Agreed. My dad was fired a few years ago for scetchy reasons from a firm. Had there been a union it never would have happened. Unions do have their place, and they're not all bad.
How is that any different from an apartment? Landlords can send in maintaince if they think it might be an emergency as well. Under normal circumstances, you do have excluse right of entry. To use your example, the college security cannot just come in simply because they want to. They have to have an actual reason, which is probably clearly stated in the lease agreement.
Your room is property within the exclusive use of the user (you). Not just anyone can come into your room at any time for any reason, thus it is in your exclusive use. You will, of course, have to get your roommates to agree, but if they didn't, why have WiFi anyway?
Some of my more liberal friends and I have always been wondering how long it would take for the Bush camp to come out and say a vote for Kerry is a vote for Terrorism. I guess we now have the answer.
I made a special point to ask if they would ship it because it was an open box item. Both the employee and the manager said they would. If you go from that you could easily say that anything was a special case and that neither the normal employees nor the base management knew about it. My point is that it is their job to know. If they do not know for sure, then it is their job to find out. Once a definitive answer is given, I would expect that the company would stick by that answer. Changing the answer after the sale is being processed is not cool by any stretch, and possibly illegal.
I had a pretty awful story from Best Buy as well. A few years ago, I went in looking for a big screen TV (before HDTV was anywhere near affordable). I found one that I thought was great. It was an open box item that was discontinued.
Anyhow, I talked to a sales man about it. Told him I had no easy way to get it shipped to my place myself, so how much would shipping be, and did they ship to my place (about 15-20 min away)? He told me how much and said that of course they did I said, great, I'll take it and the shipping.
He began to ring up the sale and hit a problem. The computer would not accept my zip code for shipping. He called over his manager. His manager said that of course they ship to that zip code, he just sold something earlier and shipped it there. But alas, his manager could not get the system to accept my zip.
Next, the General Manager for the store was brought over. She asked what the problem was, the employees told her. She said something to the effect of they do ship to that zip, but they won't ship open boxed items there. I explained that I had already agreed to buy it, and that I was already told it could be shipped.
After about 30 min of going back and forth, the GM proceeded to basically tell me that their employees are so inept that if they tried to ship it to me they would damage it. I asked to be sure, "you mean the reason you usually ship to my area, but won't this time, is because your employees will probably damage it?" She said, yep. She then informed me that I had wasted enough of her time and that I needed to either buy the TV or not, but that even though I was told it could be shipped to me, it would not be.
Ahhh yes, the joys of Resolve. Don't you just love it when your school invents a whole new language for the sole purpose of ensuring that you will never graduate with real world skills?
No offense, but someone who makes a statement like this, "In fact, many java applications that run for extended periods of time leak memory to the point of exhausting all system memory." kind of proves that they do not know what they are talking about.
The VM in Java limits the amount of memory a particular application is allowed to use. If the program has a memory leak, it will hit the VM limit and throw OutOfMemoryErrors. It cannot use all of the system memory unless the user specifically told the VM that it can (which is not likely to happen often).
Same thing with my wife. She still refers to Internet Explorer as "e". However, I showed her FireFox a while back, as well as how to download it. She was over at a friend's place watching their kid for a few hours a while back. While she was there, she installed FireFox so that she could have tabs and get rid of the popups. I was pretty proud.
You're right, because a boob popping out will cause irreperable harm to a kid where as the good wholesome game of beating the shit out of each other is just good ol' family fun.
Not that I have anything against football specifically, but jeezus, let's put some things in perspective. Chances are the kid saw a boob already since most people are breast fed at least once in their lives. I really don't get the big deal. Honestly, why is it ok to show a man's chest, but showing a woman's will corrupt our youth?
You will believe two (sic), 5 milliseconds after you die.
No offence, but my wife was declaired dead for almost two minutes about 5 years ago. What did she see? Nothin'. She thought she had simply fallen asleep. The one thing she does remember is that her chest hurt like hell from the electrodes though.
Granted, she's only one data point, and I'm sure you will discount her experience. But I thought I'd share it anyway.
Umm, you did notice that it just allows the Justice Department to file *civil* suits, right? No criminal charges. Not that this is fantastic, but still, you don't go to jail for civil suits (you just have to pay a fortune).
Which is in fact not permitted in Java. Java will give you a compile-time error stating that "something = 3" does not evaluate to a boolean (or something to that effect). It helps eliminate the much dreaded single-equals bug that can crop up in C/C++.
Sorry everyone, my bad. I bought the DVD-RAM drive a few years ago, and shortly later, that format died. A month ago, I bought a DVD-RW drive, and ummm... Well, I guess I kind of cursed it too.
The problem with this idea that I often send mail through my work SMTP server. This way, no matter where I am, I can always send email without having to constantly switch my mail server for whatever ISP I happen to be using on my laptop at the moment.
They've dropped long term contracts and hardware lease fees...
Any place I can find more info on that? Someone I know, just last month, was given a 24 month contract to sign upon installitaion even though there was no mention of it before installation. Plus, as far as I can tell, there is a $5 DVR fee + a $5 per receiver fee (on top of the DVR fee if you have a DVR). If I'm wrong, I'd like to know.
I hate whenever this is brought up by people who don't know what really happened in the McDonalds Coffee case. Read the facts here. It's really helpful if you know what you are talking about before you rail against it.
I don't get your point. How is this any more "abusive" than what can happen now? A guy and a girl living together, one has a job with health insurance. They get married and the slacker other gets cheap healthcare. How is that any better than the situation you described?
If you're against gay marrage, then don't marry a gay person. Other than that, why should it bother you?

Hey, my wife has been trying for a year now to convince me to buy her a gameboy...

Gotta love customer relations like that.

Unless, as the article points out, they are backwards enough that they are literally eating their own crap.
Same here. I get about 31 city and about 36 highway. 2002 Civic EX.
Maybe once upon a time, but with tax, $2 becomes $2.12 anyway (at 6%), still forcing change.

Copied word for word from a comment posted in Dec. 2001, here. Look 4 comments down.

Umm, we're gonna need reinforcements.

I hear ya. A few years I bought myself a DVD-RAM drive. This time I think I'll wait until the dust settles before I go out and buy another DVD format.
