Men constantly think about sex, so if he's thinking sexual thoughts about the person while she's on the phone, he could be in serious trouble. It has even worse implications if the man is a closet homosexual and/or sex fetishist. This is truly scary and ought to be banned if it ever takes off.

...never "dated" her. I never had a girlfriend because my friends always run away scared for some reason after I ask them out. But this one remained a close friend, which is unusual. She was incredibly influenced by astrology. She would blame bad rainy days on "her ruler being the sun." It was sad and terrible how she was influenced by this "science." However, they say it is wise to not talk about politics and religion, well, astrology is basically a religion and you don't want to talk about it with people.
Why does everyone give Wikipedia credibility? Doesn't the idea of an encyclopedia anyone can change raise suspicion? It is the most ridiculous idea on the planet! Why has it taken off so well? It really does not make sense why it is always within the first few search results in Google and Yahoo. It is rejected and considered "unscholarly" by the academic community.
I was involved with Wikipedia once. Besides the inaccuracies, the whole thing is backed by debating elitists. Many people's ideas and contributions are rejected by these elitists. Wikipedia is dangerous, Orwellian, and holds incredible power over our minds. It is so much worse than the old tale of the New York Times making up stories and correcting them a day later.
Stop debating the future of Wikipedia and debate instead its positions in the search results and its infiltration into academia.
When the Industrial Age came along, many changes had to be made to society to benefit the powers-that-be. Fake "laissez-faire," trusts, monopolies, compulsory education, child labor, etc. It took many years of unions, communism, and violence until many of these abuses were corrected, and many abuses continue to this day.
Now, as we transition into the Information Age, we are seeing more changes to benefit the powers-that-be. Copyrights and patents becoming property rights, DMCA, restrictions on technology that prevent Big Business from making money, infringements on privacy rights, etc.
The question is: What will it take to curb the abuses of the Information Age, and how many abuses will be allowed?
...trying to push Vista on people? It is incompatible with a lot of programs, and XP has been the standard for 6-7 years now. Will it make a difference if XP is purchased instead of Vista, considering the same/similar pricing? Why is Microsoft doing this?
Nothing new - this has been going on for quite some time. I remember when I was in high school (~10 yrs ago) there were "(school district)sucks.com" sites set up which included defaced pictures of the faculty. I know I used to get the teachers angry by playing "Word 97 Pinball." Others got in trouble for hacking the school's networks, or viewing online pornography.
Perhaps these problems mean it's time to get rid of the computers and concentrate on the three R's again?
Liberals constantly talk about how America is "McDonaldizing" the world. This patent may create an incentive for faster service at restaurants. Pretty soon, we'll be McDonaldizing the US!
I read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged a few years ago (never finished it due to disgust with its content). Right before I put down the book, I remember some sort of air-powered engine being proof that "anything was possible with capitalism." Anyone here more familiar with the book?
These decisions only affect Media version 3.11. Now, we have true freedom of speech and the press with the Internet, the New Media. Why should we really care about the biased, exploitative, trashy cesspool that is Old Media?
I have no experience with Macs, but I probably never will, since their prices are WAY too expensive. If Apple decided to lower their prices, Mac would kill Windows overnight. Apple has all the fame right now (iPod, etc). I'm a computer tech, and some of my clients have asked me about Mac, and what it is. Honestly, I don't think that "Linux for the 'average Joe'" will go anywhere.
...asking Philip Morris to do a study on the health effects of smoking.
Seriously, there is a major academic freedom crisis on campuses across the country. If you aren't a 100% Marxist, they laugh at you, ruin you, humiliate you, and censor your work. I've been there. I know.
Yes, there are plenty of sheepish conservatives. There are plenty of sheepish liberals, too. Remember the MTV sheep and "B.J." Clinton in the 1990s? I'm sure there are plenty of conservatives who feel that wars for spreading democracy are justified. Despite the fact the Bush and his cronies are the furthest thing from "conservative" since FDR.
Personally, I'm an anarcho-capitalist, meaning that I want to hold the government accountable by allowing multiple competing governments. I'm conservative in that I favor smaller government and traditional Judeo-Christian values, yet I am liberal in that I favor radical political change and allowing people to make their own decisions about their lives and their values. Am I a sheep, or am I open to new ideas? Or am I just my own person?
What is an attention "problem?" Perhaps that's just their personality?
ADD/ADHD is an invented disease designed by the government ("public") school system to control boys. It's that simple. If people can't pay attention, that's just how they are. If they are hyper, unless it becomes violent and/or psychotic, it is just how they are.
It's just like "acid reflux disease" and "child obesity." No one wants to take responsibility for themselves, their bodies, their eating habits, and their children. So they invent a disease for it and make themselves victims.
Different people have different personalities. No need to invent diseases and give kids unnecessary and potentially dangerous pills to shut them up.
I have been developing software for fun since I was younger.
I never develop *exclusively* for Windows (i.e. Visual Basic, Visual C++) anymore, given that Java and text-based apps with source code can run on more platforms.
It's simply a matter of market share: the more operating systems your program can run on, the better. Java and open-source text-based apps win hands-down in that department. The Microsoft "monopoly" is gone. (I never believed it was a true monopoly, more like a matter of personal preference and convenience, which changed with Mac OS X and easier Linux.) It's a cross-compatible world now, and Microsoft is becoming irrelevant unless they change their business model.
1. (99% of the time) No DRM 2. Better quality sound than lossy formats like MP3 3. Album art 4. Out of print, import, and rare CDs (which most of my CD purchases are) may become collector's items down the road 5. Convenient backup if you lose the ripped FLACs
Good. The sooner, the better. I can't wait to see the consumer-whores freak out over not being able to dodge sales tax at the expense of their local communities! Bring back local businesses. Make Net businesses compete on the same level as their brick-and-mortar counterparts. Internet retailers are more efficient and usually pay their employees more than local businesses. They require fewer employees and serve more customers. Internet retailers offer a far greater selection than Ma-and-Pa stores, which greater improves the lives of people than do Ma-and-Pa stores.
Here's one example. I hate most American music, especially modern American music. One of the few types of new music that I like is called melodic rock. Also called AOR, it's basically the modern equivalent of Survivor and FM. The genre is currently condensed to one Italian record label called Frontiers.
The only way to get these CDs, or even know of their existence, is through the Internet. These import CDs are generally more expensive ($15-$25) and are only available through online retailers and eBay.
I know nothing about anime (except a few Adult Swim shows I used to watch), but I'm sure American anime fans would feel the same way about ordering imports from Japan.
This is one example of how free trade, and less taxes, benefit people. Another more obvious one would be lower prices. I'm willing to bet that the reason we don't have gasoline-induced hyperinflation like in the 70s is due to technology and "cheap labor" (which is not really "cheap" because they have a lower cost of living there.)
When the government gets involved with anything, it always gets bad. Government can only do good when faced with a threat to its power (e.g. unions or Communism). These threats are irrelevant, so the government is back to doing whatever it feels like doing. And taxing the Internet is a perfect example of this.
How do you guarantee that the federal government wouldn't do harm to people? They already have, many times. Also, if the federal government does something bad, the entire country suffers, as opposed to a few states.
That is the main problem with Business Libertarianism.
If someone wants to go into IT, he or she goes into IT. If someone doesn't want to go into IT, he or she doesn't go into IT. If someone wants to raise a family instead of working,...
Why must there be an "effort" to "attract women" to IT when they already can decide for themselves? This isn't like one of those Muslim countries where everything is sexist and women have no rights. Anyone can go into any job they choose, regardless of gender.
I don't understand how they get the right to search businesses without a warrant. Is it just the threat of a lawsuit, or is there some law I don't know about which allows BSA audits to happen?

Lindor: Show me the evidence!
SafeNet: I'm afraid that's proprietary and confidential.
Lindor: If you don't show me the evidence, I'll demand it in court!
SafeNet: Uh oh, hold on, I'll get it...
RIAA: Don't do it, Boys!
SafeNet: But this is just one stupid lawsuit! If we don't show the evidence our whole sch..., I mean, "business model" will be over!
Lindor: Business model? What?
RIAA: Did SafeNet just say that? No, Ms. Lindor, they didn't. Hey, look over there!

9.x is better? Maybe I should give it another look, it's been awhile...
BTW I wasn't "trolling."
I've tried Opera several times. It barely works with any Web site.
This is just a lame attempt to make their terrible browser more popular.

Yeah, and it sounds like "Lucifer."
The key word is "exclusively." IANAL, but I'm sure that they can put humans on Mars, as long as the funds are not "exclusively" used for that purpose.

Just my two cents.
