I don't have the answers or even a suggestion...but jailing people left and right certainly isn't working on drug use...why do they think it will work here?
What?? You mean the War on Drugs wasn't a rip-roaring success like they keep telling us? I could have sworn that it's tougher for kids to get illegal drugs than it is to get alcohol or tobacco, right?
You're right... the "War on Piracy" will most likely end up the same way -- A huge wast of time and money, with a bunch of non-violent "offenders" being thrown in jail as the casualaties of the war.
(OT: I predict that the "War on Terror" will be equally effective... yeah, yeah, off topic, bleah:P )
Unless of course computer geeks everywhere formed their own political party and marched on Washington.
Weeeellll.... We had a Computer Geek running for president in this last election. Unfortunately, as usual, most people didn't care. Or they used some other lame ass excuse like "this is such an important election" or "I don't want to waste my vote".
Heh, the sheep don't want salvation. They are happy being sheep. (let the flames begin for that comment, I can take it:)
The story seems to overstate things a little bit. Apparently the 2005.0 release will have an experimental installer, and it won't yet include support for multi-machine cloning, although that is planned for the future.
your character in ST:TNG, he(/you) left the ship with 'the traveler' to do great and wondrous things. I always wondered when you were going to come back and save the ship from some otherwise horrible fate, it of course, never happened.
No, but he did manage to take time out from his "travelling" to make it back for Riker and Troi's wedding in the beginning of Nemesis... At least I think I remember seeing him sitting @ the table there for a micro-second in the background... (There never was really an explanation for that either...)
The more they do this, the more they can get bills passed that erode the rights of US citizens and turn the US into a nation of good little worker bees making the elite upper class richer and richer.
What do you mean "turn the US into a nation of good little worker bees"?
We're already there, dood. No "turning" required... nobody in the US cares about anything as long as they can have their 2.5 kids, and a bigger house/TV/SUV/etc than their neighbor.
(yes, I'm over-generalizing. There are a few (3 or 4) peoople in the US that do care... unfortunately, the majority doesn't.)
Just chiming in w/my endorsement of XBMC. It's how I play all my media. Actual files are stored on a windows or linux box (I have one of each, and files are put wherever I have space:), and then played on XBMC via SMB.
I can even stream shows off my TiVo using the ccxstream searver and TivoX (module for TivoWeb).
Ok, so disregard my previous post aboot the account getting deactivated.
Apparently, when they want to ban someone from xbox live, they ban the Xbox's EEPROM id, which is the unique identifier for each xbox.
I get the idea from this thread and this thread that there's a way to flash your EEPROM so that you can get back on, but I don't know how you'd do that. (I use Xlink Kai for my online gaming:)
And they have a linux client/daemon, and a client in XBMC. Apparently, you can run the linux client/daemon on your Linksys WRT54G (if you have one of course, which I don't... ), control it from XBMC, and have online gaming w/out a computer involved. At least that's what seems to be implied in this post to xbox-scene: XBMC and Kai
Used Kai many times before, seems to work quite well most of the time:)
I would like some honest thoughts, and please no "if you vote third party you are throwing away your vote" or "a vote for a third party is really a vote for (insert one of the 2 major party candidates here)" because I just don't believe that
Good. The only "wasted vote" is for a candidate that you don't believe in.
It's very simple. Voting for a 3rd party is not wasting the vote if you believe in the 3rd party's ideas and not the other parties. It is not "stealing" votes from one of the other parties, because they don't own the votes in the first place. Each one of us has exactly one vote. It is our vote to do with as we please.
We have the choice of voting for someone we believe in, or the "lesser of 2 evils". (this doesn't apply to everyone though, since if you believe in one of the "2 evils" as I'm calling them, by all means vote for them)
Why not vote for the person that you're happy voting for? Vote your conscience, and sleep well in the knowledge that your voice was recorded and heard.
(you can probably guess from my sig who my vote is for... However, please don't allow me to pressure you in anyway -- make your own decision. You are free to vote for whoever you want, be it Bush, Kerry, or someone else. Just vote for the one that you want. Don't cast a vote against someone...)
Well, you're possibly right. However, since it hasn't happened (at least not since the whigs way back when), I guess we'll never know until we try. A president that is hobbled by the non-cooperativeness of congress for four years might not be a bad thing...
It might at least point out the problems in the system. Continuing to vote for the current system even though you don't like it just because "it's all we have" is ridiculous. I don't like it, and I'm willing to accept the consequences of an alternative, even if it's chaos. Most americans are probably not, however...
Kryeziu said the CherryOS site was often unresponsive because of attacks from crackers and traffic. The site was unavailable most of Thursday because a cracker changed administrator passwords and key settings, he said.
"It's getting hacked like crazy," he said
So they're admitting that they don't know how to secure their web server very well then? Cuz I've run a number of web servers, and it's really not that hard to keep them from "getting hacked like crazy". <obligatory MS bash>Well, assuming you're not using IIS, that is...</obligatory MS bash>
supposedly strong democracy like american (that only has two political parties with only milionnaires running and a pathetic participation rate on election day)
Sorry to burst the media bubble, but there's more than 2 candidates running. And some of them aren't millionnaires either... (computer geek/constitutional scholar in fact)
"The technique of killing civilians and then first-responders when they get there is the primary scenario to win in all the Grand Theft Auto games," he said. "They are killing simulators actually used by gangs."
Hmmm.... I don't know about being the "primary scenario to win" in the GTA games... Usually killing civilians and then mowing down the responding cops is just a way to blow off steam:)
There's actualy "missions" that have "goals" that you need to play to actually win the game....
They WILL eventually get bumped out of where they need to be. Then you need to shut everything down, open up your Xbox, realign all of the points, and close it again
Actually, last time my chip stopped working, I unplugged all the wires from my xbox, and dropped it a few times on each side on my bed.
Plugged it back in and it works again!:)
(I have one of the ooooooold matrix chips -- the first solderless xbox chip... )
To answer your question about larger harddrives, the xbox can handle any size hard drive you want to throw at it. It was once limited to 137GB but this has since been corrected in the newer bioses.
Technically it's still limited. It's just that the limit now is 2TB, and since we don't even have hard drives that big (yet), you can put pretty much any (current) hard drive into it:)
(2) I'm always hiding crap in it (who would think to look there?)
Okaaaay... yes, true, probably nobody would look there. But I can't help but wonder what you manage to "hide" in your xbox... don't know about you, but there isn't really a whole lot of room in mine:)
Not to mention that you're probably messing w/the box's ability to cool properly... but then if the cover is off all the time maybe that's making up for it..
I'm interested in modding up my Xbox, but curious as to whether any chip allows the mod chip to be turned off via something like dashboard(for the purposes of using Live!), rather than a physical switch
Yes, actually the Xenium (the one in the story) can do this. You boot into the Xenium OS, and then you can pick the "stock kernel", which will boot the boxx of the MS kernel and turn off the mod. Then you can go on live.
Reboot, and you're back to running a non-stock / modded kernel..
I don't have the answers or even a suggestion...but jailing people left and right certainly isn't working on drug use...why do they think it will work here?

I think I can sum up this article in one simple acronym: FUD
Considering that communism has killed more people than any other ideology in history, yeah
:)
I'd say that organized religion probably holds that title
to our victory over communism in '89
:P
Uh, yeah... cuz there's no more communist nations in the world, right? And just because they're communist must mean they're bad, right?
Heh, the war on communism was about as successful as the war on drugs, and I predict that the war on terror will be just about as successful
The story seems to overstate things a little bit. Apparently the 2005.0 release will have an experimental installer, and it won't yet include support for multi-machine cloning, although that is planned for the future.

And yes, we are so fucked.
Hurm is the American English spelling of Norwegian word. Both are pronounced the same. :)
:)
And was Rorshach in America or Norway?
It's funny that you say you've never heard of it but use Rorshach's trademark "hrm".
:)
Actually, I believe Rorshach usually said "hurm".

Or they simply deactivate your xbox live account... then it doesn't matter if you spoof MAC address or use a different xbox, you're still screwed...
(I don't know if this is how they do it or not, but I sort of remember reading that they deactivated accounts for people logging in w/modchips..)

no, "getting hacked" by "evil crackers" is a way you buy some time when you're running a scam on the net.
:)
Yep, my point exactly
This was one of my favorites:
Kryeziu said the CherryOS site was often unresponsive because of attacks from crackers and traffic. The site was unavailable most of Thursday because a cracker changed administrator passwords and key settings, he said.
