  1. Outlook on Final Fantasy - Crystal Chronicles GC Details · · Score: 2, Interesting

It seems pretty good, but not great. I remember when I first heard the news that Square was developing for Nintendo again I was ecstatic, but I guess I was hoping more for remakes of the older games (my favorites) or dual-development of the mainstream games (FF XI, etc). The mutliplayers could be really interesting, though. I've always wanted a good multiplayer console RPG. And of course action is always fun. But I always played Square games for the story, and "this game doesn't have the story and dramatic sequences that a typical Final Fantasy might have." I don't really care about the lack of CGs, but the best part by far of the older FFs was the story (well, and the music). Still, the GBA connection could be very interesting as well, and since it's Square I'm sure the game will be good. What do you think?

  2. Addiction? on First-Person Account Of Video Game Addiction · · Score: 1

Is this sort of thing really an addiction? Sure, lots of people are really addicted to MMORPGs, but to me this author (and many others) doesn't sound addicted at all. The only effect it has on her life is that she has "missed quite a few parties, nights out with the girls, shopping, and some chores needed around the office and home because of Anarchy Online." So instead of hanging out with RL friends, she is hanging out with online friends. So if she's addicted to MMORPGs, then is everyone else addicted to real life? I'm sure that there are many people who lose far more time in their lives trying to be with their RL friends than MMORPG players who spend time with their friends. Friends online can be just as good as friends offline, so why is it bad to spend time with online ones? I've never played any MMORPGs, but I want to, mainly so I can make some friends.

  4. Neverwinter Nights on Making Games Live Longer With Mods · · Score: 1

This is why Neverwinter Nights seems like such a good idea. Instead of hacks, people make legit modules with tools they provide. And, of course, it's all based on D&D 3rd Edition, so the modules can fit in perfectly.

  5. Re:Cool. Finally, decent RPGs... on SquareSoft to Develop for Nintendo Again · · Score: 2, Informative

If I remember correctly, Chrono Trigger used the X button to bring up the menu and the Y menu to bring up the save screen. These could be easily changed to Start, or even L and R (which are as easy to press on the GBA as L and R on the SNES. The SNES did have the L and R buttons as well, but few games ever used them. In the GBA, they are in a good position, as well as having the threshold pushing (or whatever it is called).

  6. What does this mean for the future? on SquareSoft to Develop for Nintendo Again · · Score: 2, Insightful

I've been a dedicated Nintendo fan for a long time, after becoming hooked on their Square games - like Chrono Trigger and FF VI (III here in the US). When Square stopped developing for Nintendo, I was deeply saddened, and I've been waiting a long time for this moment.

But will this really be such a good thing? The N64 had almost no RPGs, and the Gamecube, while it seems to have some, doesn't have as many as it should. Even if Square starts developing for Nintendo, does this mean the GC will see more RPGs (the GBA, on the other hand, has plenty of good RPGs)? As well, maybe this is just my opinion, but the recent Square games have not been nearly as good as the older ones. Chrono Cross was far worse than Trigger, and the newer FFs seem to be more about graphics than storyline and good old fun, like the old ones. If Square does start making games for Nintendo, will they really be such good quality?

  7. Re:Chrono Cross? on History of SquareSoft · · Score: 1

I didn't like CC much either. But I think most of the reason for that was due to it being a sequel to Chrono Trigger. CT is even now one of the best games of all time, and after waiting years for a sequel a great amount of expectation is built up. It's not easy to make a sequel, especially not after wating so many years.

I didn't like the game itself that much either. I agree about the Chrono Cross being a bit hard to figure out, and the OSt wasn't great either. The plot itself was overly complicated, and it wasn't that great by then end (when you could actually understand it). There were too many characters to develeop strongly. THat said, it was an ok game.

  8. Keep your hopes up on Interplay Targeted By Bioware-fare · · Score: 1

According to Gamespot [gamespot.com] "Despite the announcement, the developer plans to release the Dungeons & Dragons game on schedule in early 2002." Still, I'm a bit worried. I think NWN has a huge potential, as it allows players to both play a fun MMORPG and allow the more hardcore players to create and play their own D&D adventure - like these [www.nwdl.net] people. I think a NWN Dragonlance will be great, so I really hope Bioware can finish it.

  9. Re:Why you can still get them on Nintendo Declares GCN Most Popular Console Ever · · Score: 3, Informative

Yes, Microsoft didn't start production of the X-Box until only a few months before the GC came out, so they had hundreds of thousands fewer consoles. This is one of the reasons Nintendo delayed the GC a few days, so that they would have many more consoles available.

All this being said, I still haven't been able to get my GC yet....

That would be a very good idea. It would make things much easier for many students who don't like computers at all to get started using RedHat, which might of course make them start to use it outside of school as well.

But what about doing somethign like this outside of this MS/school deal? It would be dumbing things down a little bit, but if Linux were easier to use it could gain lots more people.

  14. Re:Write Down Instructions on Tips for Teaching Seniors About the Internet? · · Score: 1

I agree. From my experience, memory has been the main problem. Most of my students (admittedly, only a few) could grasp some of the basic concepts rather easily, but forgot quickly. And since I only saw them once a week, each lesson would be similar to the one before it. So try to help them remember things by writing instructions down.
