Of course, the movies will go from worse to better, that's one advantage...)
Until you watch Return of the Jedi with all those little ewoks running around and wonder how a movie like Empire could have led into... "The Ewoks Save the Rebellion"...:)
There's a simple solution to any of this though... Just get a TurboNet card for your TiVo, and extract the movie in a non-DRM'd mpg. Watch it whenever and on whatever you want (well, except for your TiVo... since it doesn't play mpg's... hmmm... but with the help of a modchip, you can watch it on your teevee thru your xbox:)
And before you answer about things like "character" or truthfulness, in defense of either side, be careful, as both side has lied plenty. (Yes, [insert Bush or Kerry here]-supporters, he's lied a LOT about things related to his service, both during and after.)
How about instead of voting for the lesser of two evils (which still inevitably leave you with evil), you vote for "the party of principle": The Libertarian Party is the only political party that seems to not be afraid to give straight answers. Please take the time to check them out before casting your vote. The LP candidate this year, Michael Badnarik isn't afraid to answer the tough questions and give answers that aren't always "politically correct".
There's more than two parties in this country, people. Wake up and see that the Republicans and Democrats aren't concerned about anything other than maintaining their stronghold on the country.
There's at least one instance, "Amish Paradise", where the original artist (Coolio) denied permission and Weird Al went ahead with it anyway
Actually, the way I've heard the story is that "Al's people" talked to "Coolio's people" and they said it was all good. However, "Coolio's people" apparently forgot to actually ask or tell Coolio, and when he found out he was quite upset. By this time however, Al had already created and released the song, so he couldn't take it back then. Al apparently was very upset and apologetic about it, since his goal is to make music for people to enjoy, not piss off the original artist.
The whole thing was eventually worked out I think... but maybe not, I can't remember... maybe Coolio is still harboring some grudge against Weird Al to this day for all I know:)
I'm terribly sorry to inform you of reality, but even if every Libertarian candidate running for office this year were elected they still wouldn't be able to change anything. If every one of them were elected the media would have them socially castrated by pointing out, at every turn, the ineffectiveness of their term in office.
You're probably right. However, we won't really know until we try. So if you have nothing to lose in voting for a third party, then why not? Especially considering the alternative of voting dem or repub, neither of which will ever result in any sort of useful change..
Do we? I keep forgetting that/.'ers convieniently ignore the fact that Kerry isn't repealing the PATRIOT Act.
Just because someone says "we have a choice" doesn't mean that they're voting for Kerry.
Wake up people!!!! There are more than two political parties!!!!! If you really want a change, you are never going to get it with a republican or democrat.
Vote for a third party... any third party, I don't care, just don't vote for a republican or democrat, because if you do, then you have no right to complain when things don't change, because you are too scared (or whatever reason people don't vote 3rd party) to change it.
Personally, I prefer the Libertarian Party. Their candidate this year is Michael Badnarik. Go read his site, and listen to the debates, you might be suprised to find that not all political parties (or candidates) are the same.
A very good question indeed. Personally, I use both. I use linux for my server needs (home & work), but I remain with Windows on my desktop.
Why, you ask? Simple -- games. I like to play games on my computer. Yes, yes, I know that some games play under wine and/or wineX, but the last time I tried to compile and/or set up wine/wineX, it wasn't pretty (and I've compiled plenty of thing before, including kernels...)
Once the game makers start making games that run natively on linux, then I might switch completely. Believe me, I would like nothing more than to ditch windoze completely:)
Oh, one other thing that keeps me on windoze @ work: MS Outlook. We (like many businesses) use exchange server, so we're kinda stuck w/outlook.... but when I run linux on my desktop, I just remote desktop into the mail server and run outlook from there:P
Yet in many states it is impossible to get a jury trial, only a hearing by an administrative hearing officer. You don't even get a real judge.
Ahhh, but that's because in many states (mine included) it's not a crime, it's a civil infraction So since it technically doesn't count as a crime, I think they can get by that rule that way...
I really don't understand the difference between a civil infraction and a "real" crime though either. I agree with you, it's a bunch of BS (but hey, traffic tickets are a large source of revenue...:P )
Clearly stated that provisions will be made for spam filters. Sorry, the legislature did its homework on this one.
I think you misinterpreted my comment. (and yes, I did RTFA:)
I wasn't saying that this legislature would make spam filters illegal, not at all. I was just pointing out the irony of your comment, that someone could send their mail to a gmail user and not realize that their mail is being scanned for content. All I was saying is that that particular argument isn't by itself unique to gmail, as there is plenty of "email scanning" that goes on now, without the knowledge or consent of the original sender.
id you not have a mother to teach you simple ethics. If your of superior intellect then you use that to help others, not hurt them.
I never said I have "superior intellect". All I said is that stupid people need to be held responsible for their stupid decisions. Then I generalized it a little more and said that everyone should be held responsible for their decisions and actions.
I prefer to help people by trying to encourage them to think for themselves, rather than depending on the government to do it for me.
That's why they do it - many people don't have enough hours in their day to completely and carefully evaluate everything they are sent in the mail, every offer made to them, and so on.
Then why are you accepting offers that you don't understand? If you don't understand it, how can you possibly need it?
The only argument that I've heard that makes any sense is if someone is against Gmail beacuse of this ad thing, so they dont sign up for the service, but then all their friends do so when they send email tot hem, their emails are scanned for content, even though they're not signed up with the service.
Hmm, messages scanned for content by the receiving mail server... nothing at all like these MailScanner and SpamAssassin packages that we have installed on our mailservers, that scan every piece of received mail for content.:)
(and we don't even tell the sender that we're "reading" their mail!)
Some people were just stupid... some mislead... but either way, it had to stop, because even though there was a mutual agreement, more times then not, people signed away their soul because of other dire situations.
Stupid people deserve to be held responsible for their stupid actions. What is it w/the thinking that nobody is responsible for what they do, because someone "tricked" them or whatever the fuck the reason is this week. If you don't know what you're getting into, ask someone that does. Even stupid people sometimes have smart friends. And if you're too fucking stupid to get along in society without royally fucking yourself over due to your own stupid decisions, then you deserve what you get.
Bottom line: people need to be held responsible for their own actions. The government should not be protecting us from our own stupidity. They're just hindering natural selection:)
When 70% of people use it for illegal stuff, then you can talk about banning it.
OR, you could examine the law that is making it illegal, and wonder if maybe it's time to change the law, since it doesn't seem to be in concert with "the will of the people" anymore...
When a large section of the population does something that's against the law, the solution is not to ban it, it's to update/change/revoke the law to more match the current climate.
But hey, banning something worked so well for marijuana, it will probably work just as well here, right?:)
Not quite that simple. In fact, when I emailed comcast last November regarding some other issues I was having w/port 80, they told me:
The only ports that may be actively blocked on the Comcast network are 67, 68, 137, 138, 139, 512, 520, and 1080 at this time. Any ports that are blocked will not be unblocked. Please also be advised that Comcast reserves the entitlement to block any ports on the network without prior notice. We thank you for understanding this security policy.
Could've changed since then, but I don't think so... otherwise I wouldn't be getting any email:) They may have different rules and policies for different markets/sections of the country though, so just because that's how it is for me doesn't neccessarily mean it's company-wide.

Alternatives to Cars?
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
I personally feel motorcycles should be banned from the highways because they're hard to see and 90% of the asshats I see riding them are riding recklessly. I can't even begin to tell you the number of times that jackasses on high powered motorcycles zoomed past me doing 120+ mph weaving in and out of traffic.
So just because the motorcycles that you notice are driven by a few irresponsible asshats (who will shortly end their annoying behaviour anyway when they collide with something), we should ban motorcycle riding for the rest of us responsible people, eh?
Yeah, sounds like a great idea. You might try riding a motorcycle for a little while, you might become a more attentive driver. I've become much more aware of motorcycles and even other traffic in general thanks to my motorcycle riding experience.
The defensive driving lessons that you learn riding a motorcycle carry over to a car too...
(Using your reasoning we should probably ban cars too, since I've seen quite a few asshats driving those around and weaving in and out of traffice at 120+mph:)
You don't think there's something wrong if you can't trust your police department to be fair anymore?
Well, yes.. there is something wrong. But that's just all the more reason to not let them search my house w/out a warrant. I'm willing to comply with the law, but the authorities need to do that as well. As such, they will need a warrant before they ever enter my house.

The new ones (SmartXX and Xenium) have their own Bios/OS... I don't think they're compatible w/the old BIOS's anymore. In addition, you want the Xecuter2 BIOS, not the EvoX one. Evox is a good dash, but Team Xecuter has the better BIOS (IMHO).
I think they have Xenium's too... And as the parent mentioned, you can get an LCD display for SMartXX or Xenium that will diplay song titles from ID3 tags and other nifty things too I'm sure (I don't know what else, but I'm sure someone will come up with some pointless but infinitely amusing use for the LCD:)
