and start selling them? Better yet, start making kits and sell them to slashdot people. Heck, I certainly would buy one just to play with it...
