It's not that simple. I'm not a slave, yet I must still follow laws of the state. Right now attempted suicide is illegal. You can argue that laws should be changed, or that you have the right to ignore laws, but "you should be free to do whatever you want with your body" is clearly false by any moral measure. It depends how that "whatever" affects others.
Let's not forget the political costs of being over a barel by medieval middle east guys. The costs of blood and treasure for wars and our military in general aren't usually factored in..
I guess once police proclaim something a 'destructive device" all rights can be removed from anyone who happens to standing around. The law doesn't seem to be too specific as to how destructive something is, or what it could destroy. I have a devices which destroy wood. You know, saws, gouges, routers, drills, sanders. Think of the damage you could do with those. Much more than dry ice in a plastic bottle.
You've been watching too much Fox news. Their opinion masquerading as news has their watchers convinced that they are in the middle, hence virtualy all other media is "far left".
Those of us actually on the left are very disapointed with Obama and the Dems. The war is an awful waste. Healthcare, stimulus and financial reform were not bold enough. The so called "left" that you mention, isn't us. We're 30% of the population and ignored by almost everyone. It's gotten to the point where I have to turn on comedy central to see politicians being seriously called on their bullshit. Thanks, Jon Stewart.
There was an episode of "The Munsters" when Herman was elected mayor. He was disqualified because grandpa got the names for the nomination ballot from the cemetary headstones.
Cop1: Let's get a warrant. Cop2: Don't bother, just say they might be a threat to national security. Cop1: Should we bother with the rubber stamp ? Cop2: No one else does. Cop1: Thanks, FISA !
This is the change Obama promised us ? As usual, the American government does what it can do to preserve the status quo at the expense of the population at large. "You suckers get out of line and we'll stop (or spy on) your communications". I hope this works as well as it did in Iran when they tried to shut them down during a near revolution.
Clearly, civilization existed before oil, so it's not a necessary condition. The best thing that could happen in America is a sudden disappearance of all oil. It would take money, therefore political power away from Exxon and the like. There would be immediate rewards for those who could bring energy innovation we need to the market. Then middle east fundimentatists could go back to the 16th century where they belong.
The article says that Banks don't give out the numbers of customers. instead compared the complaints to dollars in investments (which they assume correlates to numbers of investors). So you're right. These statistics can't even hope to accurate in terms of consumer risk.
How do you get an olpc ? I went to the site and all I could find was "you can't get them from ebay anymore". I doesn't matter how good they are if all you can do is read about them.
You've been watching too much fox "news". Dead people do not pay taxes. The "Death Tax" is a misnomer created by people against the estate tax. The inheritors pay tax when money changes hands to them from an estate.
It's stupid to make suicide illegal. How would the government enforce this law? Jail your corpse ? Fine your estate? Why would you care ? Attempted suicide- that's another thing entirely.
What's the motivation ? Is McBride's sense of justice is tied to how much money he makes ? Or is it that frivolous lawsuits make him feel better when he's failing ? Or is it that he has to blame someone because he sells an uncompetitive product ? Or is he just a cheap whore ?
I'm so glad their civil liberties oversight group consists of people from "DoD and the Intelligence Community". In the past, these guys have always cared about safeguarding our privacy and civil liberties.... NOT

Whats the penalty for subverting a copy prevention measure?
Getting beaten by your clone
Bugs bunny had this job. Her hit the bomb with a hammer. When it didn't go off, he stamped it "DUD".

Courts are the last resort for Microsoft because they're usually the ones (deservedly) getting sued !
