Mostly secular yes, but there is a daily article on Christian Science in the editorial secion.

  6. Utility Tables on iWorkstations? · · Score: 1

I believe that i own the most ergonomic computer workstation there is. And its quite simple to make yourself. Two 6' utility tables next to each other. I can store so much crap on them, I never have to run to a bookshelf or somewhere else to get something i need.
And the best part about the tables are that they have no drawers to smack your knee agains, and provide excellent leg room for stretching and whatnot.

The first thing i thought when i saw these iWorkstations was "Whre do you put all your crap."
But, I do say this would be a perfect setup for the 80 year old women who think macs are cute and only use them for e-mail.

Anyone actually gone to this school and know why it did so well, or is this just a fluke

Totally agree. Microsoft is once again bullying everyone around by including a bunk version of Java. If Microsoft can get all pissy for people distributing old versions of ms-dos and windows 1.1, then SUN should be able to cry when M$ decides to put out old JAVA stuff.

I think the judge should have forced M$ to

    1. Stop bundling JAVA into the OS
    2. Bundle UPDATED version of JAVA

M$ is being a dick, and dicks have to come down sometime, don't they? (at least mine does)

  9. Re:Christian Science != Christianity on The Gospel According to Neo · · Score: 1

You must be a troll... Christian Science is completely different than Scientology, but Christian Science is Christian. They believe in the Christ. They believe in the virgin birth. They believe in the resurrection. They believe that Jesus was able to teach his followers to heal in the same manner that he healed and (in my limited understanding of CS) Christian Science is totally based on the teachings of Jesus. Mary Baker Eddy merely "discovered" this aspect of his teachings and called it Christian Science.

Also, there is no rule in Christian Science that you cannot seek medical assistance. Christian Scientists choose to rely on their faith instead.

Now look, it's totally okay if you think the article is stupid, but making personal attacks on the author is taking it a bit too far, irregardless of the humorous way you presented it.
I went to summer camp with the author when we were kids. I later attended the same college as him (and let me tell you, he kicks all sorts of ass at ultimate frisbee). He's no extremeist and he's no jerk and he's definitely not a dickhead. The author and I were never close, but I did know him well enough to know that your assumptions on his personality are bunk.

There is nothing either cultist or ritualistic about Christian Science practice. Perhaps an investigation into the faith would better help you understand why they call it a science -- and help you save face in the process...

Why can't we develop a codec which is "almost lossless" and works well at higher bitrates? Ogg and MP3 do okay at 320kbps, but the quality increase isn't 3 times a 128kbps mp3.
    ---

That's fine. But lossless compression is important for people that trade and distribute music. Having an *exact* copy is what we want and lossless compression schemes do that for us. In the trading circles that I'm a part of, mp3 and ogg are the product of the devil. :)

I worked for a company INAIR in St. Louis right after college. We did web-based aviation enterprise management. We were among the first to take advantage of Microsoft's ASP scripting language and were also a case study for Microsoft's SQL Server 7.0.
Anyway, very bad money management resulted in all of us working for a few months without pay and then the closing of the company. In the end we found out that for two months our 401K contributions hadn't been made even though they'd been taken out of our checks. They hadn't paid takes in a while either. We had to get a lawyer to force them into bankrupcy. All sorts of shadey stuff going on. I'm personally owed about $8,000 and I'm pretty sure I'll never see that money. Oh well... that was a little over a year ago now. Life goes on...
