    I use random-ish information (humans aren't random number generators but good at producing noisy output) and then write it down if it have to be remembered.

    But sites that require (in)security questions are just filled with crap that is then quickly forgotten. Because if I forget the password the site obviously isn't important, really important logins are written down on paper as a backup.

    You want to communicate with government services? Use your phone - yes even a dumb phone or a land line would work. Or download some papers and send away. Or go to local branches of whatever you want to communicate with and ask for some assistance.

    So you had incompetent professors.

    Nobody sane expects that handwritten code is 100% syntactically correct and not containing fixes. Missing semicolons aren't relevant in general for instance as the compiler will catch most such errors.

    Computer science isn't the same as being a code monkey. A good CS student doesn't actually have to be a good programmer. A good programmer needn't know the basics in CS (but it would be useful). Many skilled programmers doesn't even know the specifics of common algorithms and datatypes but know when and how to use them - and that's fine.

    This reminds me of those that have to make arguments (being generous here) against Trump even if completely unrelated in any way.
    Yes you should complain if you want to - but do it when it is relevant. This is about privacy and selling of personal information not about transparency and honest behavior.

    If I choose to use the closed Intel icc for compiling some open source software doesn't mean the software isn't open. Same applies to hardware design.

    Your idea of confirmation is weird unless CBC did a large scale long time screening for cancer in rats exposed to radio waves.
