I used Gnome since around 1.4 and am of the same disposition most people who started using it at that time are. I don't want to rant about how there's no freedom in Gnome anymore etc., that's been done. In fact I don't even have a point, just some thoughts.

I switched to KDE3 after Gnome 2.6 (I was kind of heading for the door at 2.4 but I thought I'd give their new direction a try at least). Initially KDE3 was heaven; everything was configurable. But then it was hell; everything was configurable. I went in search of an old flame, Enlightenment, but that flame had died out, I just hadn't noticed.

Then I discovered XFCE4, just the right balance of configurability and simplicity (for me at least). Now I use 10% Gnome, 60% KDE, and 30% other (rox mostly). I have the best of everything and it all fits together beautifully. XFCE4 is so unopposing that everything can live together in harmony.

Maybe people are right and there should be one common desktop, but for all the people like me out there who like neither Gnome or KDE entirely, I'd like to recommend XFCE4, it's kind of rad.

I'm sure you would get this sort of thing happening with toasters or laundry soap if you had to service other peoples broken toasters every other day because they made the wrong choice in which toaster to buy. Or you worked with good soap at home which cleaned everything first time, but at your job in the laundry room you had to use bad soap because the washing machines your boss bought only worked with the washing machine's brand.

Hmm, how can I put this? You're a Goddamn liar. Either that or you just don't know what you're talking about (fair enough that's not a crime, but it should be). All Infinitum Labs said in that letter is "That's not true! You take that back. You take it back or I'm calling Mommy Law". They provide little to no evidence to show any untruths which may exist in the article. Saying 'you didn't look hard enough' to claims that Hard|OCP looked through "all publicly available information" is the same as saying nothing at all.

Penny Arcade, who have cultivated an inexplicable (and laughably histrionic) vendetta against Infinium Labs, for no apparent reason

I agree, Penny Arcade are pretty immature and a lot of the time this gets in the way of their providing decent content on their site, this is a sad thing. I also agree that they seem to have picked a fight with Infinitum Labs without provocation and for no reason, but this second part I couldn't care less about. So what if they want to take down this joke of a company and provide some giggles along the way? Read up on their "console" and I'm sure you won't care much either. Anybody who sues when they want some one to do something instead of just asking nicely deserves whatever they get.

You do not have a monopoly simply because people have *chosen* your product over some one else's. That's the key word by the way; "chosen". There has always been competition in the handheld market and Nintendo have always won. That is competition; two or more things *competing* with each other. Just because the same one always wins you can not call it a monopoly.

If I was playing Street Fighter II in the arcade and challenged any one and everyone there, but remained on the machine because I beat all challengers, do I have a monopoly on the machine or am I just really good at Street Fighter?

First thing you do is look through the nvidia message boards . It's more than likely that you can find an answer there. If that fails then post a message there with proper details about your problem (machine specs, Xfree86 conf file et al.), the above description (and bless you for trying) is not adequate.

If they fail to give you an answer, which is unlikely, then I'll even take a look at things for you (I've had far more than my fair share of problems with an Nvidia card so I've had many hours of white hair enducing troubleshooting experience).

That is why he says things like window snapping are crack and that is why he's willing to introduce things like expocity. How many times before window snapping came along did you think to yourself "Gee I wish I could snap these windows together for some reason" and how many times have you thought "Damn I wish I could see all my windows at once and change between them"?
