nope... they actually lost them. one left at the gym, one dropped out of pocket. dunno how it happened, but one week we all had em and now it's only me.
if you have a sim card from your provider, go down to Best Buy and get a "Go Phone" (pay as you go). They have a motorola for 20 bucks, that two of my friends got when they lost their expensive razors.
Yes. 20 dollars. A phone you can lose and not care that much about. Finally. It's about time.
I remember so fondly the day when I was able to remove Jon Katz from my slashdot..... haven't heard from him since.
They should just make a Cringley topic, and if they're going to link to his every article, they should use the RSS feed so they could link it on time....
This reminds me of the time that CmdrTaco said Slashdot Subscribers Now See The Future, except this is the exact opposite.... more like Slashdot Subscribers Now See the Past!
The title of this article does not match its contents..... will it really "turn IE into Firefox"? Will I be able to use all of my firefox extensions with this new browser? Will it transform the source code from closed to open? Will it get rid of that annoying "E" icon?
I think not.... Even the summary refutes this bad title:
"new plugin available for IE that can make Internet Explorer resemble Firefox"
Resemble..... not "into"
---- next weeks slashdot: "New Plugin turns Windows into Linux!"
Sounds like a real ipod killer there. I can just see the legions of fans marching through the streets, screaming at the top of their lungs, I want my NW-HD3, I want my NW-HD3!
I can't wait to get one and throw my Ipod in the trash. Listing songs by Artist was overrated anyway.
IF only Slashdot would link to coral or host the file they link to locally, we could avoid the Slashdot Effect and all of the damage it does to society, like annoying me and proving how ridiculous computers act when they are run by humans.
Why do we have to keep experiencing all the fun and joy of the slashdot effect when Coral exists?
Why don't the enlightened editors of Slashdot simply link to a coral version of the article (or host a mirror themselves) and end this delightful yet technologically destructive effect.
How much longer must this nonsense go on before some one sensible solves it with a simple already available off the shelf solution?
(and if you agree with me on this, why not fix www.airamericaplace.com who is currently handing out air america mp3s directly, not links to torrents and constantly complains about bandwidth costs.)
I just wanted to remind everyone that another reason that the first Star Wars film did so well was because most of the wipes, angles, etc (As well as the bumbling of R2-D2 and C3PO) were (as admitted by Lucas) borrowed from the Akira Kurosawa film "The Hidden Fortress".
Lucas did not direct the second or third film, and to my knowledge has only directed Star Wars, American Graffiti, and THX 1138. He is now directing the new film... I wouldn't expect much.
I completely agree with Katz. There has been too much hype. Would Rushmore, Good Will Hunting, or Silence of the Lambs been great films if you could buy action figures, blankets and toothbrushes months in advance??
How about an article in Vanity Fair about the costumes wore by Hannibal Lecter.... You'll see here a style that is sure to be a big hit next season... the Prison uniform with the top button unbuttoned, notice the power and grace that it displays.
Personally I'm sick of all the hype, and I'm really looking forward to three other movies this summer: Eyes Wide Shut (Stanley Kubrick's Last Film), Austin Powers: The Spy who shagged me, and of course South Park: The Movie.

Have you thought about this long term?
Is suing your customers really a good strategy?
Has any one on this thread purchased more than 1 CD last year?
Anyone planning to purchase them in the future?

not to mention that they have a torrent....
http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/
it's not really that big.
It's just the people who write slashdot are that old... it's 80 megs, whatever shall we do, while they're downloading 200 meg video game demos....
only 7 days behind the curve!

the mirrordot.....
again, slashdot should just link to Coral, MirrorDot or host the webpage themselves.
How many years must they kill with traffic?
Is it only because they believe in the fallicies of "click count" and "banner ads"??
Is this why we must drive traffic into a dead end?
again and again and again and again.
but don't worry, because hip subscribers get to see the next slashdot story early!

why doesn't slashdot have pictures?
they too good for pictures?

Has anyone else noticed that Slashdot has dropped the ball?
How even in the year 2005, when services like Coral and Bittorrent are released that we still have the "slashdot effect" on servers?
Why is our traffic being driven to these sites in such a half hazard way which is destined to crash them?
If Slashdot gained so much money when they became owned by a corporation why don't they simply host the files and avoid the Slashdot Effect?
or simply changing all their links to Coral.
Or creating a new mirroring system to solve the problems.
In the old days before slashdot became stagnant, new technologies would be created to solve these problems.
Now they just report on links from BoingBoing 4 days later.
It's just sad.

the article
another article killed by slashdot instead of linking to the coral version, or creating their own mirror.
how many more times does this have to happen?
Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy that this site built a backbone for itself and then uses its traffic to kill sites it links to?
Sounds like a real ipod killer there. I can just see the legions of fans marching through the streets, screaming at the top of their lungs, I want my NW-HD3, I want my NW-HD3!

Although it seems like even Coral didn't get it.
Here's a link anyway: on Coral
