C'mon guys !! use Kazaa Lite, not the full version!! At least give yourselves a chance. And the best place to get Kazaa Lite these days is... yep, Kazaa !!!
Apologies for the stupid question, but why does using Kazaalite (rather than Kazaa) stop you from being sued by the friendly chaps at the RIAA?
And even so, I don't believe Hubble should be obsolete then. It's still the 14 years tested platform for taking pictures; it can serve as a benchmark for new telescopes, and a fallback in case new telescopes aren't working the way they are planned.
Just because something is old, in no way makes it obsolete.. We still use virtually the same aircraft since the 1980's, the Boeing 737 and 747 have been obsoleted many times over by the 777 and other new aircraft, but the 737's and 747's are still in constant usage. Why? Expense and Risk Management. It's simply cheaper to use and maintain a working platform, than to build a new one and have it fail in some catastrophic way nobody could have planned for.
Ah, but the Boeing 737s are controlled by the private sector, which is very very good at continuing to use old resources, or finding a new use for them if they expire. (Take an example - the owner of a factory which manufactures steel rods goes bust. A new owner takes over, who manufacturers skateboard axles. A crap example, but you get my picture).
Hubble is controlled by the public sector, which is inherantly crap at finding new uses for old resources. You can justify a vastly larger budget by putting something completely new into space than you can by servicing something old.
America has a vastly better government than Cuba, a far better system than Cuba, a far better economy than Cuba. I'm not going to try and argue with that. And anyone who thinks that Bush is worse than Castro is an absolute idiot.
My point wasn't to defend Cuba, or attack America per se. I was just commenting that it's nice to see people stand up to America.
But you're right, if America is such a terrible place, like the socialists say, why does everyone want to live there?
I recently bought an HP Laser 4+ (~ 12 years old) for 50 ($85). It's fine for printing letters, reports, etc etc, and it's all I need. Who needs colour? When I want photos printed I send them off to Photobox.
...That Xerox tries to sue this guy to take down the information?
The Argentines are normally quite good at standing up to shitty US laws. Look at President Kirchner's friendship with Fidel; that annoyed the American government no end!
I recently bought a 12 year old HP Laserjet 4+. It's reliable, sharp and reasonably fast (they don't make em like they used to). I recently ran out of toner, and purchased a refilled one. What can I do with my empty one - is there somewhere I can send it to be refilled? (I'm in UK if that makes any difference).

Just a guess, but maybe the mail server would know the answer in advance because it used the answer to calculate the question? Couldn't the calculation to generate the question from the answer be orders of magnitude easier than the reverse?
Is it easier for a computer to square a number than root it? If not, perhaps some sort of prime number system would work.
I remember I once had a Compaq 386 luggable, with an orange LED screen. It was a 386-20 with 1MB RAM I believe. My Dad used it to learn QuickBASIC (not QBASIC), and then handed it down to me when we bought a 486 desktop.
In my time I've also owned a Compaq 8086 suitcase-size thing (can't remember the name but I bet you can still get hold of them, they would take a sledgehammer battering), and a Samsung 286 that was a proper laptop, albeit slightly larger than the ones you find these days. It probably weighed in the region of 25-30 lb, but I can't really remember.
Now listen to me, sonny. I work for the SIS, and I don't want you to ever repeat this story again. What happened was secret then, and is now. You may find your life getting a little more difficult if you tell anyone else, you see what I mean? Keep quiet.
I've ordered Taco to pull your post immediately. Remember, if you tell anyone else, we'll find you. I hear Belmarsh isn't too pleasant at this time of year.
DAMN, I meant to post that anonymously. Now identity as a top-level agent trying to infilitrate Slashdot has been revealed.

If you really believe that you are completely naive. Globalization makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. Why do you think the WTO is protested everywhere it goes?
Because lots of people believe that globalization makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.
It's a popular theory, but that doesn't make it a correct one.

Apparently he's not a regular /. reader
;-)
Which means he will be vastly more well-informed than most of the people here
inherantly
Does anyone mind if I point out my own spelling error?

Now, if only other broadband ISPs would start policing their user base ...

He lives in Utah though, doesn't he? Isn't that a 'shall-issue' state with regard to carry licenses?
This sounds like absolute bullshit to me. A quarter-ton of fossil fuels to create one PC? 1.5 tons of water? What do they put in them?
I may be wrong, but I think it's nothing more than the United Nations trying to justify its taxpayer-funded existence.
I don't like the message because it sounds like United Nations "we have nothing to do so we'll invent some work" bullshit.
That was my exact thought when I read the article.

I've heard that even raw fruit and vegetables can be damaging in the long run, and the best option is to stick with nothing but water and leaves.
Like Janet Jackson is just Michael dressed up as a girl?
Isn't Michael normally dressed up as a girl anyway?
I think he was being sarcastic.

Thats because in America, we have shoulders on our roads, instead of barely the width of 2 cars.
English roads are generally designed with steering-wheels in mind.
With three, count 'em, three home consoles out there
Err... NES, Megadrive and Atari Jaguar, plus a whole host of computers that were still common in the early 90s?
The Prince of Persia 1 protection with the potions was one of my favourites. The PoP 2 one was a little less original.
:-)
In both cases I copied my friend's diskettes and photocopied his manuals
Yes, but he has a 4-digit ID, surely that counts for something?

It's a university site and they still couldn't survive a slashdotting!

Posting an MPEG link direct to slashdot is the very definition of cruel
