NO ONE KNOWS what happens on that island.

Unless they saw that particular James Bond movie.

  2. Equal crimes on UK Gov't Asks: Is 10 Years In Jail the Answer To Online Pirates? · · Score: 2

How about a 10-year sentence for maintaining a spiteful monopoly stranglehold on distribution?

There are 'pirates' who believe they are entitled to receive something for nothing because they simply feel entitled, and I don't have sympathy for anyone like that. But many people copy intellectual property illegally that they would gladly pay a reasonable price for if there was simply some reasonable means for doing so, rather than dealing with obnoxious monopolies and inconvenient delivery channels and being forced to pay for garbage programming that they don't want. I like the fact that the BBC makes Doctor Who and I want to encourage them to continue doing so - why do they make that hard?

It's still unusual, though increasing less so, for newer versions of anything to be inferior to older ones. People who aren't thinking too carefully or too deeply will be fooled.

Is it still cash after it's defaced?

Probably, but the point is that it's no longer completely certain.

  8. Re:Yes, I agree on Why We Should Stop Hiding File-Name Extensions · · Score: 1

Saying "My" when the correct word is "Your" is the way adults talk to two-year-olds. It doesn't get much more condescending than that.

Plus, there may be valid reasons for having several places for different kinds of documents, and it doesn't get in the way of backups at all.

I also hate the way Windows assumes every MP3 file is music - I work as a transcriptionist and my MP3s are mostly spoken word.

  9. Re:This attitude pisses me off on Photo First: Light Captured As Both Particle and Wave · · Score: 1

That's the interesting part, but far too many times people will try to explain quantum 'spookiness' and end up just demonstrating special relativity.

  10. Re:Better movie on Spock and the Legacy of Star Trek · · Score: 2

False dichotomy. The original Star Trek did both, and both optimism and conflict were better.

  11. It's science! on Genetic Data Analysis Tools Reveal How US Pop Music Evolved · · Score: 1

There are obviously many limitations to the study and therefore to the conclusions that can be drawn, but it's very interesting to study music mathematically and discover (or confirm) patterns and experience new perspectives. This is how science makes progress.
