    How hard isit for the genome people to create a working RPM, if they cant , then it shows that the rpm system is horrid.

    This is WHY LINUX DESKTOP is doomed to failure if the installation procudure is so damn outdated/retarted and more difficult than loading C-64 games.

    This is 2002, not 1984, even warez people make great installers with music during installation

    personally, my GF gates MS, but dont give a toss, and runs XP any way coz its easy ,and fun.

    Sure my route is linux and she knows how to use it too, but its NOT AS FUN!!!!!

    1. gnome is no windows desktop
    2. X is no windows GDI
    3. X doesnt use OpenGL to give us fast/funky desktops.

    what we need is funky-ass gnome thats hot and does more than windows and X/gtk whatever that runs on top of OpenGL like the new OSX10.2

    But its too late, gtk sucks, X sucks, all apps are too old....

    Just face it, the win32 gui api isnt that bad to be a standard, X is more horrible, and gtk is hardly sweet. 100x more people know win32.

    btw wheres riscos for linux?

    Like here, we get charged the same rate for international on a mobile as landline.

    Often making an international call to USA at (22/c per min) is cheaper than calling a local landline at 36c/min.

    Pathetic isnt it????

    Personally I just hate the fixed $19.40 / month fee, if that including $19.40 worth of calls then I wouldnt mind but other wise add voicmail/callerid and other charges and taxes, and upto 50% of the quarterly bill is fixed fees not including any calls.

    That I can plugin, and tell the ISP/Telco (in this case the same company) to just re-route the traditional phone# over voip via my cable to my phone.

    Oh and for $0/month since im already paying cable.

    Oh and btw, i wish it was illegal to charge, *PER MONTH* for no service. Im sick of 20% of charges being fixed per month.

    If they bother using all the fibre they install, it will be fine, but asuaual these fat cats (mafia style) companies will have 50000GIGbit capacity, but only use 40gbit.

    To day the caps are too low, lets hope they increase like the value of stocks... ie

    3gig today, but 12gig in 2004.

    As technology companies can mulitplex hundreds of wavelengths down one fibre, and getting 20terabits/second, they got to pass on the savings/benefits to the end user.

    Also the one other big RIPOFF, is not allowing ROLL OVER of unused data. If I pay for the 3gigs, i want my 3 gigs, not 2.1 , i want that .9 the next month. Mobile phone companies do it, and thats basicly bandwidth, so why cant these scum sucking ISPs/TELCOs that had made over $2500 BILLION Over the last 100 years, give us something thats actually worth it.

    If you change chipsets, you have to reinstall windows and many people dont want to (ie nt/win2k/xp) Too much of a bitch reinstalling apps/getting things to work again/settings etc....

    eg. an Xp system that used to be w2k at 400mhz 2 years ago on BX, will still stay intel as far as it can be pushed, until the P4-2.5ghz costs $150. Then the only drive to upgrade are motherboard features for free LIKE:

    1. built in ethernet
    2. built in firewire
    3. new USB2
    4. 6 pci slots, agp-8x - nforce
    5. ata133/raid

    The processor is the last factor in upgrading.
    Since 99% of things we do are already FAST enough, (besides encoding DVDs to DIVX which if it takes 4hrs today is bareable, though 45minutes would be a bonus in 12months time.

    1. if you can buy 64GIG, thats $200 * 64 = $12,800

    2. 512 cpus at 10watt each = 51200 watts, DAMMMMMMN HOT rack mount dude. Thats like 25 home heaters, which is like the back of a F18 afterburner dude.
    (Oh and another $50,000) Your gona MELT the steel frame man, and get a $5000 bill monthly from ENRON.

    3. go to sun.com ( the 192 cpus 48gig ram machines cost over $1.5 MILLION. I cant see you spending $100,000 to make a home machine to compete, so no one cares.

    PPC is the same, if its ram interface is stuck at 133mhz SDRAM , its hopeless compared to DDR333 or RDRAM1060.

    How many artists do a 4000x4000 blur any way, hopeless benchmark test.

    I have heard this argument since 1990 with 880x0 Riscs, and ARMs etc. vs the 486.

    12 years later and intel still pops out cpus faster....

    Money can buy anything.

    Perhaps Intel should start competing with NASA, sure they could do it crappier/bulkier, but they'll get there faster/cheaper.

    If anything, RISC chips end up only good for embeded devices/satelites (large embeded mobile devices really)

    I have run memory intensive apps on Sparcs, and are no faster than celerons.

    ie. single cpu Sparc 450mhz gives me on par results of celeron533mhz

    Fastest sparcs are only 1050mhz, not quite as good as a 2.4ghz P4 is it.

    I bet you the same source code that encodes mp3s, can out do any Sun on a single cpu vs p4.
