    It looks like Apple was extremely nice to them. Just had them change up the look to not COMPLETELY mimmic the iPod, change the name and make it clear that it was not their baby. They did not sue the pants off the buggers, nor try, so i think they handled it very well.

    You know how there are ways to punish absurd and wasteful lawsuits? Well, it would be helpful if there were massive fines for blatantly prior art and "Fork" patents, which covered the govt. litigation team +. Then the insane amount of useless patent apps would go down rather significantly.

    I would think that he would never make pixar stoop, but make apple reach. I believe i read a story about how pixar uses the best comps available. Why not make your other company the best available so you can, without any bitching from anyone else, have your other company buy your computers, as they are the best for that application.

    i think we have seen that with the Xserve G5s and such. The man is unquestionably smart.

    I feel like i am the only one who thinks of this but, what keeps the machines and the heating being fueled by hydrogen means? I mean, you are all just talking about STARTING the ethanol->hydrogen program, but what if that becomes *the* source. Then it will be wasted ethanol, right?

    If you don't start the program with some sacrifice, then it can never have other aspects of the production turned to a renewable source of power.

    And thus why MS sucks. Where is their true competition? Surprisingly, this whole OS situation is rather close to the RR situation which forced the anti-trust idea to arise.

    the way of Business that you are talking about does not further the cause of the culture or industry. it is incestuous and unproductive. They just steal good ideas and overlap the functionality over what they previously had. Where is the innovation? Where is the adaptation? It is not like several species working to survive, they are more like a cancer devouring a body, taking over systems and spreading influence.

    Why do a good job when you can do a standard job and get great benefits, stock options which mature quickly, great pay, and feeling secure until you decide you have had enough and cash out, as a wealthy person. (Can you tell i lived near MS for a while?)

    Really, don't complain. Living in Arkansas, the state where you drive around the block to be licensed, has scared the shit out of me. NO ONE knows what a turn signal is, what the right lane is NOT for and that exit ramps are for slowing down, not the exit lane (1 mile before the ramp).

    In a city of 50k there is 1 accident a day because of idiot drivers. 5 students a year get hit crossing the street by inattentive drivers around a college that has just 6k kids attending. These people are IDIOTS!

    in general, not just in driving, by the way.

    The difference is the overall expectation of the chosen audience. You CAN be detailed and lush with a book, in a movie it looks like being slow and overbearing.

    Really, can you truly judge these people for their vision of what was in the book? If you talked to two LOTR fans before the movies you would have heard several explanations of what they thought a single scene looked like.

    also, the foolish jumping on the bed scene is about as corny as some of the lines in the book. Things on the page sound less stupid than said. Same with some scenes. (good god, how much crying can you get in 15 minutes?!). ANYway. rant on...

    Denother was my most hated aspect of the film. The omission of the Palantir made his character make little or no sense.

    in the EVDVD of TTT, you see more of faramir and have his actions explained: Faramir is a flat character in the book, which i agree with. Having him grow, pass the test like all the other respectable characters in the movie was just showing the fault of all people and the power of the ring. A nice tough, i thought. also, the EVDVD shows good stuff with that whole family. not in the book, but very good.

    as many people have pointed out, he could not follow the book completely. bit a bit hard. That and it is HIS interpretation of the book, which i think he did rather well with, flaming flying Denother aside.

    erm... i think that there are also on-the-fly playlists on the iPod. and, even in firmware 1.3 there is a good multi-band EQ, tho not customizable on the spot.

    I think the difference is the geek factor. The Karma attempts to do too much for someone who simply wants to listen to music. The iPod is stylish (personal opinion, it is more so, by far, than the Karma) than the Karma and more simple to use.

    Living in Arkansas, there is a major problem with this whole post and, specifically, the last line. Arkansans are on the whole poorer than most. The parents have been raised with the idea that they are only going to get menial jobs (and most do) and that education is not a big thing. So, ed taxes are not very high on the list. in fact, Taxation is a dirty word down here. So, this overzealous stat sovereignty is killing the possibility of having good schools and an intelligent population.

    I was found hacking this pitiful little program "AtEase" for the macs. I used a little utility and got the admin password. I had no clue what i was doing was wrong. I Just saw at ease as a problem that needed to be fixed. So i did! well, word spread around and i got called into the office. What they did was sit me down, gave me a verbal reprimand, asked me to demonstrate, then asked me if i knew how to ensure that it would not happen again. Bam. School tech support. how odd that was. the next kid that did it (this was after they put a good computer policy up) got suspended for 5 days.

    I too have a 1st gen iPod and have had no problems. Ok, i did, but that was solved by the update that corrected the power drain problem. If you thought you had a great lifetime on you battery and then put on the equalizer, shuffle and sound check, then THAT is the reason your battery is lasting all of 2 hrs.

    quite simply, i think you must be doing something wrong if you are loosing you battery.

    But what they will do (most decidedly so, 'cause that is what they do...) is block out all other OSs. Sure, the BIOS needs an overhaul, but doing this is not helping anyone.

    Apple changed out their way of doing "BIOS" a few years ago with open firmware. Sure did not stop me from installing Yellow Dog Linux or (this was a bad move) BeOS once. Point being, why do they need to shut out other OSs in order to make it work? they don't. It is all about money and forced market share for the uninformed.

    Oh well. Who knows, maybe they will figure out how to get a security hole, root access via the "Firmware".

    Come now! You should know by now that that whole thing is for the mass audience that it is aiming for. The loud is still there in the Extended Eds, but there is much more lingering. Not to mention that he has gotten MUCH better from his first movies (check him out on imdb. QUITE a difference.) ANYway, that is what the editors/producers probably wanted. ho hum. off to do something.

    To tell the truth, mp3 is out the window for me. AAC tears mp3 apart. i have variable bit as most of my mp3s and 192 as my AAC and, with the avg. being 225 on my mp3s, AAC still beats mp3. AAC is a better compression format than MP3 and, with ims, the only time i have found problems is in widely varying dynamics of some classical recordings. Something that is nearly impossible in mp3 also (trust me, even at 320 there seems to be artifacts. it is just too much information needed) Not to mention that those are some large files!

    Just a question, and not a patronizing one. If iTunes was ported to Linux (a good idea to me) would you or the majority of diehard linux users bitch about it not being OS? even if keeping it secret means they keep their payment and song transfer protocols as secret as they need to keep from lawsuits?

    I've heard this 8 times too many. Ok, on iTunes, you can go to advanced> Check for purchased music... and you KNOW what it DOES?! It checks your account for what you downloaded and says, well, they payed for it, give it to them! And you download all the music you do not have on your computer that you have bought. And DAMN it if you cannot do what the hell you want with those files... i swear, apple has the best DRM this far. Enough to make the companies feel good about it while not inconveniencing the costumer (if 10 CDs of a playlist is too few for you, you are ABSOLUTELY doing something wrong.)
