    These kinds of claims are always about laziness, and police not wanting to put in the effort their job requires, and not even caring if they do their jobs properly or not.

    Surveillance should happen *after* getting a warrant.

    A warrant is not an imposition, it is a rudimentary form of quality control, and a warrant is laughably easy to obtain. Not having enough evidence for a conviction (of the right party) is one thing, but not having enough to take to a judge for a warrant can only mean the case is embarrassingly weak, and they need to do some actual police work before continuing.

    If there is a more effective way of teaching those things that doesn't involve punishment, why not try it?

    And if there isn't?

    Every parent wants the best means of discipline, but the reality is that no-one has the answers, and not enough discipline is not an option.

    The catch is that it's a long-term investment, so you had better appreciate living in a big house, and not just enjoy the novelty for the first few months.

    People understood the usefulness of the concept when the first pallets were built nearly a century ago, but a pallet isn't helpful without lift trucks, cranes, etc. That's why adoption started slow and accelerated over time.

    I'm not convinced many actual scientists believe that the Chicxulub asteroid impact "was the sole cause of the extinction" - the best version I've heard is that the Deccan Traps eruptions had already put the ecosystem under stress.

    The degree to which each event contributed to the mass extinction remains a fascinating question.

    Smart scammers (but not these ones) would stop, as they are only wasting their own time calling someone they already know will not fall for their pitch.

    Although that seems obvious, quite a lot of legitimate businesses, charities, politicians, etc., have quite a bit of trouble understanding it.

  21. If they scam people for a living, I can't understand why they don't try harder. They 'Microsoft' people have to be the most transparent, obvious, and pathetic scams out there, which is saying a lot.

    On second thought, except for the part about trying to 'help' the user, they actually are believable as employees of Microsoft.

    Well, first-year calculus hadn't changed in 250 years, and second-year calculus hadn't changed in 100 years, so I'm guessing the updating isn't going to stop.

    You are confusing (perhaps on purpose) the two meanings of skeptic - those with good-faith skepticism, and those who claim to be skeptics but are liars.
