Mozilla-firebird already does this with a small extension. It works with regular expressions and you can enable disable it at will so you can still support the sites you want to support. Maybe it should be more like that, or maybe everyone should just use firebird;)
I've always thought that censorship of any kind is a bad thing. Hear me out; what's worth more, some one who does "good" because they're forced to or some one who does "good" because they chose to?
A person who's been exposed to all sorts of crap (violent video games et al.) but has turned out to be a pretty decent individual is worth a lot more to me than some one who was sheltered from that stuff as a kid and has turned out to be decent. It's the choices people make that a worth something, not necessarily their actions.
It seems to me that the violent video games/movies/sex-advertising etc. are the symptoms of a decaying society and not the cause. We can't censor everything that we don't like and pretend everything's okay because we have rules against "that sort of thing". Everyone should be free to make choices.
To me, banning violent games shows that people are so messed up that they need other people to tell them what to do so they don't have to think too hard or take responcibility for their choices (no choice no responcibility). Enough with the rules, let people think for themselves - no dount we're going to make a heck of a lot of bad choices in life but that's how we learn and grow.
Fair enough I'll have to concede to all your points - except buying all three consoles, I'm not spending 200 squid (don't forget the memory card) on a 3 year old console. But yes, I suppose it makes sense when you put it like that.
I think you missed my point entirely. I was very much trying *not* to go down the old "Nintendo care about games, MS and Sony only care about making money" rant since I know full well that Nintendo are "in it for the money". They are a for-profit company.
What I was trying to say is that not many old-school gamers think Nintendo to only make games for kids, it's mostly the new wave of gamers who didn't grow up playing games (and therefore never owned a Nintendo console, probably). They take one look at Zelda and the like and laugh without even trying it (whereas you have obviously tried it, and still didn't like it? Weird). I'm just a little upset that the likes of MS and Sony are now changing gaming to cater more and more for these very people who used to beat on gamers in school for playing "geeky computer games". Nintendo seems to be the only one to cater for the original gamer.
Of course Nintendo is out to make a profit, they're not a charity. I prefer Nintendo over others because of the *way* they make their money, by giving me gaming goodnes! Whereas Sony make money through hyping the same exclusive games over and over again, not matter how bad they are.
Also, I make no distinction between "real" gamers and new-wave gamers other than that the old gamers know better than to by a game like Tomb Raider: Angle of Darkness, where the suits who by PS2s obviously don't. If you play games then you're a gamer, it's as simple as that, but don't expect me to take you seriously if you're not willing to invest some time into finding out about the games you slag off for being cutesy.
Since my karma is all but burnt, I may as well make this final jab; computing / gaming world comparison as I see it: Nintendo = Apple, Sony = MS, GP32 = Linux:)... and err, MS = MS... again... shut up.
I'm not entirely convinced that your average gamer finds Nintendo games "cartoony" and therefore for kids. Yesterday on my way back from the game store a painfully obvious tough guy started talking to me about the GC game I had in my hand. We chatted for a bit about different consoles and he seemed adamant on getting a GC (as soon as he had robed enough kids of their lunch money to be able to afford one no doubt). This isn't the first time I've been surprised at just how well the GC is received by your average gamer.
The problem then is not that gamers see Nintendo games as for kids, but that your new-wave late 20s, wife and half a kid, never played games until the Playstation bloke sees them as for kids. I'm not going to go on about how these people aren't "real gamers" but, well, let's just say that I don't value there opinion about games very highly.
Sony and MS are targeting everyone, Nintendo is targeting gamers. So Sony and MS, please, take the non-gamers, so that Nintendo can keep the "real" gamers happy with more of what we want (if you haven't played Zelda because it's cell shaded then, well, sucks to be you).
Well first let's clear something up, it's not another OS, you wouldn't call KDE an OS would you? My Zaurus still runs on the same (slightly modified) OS it shipped with despite the fact that I'm running Opie, it runs Linux.
I'm not at all sure that PDAs are becoming obsolete in the face of competition from smart phones. The new phones will still be that, phones. I don't see how a product can be designed to be two different things without sacrificing something(s) from both.
I'd rather have a phone that's a good phone, and a PDA that's a good PDA than something which tries to do both and fails. Old arguement I know, but I feel nothing's changed, phones will not be the all-in-one device they promise to be, not enough thought has gone into user adoption. Unlike Sony's attempt
, unfortunately.
So I waited. And waited. And waited some more. Finally I was rewarded, with nothing. Zombo eventually shuts up and dies. They could have at least looped the recording or something.
I like reading the -1 posts when I'm bored. They're funny as hell. The first few on this topic were especially funny/stupid. Alarmingly though, I often find things which *I don't* think should have been modded down into oblivion, and so I always wonder if there are good things I'm missing because of this modding.
...err, the U.S. Attorney General? I dunno, at least that's what it said in the fortune I got from...erm, "fortune". Maybe that's out of date yes? I'm not american so I don't know what's what as far as that stuff goes.
Enough irrelevancies! KIMMY BE MINE!
... maybe it *is* time to chance my sig though.
...err, no? I dunno, is that a real question? What the heck has to do with me stealing his girlfriend? Obviuosly if I'm intellectually challenged I can't be 31337 can I? Even *I* can figure that out.
A machine is useless because it concentrates on what it is designed for instead of trying to be an all mighty, all purpose, entertainment unit! Of course! How could we be so blind!? Now we see the folly of the outdated big N.
And trying to combat piracy by using non-standard size dvd's? What foolishness is this? Why don't they just use the key based system? It worked before... didn't it? You are of course absolutely correct and have opened our eyes... YOU FRICKIN' RETARD! REEEEEETARD!... and world peace.

Sorry about the the rant.
Another PA quote for you:
"Guns don't kill people, kids who play video games kill people". Irony? It's like iron isn't it?

Is it just me or do the posts proclaiming "mirror" actually have no such link to a mirror?

You'll be wanting one of these then;
... Another academic just found out why 100pc of this formulae is 50pc crap and 50pc nonesense.

I have a lot of time on my hands.
Now I'm pissed and it's the mod's fault. Godamn nazis.

Heh, m4yb3 7h475 why s0m3 g4m3r5 5p311 funny?
Having said that, it's still likely to be true (unfortunately), but who's going to let a little thing like stupidity get in the way of their gaming?
P.S. No one loves you. Not even your "mom". Not even Santa Clause. Not even Social Services. Not even God. Infact, God hates you.
Just coincedentally, I'm holding an old-school SFII tourneyment at my house soon. Ah, the memories.

Actually I spoke to her about this and she said she prefers intelectually challenged men... therefore; me in, you out.
Yeah who the hell is Kimmy? Is she oriental? If so then I love her to and you'll have to fight for her.

Well the 3rd party developers seem to be happy that the game is "easier to develop for" so that's all that matters isn't it?
