Excuse a non American dude here, but if growing pot within the boundaries you describe is legal according to the state, how can it be illegal nationally?
Which one of the systems has precedence?
Excellent question. I believe the founding fathers of our country intended state law to take precedence.
Backups are key of course because the data lost could be priceless but has GPS tech progressed to the point where it would be possible to put a small GPS device in a laptop that could be activated when the laptop is stolen? A good laptop costs at least 3 grand. I bet cars worth less than that have lojack.
I saw an increase in FPS running in Linux vs. 98 and if it crashed it didnt bring down the OS. Zeatlory? Sounds more like your spreading FUD or are you speaking from experience like I am?
yeah I remember playing team fortress mod for quake 1 on my slackware 3.6 box, it ran a lot smoother than in win 98. ID GPL'd quake1 besides having a linux client for every game they have released since so theres no doubt they are OSS friendly.
If you can't appreciate the sacrifice that these guys made so that you have to freedom to speak your mind then there is no point in arguing that with you but there is a huge difference. Also excluding Iraq there has always been a draft so a lot of people WERE "made to take the job". You think maybe someone who volunteers is deserving of less respect? Personally I would have more respect for someone who volunteered. If you think the "protect your country" line is BS then I assume you think we don't need to protect our country? What is unconventional about the current military force? Although we have freedom of speech it doesn't make it ok to be an asshole.
If there releasing the source I don't think there going to hold back anything, hell they GPL'd Quake 1. They might strip the comments because thats not a part of the code.
I see it as more of a push towards consolidating information services. Its all just information. The new episode of american idol, the text on the web telling you how to cook a good chicken gumbo, the email from your mom telling you to remember to wear clean undies, the call on your cellphone from the GF asking where you are. Sooner or later there is going to be a huge pipe streaming TV, movies, internet, radio etc.. into everyones house.
Subways are nothing special. I was referring to the kind of person that targets innocent civilians going about their lives. I'm not defending the IRA's actions by any means. They planted a lot of bombs in public places and killed civilians. The guys who planted those bombs earned ther place in hell just like the people who planted the bombs today. The IRA's agenda wasn't the destruction of Britain and the death of its entire people though, They wanted British troops out of Ireland. Alqueda just wants us dead. I dont care what your beef is, bombing civilians can never be justified.
The IRA had an agenda which didn't include killing you for being an infidel. They killed some civilians but their targets were usually military personel. Not like its worth shit but they actually apologized for killing some kids in a bombing once. Talking to terrorists like the kind that plants bombs in subways accomplishes nothing. Your existence is there problem.
I use SBC and its true that they didnt notify the users, then again I dont check my sbc email either. Most users running a mail server would probably notice a problem pretty fast. sbc upblocked it within a day after a visit to the following page though.
A good percentage of the cost of most goods is due to labor and related expenses. If robots were doing all the mindless jobs then theoretically most goods should drastically drop in price allowing for an easy and abundant life for all.
A good read about the ramifications of such a situation is "voyage from yesteryear" by James p. Hogan.
It's nice that this comes in a kit but it's usually cheaper to build it yourself. I didn't see the price of the kit in the article but I bet you could do a lot better than that cheesy looking fish tank for less money. I guess the radiator thingy sets this apart from the project that I linked to but I don't understand how agitating the water helps disperse heat. It seems like you would be better off with more coolant and a powerful pump.
Something else to consider and what I think is the main reason the record industry will die unless it changes its business model is that its current business model has been broken by the internet. cdr's cost around a quarter and everybody has a cd burner. They cant justify 12 bucks anymore. why not put a big cd burning machine in the store loaded up with cd/r's and have a network connection to pull the requested album, print up the cover and paint the cd etc. it seems to me that a lot of the people in the middle aren't needed anymore. Too bad for them but I don't see it as a bad thing necessarily.
Im getting fed up by people who say things like Direct Direct Connect/Kazaa/many other things is illegal!
someone was describing to me the other day how kaaza and similar networks could be defeated and his plan sounded good. he seemed to think that this would end online file sharing. the problem is that people have been sharing files on FTP and Usenet for a lot longer than the idea of P2P was even born. with the advent of things like bittorent and freenet its obvious that people will always create a way to share information on the net. the genies out of the bottle and you cant put it back in.
Yes, well put indeed. I have been telling my customers that the spyware there paying me a lot of money to clean is basically a "legitimate virus". How else do you describe some crap software that has taken over a users machine and made it unusable?. The users bear some of the responsibility but there should be limits. What were seeing now is the "wild west" era of the internet before laws go on the books concerning the "rights" of an internet connected PC:p I can't wait for a virus that comes with a click through EULA, it would be interesting to see (legally) what would happen.
This movie looks, smells, and tastes like the 'sci-fi' crap Hollywood has been shitting out.
I finally got thru and I couldn't agree more. I robot was a great book and judging by the trailer its going to be crappy. 90% marketing and 10% movie making. I wouldn't be surprised if they make the other two books in the robot series if this does well. Maybe even a foundation and empire move staring Wesley Snipes as Hari Seldon.
they have some credits for robots. David Haysom.... Robots Scott Heindl.... NS5 Robots
maybe one guy plays all the robots, would make sense since there all exactly alike.
>Are there websites out there for car mechanics >to make fun of their customers who bring in >their car for a tune-up?
what if the person doesnt get a tune up for 100,000 miles and then brings it in because it runs funny. if you expect to use a tool (car, computer etc..) you should learn how to use it.
>How about a website for chefs that makes fun of >people who don't know how to cook?
If I want to cook I read a recepie and I wont call albertson's market and complain that the food they sold me didnt work if the meal doesnt come out right.
on a more on topic note, I had a user come to me one day and say very seriously that he was concerned he had a virus on his home computer. the symptoms were that when ever he would type stuff in word it would sometimes overwrite text. after I was done laughing I recommended he press the insert key on his keyboard. he had enough of a sense of humor to laugh about it the next day when he told me I had cured him of the insert key virus:p

I was thinking the same thing, I'm questioning my nerduality now.

I saw this one on a clients computer once. adaware and spybot didnt get rid of it but CWshreder did.
