    The problem is that the number vonage routes your call to may or may not be the correct point for 911 calls to be handled in your town, they don't know because they are relying on published numbers for emergency dispatch. The baby-bells won't share information on where to send 911 calls for given addresses.

    Actually it is ignorance of the law that can not be a defense. However ignorance of the harm you are doing would tend to suggest negligence.

    Why do you think the feds have been pressuring the states to make it a primary infraction ? The usual threats to withold federal road $$$ apply in states that don't.

    The RIAA does not represent artists ... the represent only the labels, so I'm not sure why they keep claiming they do. Not one artists organization has pointed this out though.

    In the USA we have walmart for that ... read the label on their own brank bottled water.

    Well I'm pretty sure such a settlement would not be approved ... the fee has to represent the work done. The courts scrutinize the billing to make sure that the fee claimed relates to the work done.

    I work in a law office that handles some class action claims ... and I can tell you that in the biggest case, work is still ongoing to make sure claims are paid and people receive what they're due some 5+ years after it was settled.

    I'm not sure what case we're talking about anyway ... the only Amex travel insutance case I've found so far is still ongoing. It would be extremely weird to see a case where the class members only got a total of $15,000 with a 4 million fee to the lawyers.

    There's a surprising amount of work that goes into processing class action claims, that is what the fee is for. It's not just collecting a fee and mailing a bunch of checks to class members.

    The best part is that that sony will charge the recall costs against the artists royalties so sony won't be out a penny and the artists get ripped off.

    Given that the only way to obtain such information is to break the law, you have to ask either the author is making it up or obtained the information improperly. Neither option lends much credibility to the information.
